Sharing a little story and vent with everyone: Did you know that you MAY qualify for a little chunk of money if you are 65 (or over? I don't know...) BUT if your Japanese is as limited as mine, it's not as easy a process as I hoped it would be. There are a lot of documents to fill out and you need to register with Hello Work, even if you are not planning to use Hello Work to help find you a good job.
My experience with Hello Work is limited, but it is kind of reassuring to know that I can use them to help me find employment in the future. My experience and time spent there made me feel so grateful for the career I have had in teaching. It was a bit depressing to see so many people desperate to get a job or find some way to find a better job. I successfully got everything done and the lump sum payment has already been deposited, but it was quite challenging going through all the steps to get this done. Hopefully your experience will go a little bit more smoothly than mine! My advice is to take plenty of patience with you!
Thank you for watching!

Hope you enjoy your present teaching job +Golden Age Plans. Your information will be very useful for foreigners ( even Japanese) when they reach the retirement. I am sorry to hear about your bad treatment. The civil servants are bureaucratic. They should have apologized to you. Thanks for sharing your experience. Looking forward to watching your channel, Kim-sensei!

Thank you so much, Alice! I hope my experiences can be helpful down the road. In the grand scheme of things, I can understand how the people who have to do that sort of work deal with so many different kinds of people and situations so I'm sure it's challenging to be nice all the time!

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you. please remember that this kind of process that you have to do is very complicated for native speakers as well. my mom just went through a whole bunch of stuff when she turned 75, she was so upset about it because nothing is simple, confusing, and she had to visit multiple counters to do one thing. I'm just happy to hear that you took care of important stuff on that day. I admire some advanced stuff in Japan but dealing with literal "paper work" stuff is pretty stressful.

Thank you, Kazuki. I totally understand your mom's frustrations. It is hard to navigate all the different counters, especially when they don't really make it clear which ones you need to go to and in what order! I also think that because it was April/May, many of the workers may have been new so some were extra-friendly while others could have been dealing with the stress of a new job. Luckily, the good points outweighed the bad ones. I'm sure the process will get easier as the years go by and less challenging methods take over!

you need to realize you live in a totally different generation; this is not a world of lollipops and candy canes, welcome to the real world where the younger generation is wanting seniors to be invisible and for these younger folks who work in these public service jobs serving the public - they are miserable and just need a job for income or they are middle aged folks who need a job- these jobs are no picnic - they are awful! Anyway, the younger generation today just doesn't give a damn about how they speak to seniors or anyone for that matter. Get used to it, because this younger generation is the worst ever; it's a rough tough life out here - this nasty negative treatment is all over the globe, it sucks!

Thank you for your comments. Everything you've said is the harsh reality whether we like it or not. You've pointed out some very important issues! I think you hit the target spot on about how people are just trying to survive and make a living even if it means doing a job they are miserable with. And you're right~ it's happening all over the world! It does indeed suck and it's scary, too.
