Being a PCT at a Hospital is great especially if you want to become a nurse. I started off as a PCT at my hospital and they helped me pay for my bachelors degree. Now I am a nurse working at the same hospital.

Do you have to work for that hospital for a certain amount of time once they cover your tuition?

No I didn’t have to sign anything. Once you work at my hospital for a least a year then you qualify .

If you've been a CNA for more than a year you should try agency work. You'll make double or triple what you'd usually make.

What is agency work, please? I'm interested in becoming a CNA, but I've not heard of this.

From what I've personally observed here in So. California, LVN and RN salaries have gone up significantly in the past couple of years while CNA salaries have only increased slightly. I have great respect for CNAs, aside from it being a physically demanding job, the mistreatment they often endure from patients and even some nurses can be overwhelming. Whatever they're paid it should be more.

Certified Nursing Assistant work is to do personal care for the patients and it is not easy,people must respect CNA'S, it is my opinion that Certified Nursing Assistant should be given bonus money of $60,000 for their hard work, if I was a millionaire I will give it to them.May God bless them and give them strength to do such a great work. I'm a PCT now in the Denver, CO area. I started at my hospital with basically no experience at $15/hr with a $2 differential on the weekends. They raised our base rate in September to $17.50, so that's what I make now but $19.50 on the weekends. However, I'm in a nursing program now and while the pay isn't totally amazing, the experience I'm getting is amazing. We do get crisis pay at our hospital that started during COVID, and we made about $30-$40/hr with those crisis shifts.

I actually make $18 per hr in my job. And recently some of my coworkers moved to a Nursing home 30 minutes away( out of traffic peak hrs). They are making $29 per hour. I was tempted to leave too. But my actual job is more convenient for me. 5 minutes away home. Near my son's school Near my schoo (full time student) They are accesible with my schedule, etc... Otherwise I will be making $29 too. Not bad LOL. By the way I live in the Bay area, California

Am just starting as a Patient Care Tech with no prior experience or certifications in a hospital in Michigan and I accepted their $15.09/hr rate not including night differential of about $2. Not bad too me and I reckon some people can negotiate higher. Thanks for the insights!

I had about the same offer for an entry level medical position but I took out loans to learn my skills so I had to turn it down, though it would've been cool, they also said I would never really know when I'd be scheduled and when I would go home, and as much as I am passionate about Healthcare, I do not need more anxiety than I already have

I'm a retired army veteran with a master's degree in education. I left teaching and now considering switching to CNA. I don't care about the money.

I made $20+ being PRN CNA at the hospital. Agency and PRN work/contract work is where money is at.

In Florida I was making $11/hr as a CNA with 2+ years of experience, before becoming an RN.

As a HCT in a hospital I make 16.88/hr before taxes. That’s around $36,000 a year. It’s rough but for experience

Lemme guess.. OSU? They’re the only place I know that calls techs PCAs. I’m getting $40/hr right now for picking up a shift, about $25 for my regular shifts on weekend nights.
