I am currently 65 years old and was diagnosed in 1984. I have lived a pretty normal, just retired!! Just wanted to tell anyone that with proper care you can get through this. I never told my co-workers or my employer, made that mistake once and was "laid off six weeks latter". I than worked my next job for 25 years!!!

I didn't know that I have MG since last year (when the pandemic started). I can't take shower/toilet, can't even comb my hair. I fell on the road few times when I'm on my way to work. Also fell in the toilet several times. I feel so weak, can't eat/talk/swallow & can't do any expression on my face. losing so much weight, from 52KG down to 40KG. It took more than a year before the doctor can confirm that I'm having this disease. I try my level best to be strong & sometimes I feel so down, hating myself & cry. Cuz I didn't expect this will happen to me at the age of 31. But the current meds that the doctor gave me, is helpful (I'm on medication now). It might not last long, but I can walk now, but still can't run.

I remember watching this video a few years ago when I was in nursing school. I didn't like neurology so I had a hard time to understand this topic. The name "myastenia gravis" sounds really cool to me, and I keep remember that in my mind. Long story short, I recently got diagnosed with general MG. I didn't finished nursing school because I had a hard time during the last year. Looking back I think that's when I started having MG symptoms but never realized it untill 4-5 years later.

I remember when I was in college. Our professors would normally ask us to report. Instead of understanding the lesson well, we tend to get bored and not understand the lesson well. When I enrolled in the review center, the reviewers were able to simplify things. Thanks for simplifying the topics. You are a genius. I am planning to take the NCLEX and I will watch all your videos. I will recommend this to my colleagues as well.

I believe I have this, is how I found your video. I do not have the best health insurance down here in Florida. So I can not pick and choose what doctor I want to see. I’ve been complaining about my issues for years. It started with my eyes. I ended up with prisms glasses. Have double vision. I had to have upper eye lid surgery because my eye lids made me unable to open my eyes hardly at all. My arms and legs hurt so bad. I can not hold my arms up. Even the simple task of folding towels has become very painful and exhausting. My voice has deepened. Chewing food hurts my jaws as much as it’s exhausting. I have zero energy. In order to go anywhere at all, I have to take a nap prior. Then when I return home I’m completely exhausted. Peeing has become an issue for me. With all of these issues. Yet no doctor has ever tested me for anything. I have high pressure hydrocephalus and a vp shunt. So every issue must be related to that they say. They put on blinders and refuse to see anything else. I have recently started seeing a new neurologist. She really isn’t listening or asking me any questions. She gave me a brief test and wanted me to close my eyes. I was almost in tears and was afraid I would fall. I can not close my eyes and stand for more then a couple seconds. I waited four months to see her. She is performing a nerve test on me January 4. I am unsure why or what she’s trying to accomplish. I’m not nurse. But your video made me feel I finally may know what’s going on with me. Now how to get a doctor to test me for this? Sorry this was so long. But thank you for allowing me to get it all out.

I really appreciate these videos as a nursing student. For those that wonder 'why can't nursing school be like this', there are several reasons. The first is the accreditation requirements. My understanding is that these are quite strict for nursing schools and, as with all strict regulations on educational programs, it can lead to teaching to requirements, which in turn can hamper a teacher's creativity. There is also a high emphasis on 'pass rates'. Thus, schools are likely to enforce the 'tried and true' curriculum that has maintained their NCLEX pass rate at a certain percentage as opposed to letting teachers improvise. As much as nurse educators say 'we don't teach to the test', the fact is that nursing schools do teach to a test because if they didn't get high NCLEX pass rates, no one would attend the school and nursing schools, like most other schools in the US, are ultimately a business. Lastly, there's the factor on instructors. To be honest, my nursing instructors have mostly been great. However, many of them are asked to double as clinical instructors, which in turn means they need to work clinical hours to maintain their nursing skills and certifications. This can stretch teachers pretty thin when you are teaching 2-3 days per week, working another 2 days in the hospital and then having to balance your remaining time against lesson preparation and grading and having an actual life. As an older student, I've had the benefit of being more candid and straightforward with my professors and I've seen how much work they need to put in just to maintain their certifications and do the basics of teaching, preparing lessons and grading. It's a ton of time and their pay, while not bad, isn't exactly stellar either (I'd make about the same amount of money as a new Crit Care nurse in most hospitals). Just a few thoughts since I see several people complaining about nursing schools. These are the realities that I've seen in my time in school. Personally, I think the best solution would be a shift away from classrooms towards clinicals. In other words, more clinical time, less classroom time. I think this would be the most beneficial. Students would be evaluated on their ability to actually apply skills and knowledge on real patients. This would enhance the training of skilled, safe nurses. It would also be easier (in my opinion) for students. Most of us learn best by doing and seeing and clinicals are just that. For example, I was struggling with sickle-cell and so my Pedi clinical instructor placed me with a patient who was recovering from sickle-cell crisis. It really enhanced my learning and understanding of the disease process, treatments and nursing interventions in a way that no class or video ever could (because I was actually seeing and participating).

Thank You! My older brother just got the bad news of having this. The Doctors said his blood is pretty clean. To be honest, I know his life and mine will never be the same. He has all these signs. We have a lot of Dr. Quacks "Doctors" out there in the system. misdiagnosed by hospital one and the doctor number one... Quack... I would never remove thymomas .Doesn't help! MG is something I tried to learn about so many times (it has never been in my scope of practice tho) and I always failed - because every time I encountered that condition, I thought "ah, MG again, I looked this up so many times, what was it all about again?!". Thank you for posting! I'm no doctor but was able to follow this and felt enlightened. Our son is 7 and has special needs. He's often tired, has memory and brain fog issues. General muscle weakness in gross and fine motor skills. MG is not hereditary, but could someone with MG impact a developing child through milk or while in the womb? I feel after our new findinng we should go back to the pediatric neurologist with these new findings from his mom.
