I have gotten to know the truth since I started following what went on 4th June 1979. I wrote something about some few people who have been interviewed and they behaving like saints. Andy thanks for the interview. Whatever went on has been good and bad, because there wouldn't be an uprising without bloodshed. Some top officials (colleagues) interviewed really spoke with hatred. We are still suffering since our structures are weak but I still believe Ghana will be Great ONE-DAY. THANKS ANDY D TV. I KNOW YOU HAVE ALSO GOTTEN TO KNOW WHAT WENT ON. He claims the Generals overthrew a constitutional govts so deserved capital punishment. Not all played a part in this..did Akuffo overthrow a legal govt? Capt Baah Achamfour, Cpt Budu Koomson, Maj Rida, Maj Nantogma there are eyewitness accounts of them physically leading men and fighting. @@richmondapore888ok Mr. Are you aware that General Acheampong like Ankrah wasn’t the main brain behind 72? Brigadier Alphonse Carter, Captain Kojo Tshikata and Kofi Awornor were the brains behind it. Agbo and selormey were the executors. Why then was IK Acheampong executed? Did General Akuffo, Utuka, Amedume, Boakye or Kotei take part in any of the coups? per his assertions these people shouldn’t have been executed. The inconsistence in his responses are clear and it shows that there were ulterior motives however he just want to defend the AFRC. Listen to some of the interviews of Rawlings and you’ll here something different altogether. Rawlings has even made it clear that someone like Afrifa wasn’t part of the list but someone’s made sure his name was brought in. If you listen to Baah Acheamfour who’s also a member of the AFRC, he said some else. Now the question is why are they not saying same thing? I’m not in anyway supporting a coup d’tat but Truth must be told so that we move. They just wanted to kill them and they succeeded. That’s all. No amount of explanation can change that because the more they explain the more there’ll be gaps to expose them.

I do not think a rebellion or mutiny or an insurrection in any branch of the armed forces of a country can be elevated to an act of war. There are international conventions on war but hardly any on rebellion or mutiny or an insurrection. Such a claim in respect of war is self serving and must be left to the objective judgement of others ; especially to posterity. The unfortunate events in Ghana had seeds of destruction, when humans tend to assume the persona of immortality with international interference in the wings.

I couldn't follow the interview strictly because of poor audio -- I could hardly hear Andy, and Boakye Gyan's mic was on his right side while he spoke facing his left side. Nevertheless, I found him credible, brilliant, principled, and unapologetic over his roles then and now. Like Captain Awuni, he relayed history as it occurred to him, without embellishments or alterations from hindsight. This man should write a book, if he has not written one already, else opportunistic revisionists would tar his legacy. Until I researched him, I had loathed him by believing the rants of disgruntled Bantus whose corrupt ways he helped stamp out. I admire and respect him now; his principled and bold nature remind me of myself. Ghanaians should stop being ungrateful to people who put their lives and careers on the line to make Ghana as stable as it is today. This inchoate craving for the blood of June 4 and December 31st leaders is rank revisionism and insipid appeal to emotionalism. Ghana was a disaster before June 4; the Limman presidency wasted no time dragging Ghana back to the Ghana of pre-June 4. My country, Nigeria, suffered through similar abuses at the hands of corrupt soldiers and politicians --- but for their corruption and maladministration, Nigeria would be as developed a country today as, at least, South Korea. We clamored for a Rawlings, but because we didn't have one in the 1970s, we ended up with an Abacha who stole us dry and whipped us with koboko (horsewhip) in the 1990s. All those who have come since Abacha have not done better than him; right now, Nigeria is like a cocked gun held with a bird's feather at the trigger. Ghanaians should thank these folks and stop these unnecessary abuses of them --- but for them, Ghana would have gone to the dogs a long time ago. Descendants of the crooks who ruined Ghana are the ones sowing these seeds of ingratitude and abuses; Ghanians must wake up and shun them, after all the Ghanaian public was with the revolutionaries through and through. Try to do better with the audio next time, Andy.

@@blakkchief8748 who ever give the right to kotoka and his cohorts to deposed dr. Nkrumah or later on dr. Busia with the gang of acheampong. Ghanaian army was addictive to coups and the privileges of few. I am glad these young officers put an end to that in blood. Today Ghana is one of the most stable democracy in Africa. The culture of coups has been erradicated and thank God for that. Btw, l am not Ghanaian.

The GENERALS EXECUTION was about what? Boakye Gyan Ghanaians need ANSWER. Evil
@publicrelations6954 жыл бұрын
They violated the constitution by overthrowing a civilian government and caused chaos and people died. So they were executed by the junio officers who took over in the subsequent coup d etat. That's my understanding. I believe this is what he meant when he said the constitution killed them.

@@publicrelations695 ...Why didn’t the constitution kill J J Rawlings, he also overthrew a constitutional elected Government in 1981...? To my opinion, Rawlings was smarter than them all. The likes of Boakye Gyan are now bitter because June 4th was killed and buried as a result of Rawlings 31 December coup detat....

Boakye Gyan didnt take part in the actual fighting he was hiding at Burma Camp with his brother Kyeremeh Gyan and mrs Boakye-Gyan. Then they ran to Achimota her house hid there with Capt Budu Koomson’s wife until everything calmed down and he came back to Burma camp.The main brain behind this june 4th was Agyemang Bio late ,Sarkodie Addo ,Tasiri ,Apitinga and Capt Baah Acheamfour.Boakye-Gyan only came to the Picture after the the june 4th has succeeded because Rawlings was his best friend

Yeah daz true..Agyemang Bio was the soldier who initiated the insurrection on 4th June by storming the Air Force Base with an SMG but got himself shot
@twumampong23034 жыл бұрын
Christopher, June 4 was an uprising by soldiers. Tasiri and his gangs, like Ansah Atiemo and the likes of Sarkodiee Addo planned June 4 with little involvement of officers. The only officer at 5BN during the coup was Baah Achamfour. Boakye Gyan did a lot to compromise the defense of the SMC. Boakye Gyan took cover when soldiers announced that all officers must be killed! Most officers, including brave ones like Major Sulemana, had to run from the Burma Camp because they had no control over the soldiers.

He did not need to take part in the actual fighting my brother, he was one of the architects and the brain behind its organization and planning. You must know that General's in war don't take part in the actual fighting they strategize behind the scenes and give commands and orders of tactics and strategy. Agyemang Bio was his 2IC in-charge of the operations and execution along with others. You must know that June 4th planning started about eights years or so prior with the Free Africa Movement group, and Maj. Boakye Gyan was the leader of the group developing the philosophy and ideology of the need of June 4. He is a man of honour and a patriot and we need to recognize that. Your comment leaves much to be desired, and its not based on the entire facts.

Boakye Gyan played no actual role in June 4th though. He is a liar. And sadly, our elitist media prefers to interview the top people and not the soldiers who actually fought on the ground. Any one would tell you this man was nowhere on June 4th. And he was just a mouthpiece during the 3 months. Afterwards, he took the money and run like those of June 4th who had no conviction. And when JJ came to power, he attempted to overthrow him, and failed badly. But he'll never say that one. Why not actually interview the soldiers who actually fought? The real start of June 4th begun with soldiers being picked up for plans they were discovered with. The other groups realized that if they didnt act then, it wont happen. June 4th actually started on 3rd June at 11pm when an officer was shot accidentally, and the one who did, fearing nothing would follow, shot himself. Boakye Gyan who was positioned across the parade ground, ordered to defend against the revolt, fled and was in Achimota until about Midday June 5th. You should do you homework before you interview these characters. You are messing up Ghana's actual history for whatever political agenda you have.

Village Radio I believe you Capt Budu Koomson said exact same thing on joy tv.This coward was hiding in the bushes with him and then he took his wife and brother Kyeremeh Gyan to his wife’s house at Achimota he remained there until the 5th after everything has calmed down only reason why he was even the mouthpiece of the AFRC was because he was Rawlings best buddy .The real players of june 4th was Capt Baah Acheamfour

Great show ANDY very insightful what I have learnt from Major Boakye Gyan today is his character "Killed or be killed philosophy" all the rules he learnt in the army has been throw away. June 4 was a "house cleaning" that is why nobody was spared. Major Gen. Odartey would've still been killed if he acted differently, no action would have changed that. he is right about one thing. Major Gen. Odartey misunderstood the situation because he thought it was a coup. it was a "WAR" they didn't come to overthrow the SMC II, they came to Kill (House Clean) them all.

exactly, even someone like General Afrifa deserved to die because he together with kotoka and others brought coup in Ghana and in the process of it executing 1966, Afrifa personally killed general Bawa who was the army commander at that, infront of his children.
