Tetralogy of Fallot nursing NCLEX review lecture on congenital heart disease defects in pedicatrics/children.
Tetralogy of Fallot is a congenital heart defect that is characterized by FOUR structural defects.
The structural defects of tetralogy of fallot include: right ventricular hypertrophy, aorta displacement, pulmonic stenosis, and ventricular septal defect (VSD)
Signs and symptoms of Tetralogy of Fallot include: activity intolerance, tet spells (cyanosis), shortness of breath, increase respiratory rate, fatigue and faints easily, failure to thrive (small for age, not meeting developmental milestone, weight loss), trouble feeding, cardiac murmur (harsh systolic murmur and systolic thrill)
Nursing care: treating tet spells, which includes placing the patient in a knee-to-chest position WHY? This increase systemic vascular resistance and helps decrease the right to left shunting in the heart.

Your channel is amazing. You have literally taught me more than my nursing instructors have. They read from a power point and expect us to go home and teach ourselves. I come home and watch your videos, thank God for you! I think it is amazing that your channel is free. Nursing students are usually broke (like me). It helps so much to have somewhere to come that is not hundreds/thousands of dollars to get an education. THANK YOU!!!

I am a twin and I was born with this defect. My twin brother was perfectly fine. Back In 1985, my initial repair till I grew bigger was at three weeks old with the full open heart surgery at 18 months. I was taken care of at Mass General and Children’s Hospital in Boston. I’m now about to turn 35. Very grateful for the possibility of this surgery .❤️

Sarah, you don't know how much your lectures have helped hundreds and thousands of nursing students pass their exams but more importantly under the materials that we are supposed to know to become successful and capable nurses. Unfortunately, nursing professors cannot teach even half as well as you. If there were alot more teachers and nurses like you, students and nurses would be a lot more confident and successful. Thank you!!

My daughter (Marlie) has this heart condition. She had two open heart surgeries, one @ 9 days old and the 2nd one was a month before the pandemic hit. She is doing so well right now and is so full of life! Before I gave birth, I was bombarded with medical terms that I knew nothing about. Between both surgeries, I learned fast. I’m just so dang grateful that Marlie has a chance at life. Hospital stays have been traumatizing for my little girl. Not sure how to get through all of that, but I’m sure we will one day. I’m not in the medical field, but the one person I am most thankful for is the surgeon that performed both of the surgeries on Marlie’s tiny little heart. We almost lost her, but she is still here and that’s what matters most. I appreciate videos like this. You are never too old to learn about the human heart.

It's been 21 years since our ToF baby had OHS and I've not entirely understood the anomaly until now. Thank you! BTW: She had a complete repair at 6 weeks without enduring a Tet Spell. Her pulmonary valve was replaced at 14 yrs old. She went on to race cross county mountain bikes all four years of high school.

Maria Tikader i believe that light weight bearing exercises would be best along with a heart healthy diet. Your daughter might experience cyanosis or shortness of breath so it would be best if she did light bearing exercises with reasonable rest periods in between sets.
