It would be cool if they expanded on this... expansion... in the future. Unfortunately, that seems unlikely, and a lot of these cool concepts will be just left alone. There's a huge world of Starcraft lore and units they could pull from. It would not surprise me if they did a full-on Diablo expansion at some point (as they already did for BG and Mercenaries), but that would also potentially leave a lot of cards stranded.

Yes! I love this mini set's idea, I wish it was a full expansion, most of all because SC2 is turning 15 this year, so it would've been the perfect timing for it Hopefully if it does well we can get a bigger SC crossover in 2026 🙏

Totally agree, if you’re going to crossover it deserves a full expansion. Don’t charge extra for min-set that immediately gets stranded.

Currently the only class that fits the protoss game plan is Druid but these Priest, Mage and Rogue cards sure look fun as hell to play 😮 I really hope they work

If raynor works with Thor then it’s gonna be crazy, if you can just get like 3-4 launches suddenly Thor is doing up to 25 dmg possibly face

You know, as much as I'm not a fan of mixing Starcraft into Hearthstone, I do like some of these cards, and I do like Starcraft. It would be cool to see a Starcraft card game. Also, why don't these Zerg have rush? It's possible that these Starcraft cards will have their moment to shine when the new Hearthstone year comes and Festival of Legends, TITANS, and Showdown in the Badlands rotate out (as TITANS and Showdown in the Badlands have a lot of high power cards that show up in a lot of decks). It's possible that the first expansion of 2025 will have a lower power level, allowing some of the board-based Great Dark Beyond cards to see more use.

The Zerg don't have rush cause they made spawning pool, one of the neutral cards give all your Zerg rush on deathrattle.

@@chrismaples9392 I did forget about that card already lol. But it unfortunately doesn't seem very good because you have to wait 3 turns after playing it to give your Zerg rush (because it's a location with 2 durability).

I dont see 'not drawing enough protoss' to be a problem, as there are multiple cards that specifically give you protoss, either by generating them or by tutoring them. For rogue, I would almost say to exclude the high templar and just put the dark templar in. You tutor the dark templar and use it as a 'deadly shot' with a body attached to eliminate something, maybe after doing a board control to clear out the little guys, and then you play the second one to get your archon. Once you have an archon on board, you use any number of the 'shuffle copy into your deck' cards to get more of them, (which are discounted or course). Theres definitely an OTK deck in there where you fill your board with archons, and given the manacheat and tutoring, it shouldnt be all that hard to pull off.

Totally get what you're saying about being limited by the number of cards in the mini set that support a gameplan. It's gonna suck if you draw Artanis but your handful of protoss minions are at the bottom of your deck. The zerg curve when it works seems strong. Turn 1 Zergling, turn 2 Roach, turn 3 nydus worm, turn 4 roach * 2, zergling, evolution chamber is a strong opening but just reading that should be clear that when it doesn't work the individual cards don't hold up and there's not enough to guarantee it works. Terran cards have the problem of leaning into an already weak starship mechanic that needs too much specific stuff to happen in a specific order. Of the 3 protoss seems the most reliable because druid can get to the big stuff easily and the payoff is game winning in carrier but definitely see where you're coming from on this

Carrier is a huge swing turn for Protoss decks. They are getting decent discounts, and ramp Druid feels like they can abuse this the hardest. I'm already dreaming of the Trail Mix Turn 4 highroll.

Honestly, yamato cannon seems good outside of starships. Definitely cuttable, but 2 uses of removal, and it comes with a body both times. Control decks often need to find ways to spend their mana that dont use valuable cards or advance you to fatigue. And with the 1 mana, gain 2 armor burn card discounting it on the back half, it looks a lot better. You can play cannon, then draw into concussive shells. You can play shells first, then draw into the cannon.

Yeah, they will be tier 3 decks that see super marginal borderline meme amount of play, and honestly they don't even seem fun

i could see protoss rouge maybe working because they just have so much draw, reloading the hand with medium size things over and over could genuinely work. it just really comes down to, will all the aggro decks from the last 2 expansions be slowed down enough for a ton of medium sized boys to actually matter.

You know what, maybe the archon might get more consistent if Rouge uses Eudora’s Quest for the 4 cost spell that summons 1/1 copies of a minion though it has me question if it’ll work since the templars specify Play for the merge.

Mothership should have some upgrades like Discover instead of random or more discounts for Protoss minions. Since getting random 4 cards and 10/10 stat for 12 mana card is kind of weak nowadays and the big payoff is when you get 2 Templars which is not a certainty. The Hero is great though since it works both as a standalone card to play early and mana cheat for late game. Even some decks not focus on Protoss may add him for the 2 Charge minions and that Hero Power Edit: forget that Mothership can be an infinite value card since she can get herself. Yeah, I guess it is good as it is now

if solar comes back then you could solar the minus cost, but realistically i think in wild if you see hero power druid you can give so much attack with your charge nerd + hero power

Yeah I spend a bit of time in here discussing how Warrior might fit well with Arkanite Defense Crystal, but the other two classes might not lean defensive enough to make it a good fit.

I think the fall out of favor because of a super narrow focus is by design with this set. I don't think they want the cards that are outside the warcraft universe to become eternal staples, they also want to be able to make them strong for this specific set so people do actually use them while they're new, so if they didn't have the narrow focus they'd risk them becoming staples. Honestly wish mtg would make mechanics more parasitic with universes beyond so we'd only see those cards played in those specific decks.

To me it feels like the hearthstone devs didn't make a starcraft expansion because they had a bunch of cool ideas for starcraft building up over time and the Great Dark Beyond was the time where it was finally thematically appropriate. It feels like like upper management decided it was crossover time and the devs only kinda know stuff about starcraft, so a lot of the designs don't feel particularly inspired to me. I see a few outlier cards, but for the most part it seems like the devs tried to hard gear shift with card design in GDB with slower wincons in starships. Unfortunately when previous expansions are still in the game, it just ends up being disappointing. Hey its me Kibler on my alt. No but seriously did they forget about starships when they made Bob?

While this particular set won't, I hope they consider it going forwards. Abathur, Evolution Master - Dehaka, Primal Packleader, etc. I know for Dehaka I'd want him to Adapt a lot; maybe after he kills an enemy minion, representing the Primal Zerg growing stronger after each fight and kill.

Doesn't matter that much. All protoss cards are slow as hell, so it will be mostly used as rush minion with a possibility to push lethal

i like the brood queen because zerg is suppoed to be ether the most aggressive character in sc2 or the most sustain oriented character (also i feel like the brood queen should have lifesteal WHY DOESNT IT HAVE LIFESTEAL IT LITRLY CAN HEAL IN SC2 and is ONE OF THS 3 PRIME DERECTIVES! but if it had that then i feel like card better but the value if they add more value will make a zerg control deck better which if they do IM A HUGE FAN OF

I was kinda excited for this mini set, and was even saving up my gold, but honestly this all looks bad. I think my problem with it is that, even though it's a crossover, none of these archetypes feel unique. The swarm starship stuff is the main exception, but it looks very weak.

This whole Starcraft miniset just feels like a flop to me. Even if some of the cards turn out to be good, the three different tribes are very unintuitive and poorly communicated on the cards themselves. Maybe it makes more sense if you're already a Starcraft fan, just like the Alliance vs Hoard cards make sense if you play WoW, but for the rest of us HS players it's confusing. It seems like an easy miniset to pass on, except that you know they're going to start giving us quests that require us to play these specific cards, so you might be better off coughing up the 2k gold anyway. That's a big feels-bad imo.
