YOUR ENDOCRINE VIDEOS ARE SOO AMAZING AND HELPFUL!!! Short story: I didn't have enough time to study for my medsurg 2 HESI exam two months ago (which made me panic a little bit because it was a BIG portion of our final grade for the class). I didn't read any review books, or previous notes from my lectures, or class powerpoints from my professors, as I felt they were not as helpful and as thorough as I need them to be in order to study/review. With that being said, I was totally shocked when my screen said I got a 96/97% on my hesi. Considering I didn't do any special or comprehensive review besides watch your GI and endocrine series, that score was extremely surprising for me.I'd say I wouldn't have gotten that without your videos, so thank you so much! Just like what the other person commented below, I probably learned more and understood more from your 15-20-minute videos than I did from 3 hour-long lectures of my professor. Again, thank you!
@RegisteredNurseRN7 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is so very awesome! Thanks for this comment. That is an amazing score to receive on HESI. It sounds like you absolutely aced it! I'm so glad my videos helped you prep. Thank you for watching them and for taking the time to come back and let me know they helped you. I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for spending time to make these videos, provide quizzes and post all your lecture notes. I have purchased more resource books than the books actually required for class because of the difficulty to break them down. With your videos, I love that I'm able to stop and go back if i missed something or didn't quite understand it the first time. You can't do that in a classroom and your peers get annoyed when you ask questions. All your notes and videos are in great detail and really help me understand the processes. I have hyperthyroidism and it causes hunger but never weightloss for me. My endocrinologist said that the thyroid is only responsible for about 5% of weight increase/decreases... so when I gained 40lbs he thought I was going hypo but I still remained hyper lol. I will say it does affect how I metabolize food. Frequent bowel movements 3-4 a day. Also when it's out of whack and my t3 is high, I experience anxiety, panic attacks, hot flashes, GI issues (vomiting and diarrhea), heart pain (use to be palpitations), thinning coarse hair, excessive thirst, insomnia, mood swings, I also get dizzy. Anyways, I say this not for TMI but to let anyone else know if you are experiencing these symptoms to ask for all 3 tests and get them done every few months until you have some data. I went undiagnosed for 9 months I thought I was going crazy until finally one of the tests showed up below "standard". Everyone is different. Thank you for educating people through your channel. I will try to avoid some of the foods mentioned and see if that helps my current symptoms. One thing I have noticed is a common trait among other suffers is iron and vitamin d deficiency. Not sure how that plays a role but I have to supplement those.
@nvmffs8 жыл бұрын
Well, your endocrinologist is wrong. I have hyperthyroidism too and before I found out about it I'd been eating more than 10 000 calories a day. Insane amount of food, yet I kept on losing weight. There's nothing stronger than the thyroid when it comes to metabolic rate regulation. In your case I can see why you gained 40lbs. Since you visit an endocrinologist, naturally you've probably started madications too which means you have your thyroid under control. Once T3+T4 have been tamed you can gain as much weight as any other person.
@MissaLifeStyle8 жыл бұрын
nvmffs everyone is different. I was not on medication nor had I ever been when I gained 40lbs. I've been seeing him 5 years and because my labs are up and down he didn't give me anything until earlier this year after the weight gain. My overall tsh was still low but because my t3 dipped he thought I was going hypo finally and gave me medication which exacerbated my symptoms. What you may experience can be different from someone else. Just look at other comments. It seems to affect ppl different. Good luck.
@nvmffs8 жыл бұрын
Missa McFadden Would what you attribute this difference to then? It just makes no sense. Thyroid hormones act the same in any human being. The only possible explanation is that you and other people in this comment section have been misdiagnosed. Either this or your hyperfunction is really mild/inconsistent (since you mentioned your labs were up and down)
@MissaLifeStyle8 жыл бұрын
I've definitely not been misdiagnosed lol. For me specifically it's complex. I have thyroid antibodies and then they disappear. I have low iodine uptake which indicates inflammation and/or thyroiditis. I also have multiple nodules that vary in the amount of thyroid hormone they produce but can fluctuate from abnormal to normal. I experience mostly hyperthyroid symptoms but also hypo. However, again I've always ranged on the hyper side. I would be careful not to pigeonhole anyone person or disease.
@nvmffs8 жыл бұрын
Missa McFadden I see. I'm not the type to pigeonhole. I just didn't have enough information about your case. Now it all makes sense. I was right to presume your hormone production was inconsistent. That's the only way to experience hypothyroid symptoms too. Anyways, I hope you get better soon. Life with untreated thyroiditis can be really stressful. I don't know about you but the thing that annoys me the most about this disease isn't any of the countless physiological discomforts it causes. It's that it made my memory really fuzzy. I couldn't remember anything with details. Felt like life was just passing me by at lightning speed and I was unable to enjoy a moment anymore.

I gained too. Really take a good look at your diet. With how fast I process food; sugar, wheat and dairy seem to make me gain weight like crazy. Also, stay active. I went from going to the gym 5-6 days a week to a few times here and there. Which also contributed to a 40lbs increase in 4 months even though I'm technically hyperthyroid.

what about in a case of low tsh but t3 and t4 are normal? I'm actually going through this now. I feel awful at times and they won't put me on medicine because my t3 and t4 are fine. I have no tumors, no nodules, nothing. I've heard in these cases it's just subclinical hyperthyroidism and that it may event turn to full blown hyperthyroidism but confused cause I don't know why my body is acting crazy.
@RegisteredNurseRN8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video :) I'm not totally sure, but the thyroid can be a pesky little gland sometimes. I would keep an eye on it and have your doctors keep monitoring it. If you start having significant signs and symptoms I would bring it to their attention. I hope they can figure it out :)
@MissaLifeStyle8 жыл бұрын
TSH is the best indicator overall. Follow up with a good Endocrinologist who listens and explain all of your symptoms to him. My primary didn't understand so it's important to go to a specialist. Also, researching diets for thyroidistis can help. Good luck! I've had it for 5 years and it took a very long time, 9 docs, and even switching clinics to figure out that I had it.
@missb19828 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thanks for responding!,I went to the endo and my tsh has dropped even lower but now my t3 and t4 have dropped which is a rare case. So my tsh indicates hyper, but my t levels indicate hypo. So my endo put me on levothyroxine and I started feeling soo bad I quit taking it. I go back next week, hopefully they figure it out, I'm so depressed and my hormones are really out of whack.

missb19822010 I got your message but don't see it here. My tsh is low and my t3 dropped low as well... they put me on liothyronine thinking I was going hypo and I felt great until it started to exacerbate my problems and my t3 went high again. Just know that you are not alone and you will figure this out. It is scary but you are strong and will get through it. Educate yourself and your family. Document it all and keep a journal. This will help. Hyperthyroidism seems like it is harder to treat because our levels can bounce around. I am off all meds now and feel better but still dealing with symptoms. So addressing my depression I know I need talk therapy, exercise, vitamin d and iron (my levels are low), a good diet and a support system that understands.

Maintain good levels of vitamin D since your T3 and T4 levels are normal. Vitamin D really improves the TSH levels.

I have episodes of extreme anxiety, dizziness, sweating and increased heart rate if I eat a meal in the afternoon. It never happens after I eat breakfast or after dinner. Only in the afternoon. Are these symptoms explainable?
