Regrading a BRUTAL yard Choked with Weeds 4k

This yard had NO grass- ALL weeds. We work everything back into the soil with a total regrade & new contours. Nothing hauled out or In. We turn the weed hole into a yard ready for grass seed or sod.

On my second home, I sprayed Roundup and let it sit there for 30 days. Rented a Rototiller & laid down sod. Didn't see a weed for over three years. I learn my lesson from the first house.

What, would you recommend, to this Job, if you did NOT use Sod...…. but Seed , Straw … 1) Round up, Kill every weed, and hopefully seeds wait some time, than terrace like he did … or 2) Use a Pre-Emergent Weed Spray of sorts .. Crab Grass, seems to come quickly

I remember this job you finished it 2 years ago just as winter shut you down. 2017 winter. Now some Kentucky Blue grass seed and some Straw and he will have the yard his neighbor's will envy.

Interesting video Dirt Monkey... That lawn was a "yard sale!" The finished product with the fact that you did not remove or bring in any materials on that job was unbelievable! That harley rake/bucket implement is off the chain! That man has a chore ahead of him to seed and properly water it in that large area w/out an irrigation system. You gave him a great starting point! I worked in surface mining and excavation for years and watching these transformations never get old. The satisfaction of setting back and looking at the finished product is priceless. Also l would have hydroseeded all that. Nice work guys keep up the good work.

I imagine a lot of weeds have sprouted since all the existing weeds were worked into the soil. If I was the homeowner, I would've sprayed the life out of that backyard in anticipation of laying down new seed. Maybe that was done though. It would be interesting to see the yard today.

@@delt19 The problem with spraying (what no one tells you) is that glyphosate kills all bacteria in the soil at a 1/50th of the plant killing concentration. Plants can get nitrogen a few ways: 1) through air... (very slow), through fertilizer that is ammonia / nitrogen-based (very fast, but short bursts), 3) through bacteria and fungus - the bacteria and fungus eat the sugar / carbs produced by the plant and offer poop.... nitrogen in exchange. Best way to kill weeds is to till them. Wait 2 weeks and till them again. Unfortunately it's not practical I agree.

@@lifeisgood070 Interesting information. I did not know that about glyphosate. I've personally never used roundup to kill weeds and more than likely will never use it. I do use a mixture of tenacity with a surfactant for weed control and plan on applying it to my backyard to get it ready for regrade and seeding job.

Hey! Watching this from Sweden. I do similar types of work in Sweden. I use an excavator, a cat M317F with factory mounted Rotor Tilt. That gives me the ability to attach a lot of diferente buckets and other equipment. Keep up the good work.

I do a lot of small jobs in my neighborhood when the home owner is usually in the way with his shovel and rake. I got tired of always having to look back to make sure no-one is there and there is reall no good place to put a mirror on a skid steer so I installed a backup camera on the drops and put the monitor in the top left hand corner of the ropes right behind a light so it is out of the way. Now a quick glance up and I know the way is clear.

No hate the dirt work was top notch but after finishing up a similar job on my own lawn I can say with certainty that no matter how much grass seed the homeowner puts down working those weeds into the ground instead of spraying them and removing them from the property they will no doubt be back within a few months

Been my experience if you don't kill off the weeds before working them into the soil, you will have yourself a nice crop when all those weed seeds germinate and the roots re-establish themselves.

Man you do good work. Wish you were around NJ. My yard looks just like that and it’s taking me forever to fix it. Moved in a few years ago and had a tree company remove all the dead trees and bushes in the back half of my yard which looks like the previous owners never even cut or trimmed once in 40 years but I didn’t realize how many roots, vines, rocks and crap were still back there on top of what looks like a construction company dumped concrete, clay and metal pipes and cement. I’ve managed to do a lot by hand but I feel like I can never keep up with how fast the vegetation grows. That bobcat and bucket look like it would have solved years of manual labor I’ve been trying to do. Love the videos and the love you put into what you do.

Spread some seed out, some starter fert, and get some sprinklers on timers, 7 days later spray out a half bottle of tenacity. Keep the watering up, in a month do the other half bottle of tenacity and you’ll have a nice lawn in 60 days.

We’ve had the same problems with the cat quick release. Found that greasing them everyday wether we thought they needed it or not helped tremendously. Also spray some liquid wrench or WD40 on the springs everyday.

Time for a new set of quick connects and a drain of the hydraulic system and a new hydraulic filter. Then ask your crew to wipe the connectors before connecting a new attachment, it will save putting dust and dirt in your system. Nice work you did on getting a perfect slope

I would quickly seed with grass seed and if possible get a truckload of compost to use as a thin seed cover which will amend the soil. You can get ahead of weeds growing and once the grass starts growing keep it mowed so that the grass can starve out any weeds that re-emerge.

Yup the pins on the bucket release is 100% a cat problem, we have 2 fairly new 289d3's at work and both of them have at least one of the pins sticking, no amount of greasing ever helps.

That’s the case drain fitting, you can unthread it from the valve body on the boom. Clean it or get a new one.
