I long for the day that the phrase "gay panic" will be ultimately reduced to the way Kpop stans use them
@Exarian2 жыл бұрын
the Kpop scene has it's own homophobia problem it really needs to deal with. If you talk positively or even neutrally about gay men or BEING a gay man on twitter, they'll sometimes just swarm the post and act really shitty about it. If you try to tell them "you know this is like homophobic right?" they'll just take that as license to target you as well. I think it's mostly some very confused teenagers thinking they're scoring a point for women or something and they're using the same tactics that rightfully got them praise when aimed at people who are actually being bigoted. Either way, the Kpop scene has some really hard conversations they gotta deal with and the people who are a problem are very keen to avoid any introspection on the matter. The Kpop scene strikes me as particularly prone to self-reinforcing behavior so bad habits can get entrenched real quick.

@@Exarian I think they're referring to kpop fans habit of using "gay panic" to mean a gay person panicking over being around an attractive person instead of the usual use meaning straight people "panicking" over a gay person existing. I don't want to make Dean Cain's idea sound better than it really was, but I would definitely like the idea of a queer superhero just casually flying over to a very anti-queer place on the map where some bigot is about to toss someone off a roof for being gay, and then the hero (anti-hero, at this point) just tosses he bigot off the roof instead. Then the hero could fly the gay person to a safer place and force that country to hurry along the immigration process or something. Maybe that's this hero's whole thing, just finding people of all sorts being directly oppressed, removing the oppressors, then providing the oppressed with real liberty and security.
@rydacted66132 жыл бұрын
The logical question your hero should ask themselves, having killed their first bigot, is why stop there? After all, all these people are bigots, all of them would throw someone off the roof. And they will again, if you don't act. If you have the power to 'force that country' to change the policy that a democratically elected government (however flawed) implemented, why not do that? When they were new, I liked Iron-Age comics protagonists murdering bad guys. The stories were about delving into the charcoal grey of human nature. If you have the power, why not use it? Ultimately though, I don't like the idea, because the stories are not about hero's, they are about terrorists with super powers.

@@anakaliahaoa2551 I think it was a commentary on the nature of canon and how Marvel isn't exactly diverging but it is allowing for a more fluid canon. So a female Loki isn't canon (most of the time) but now is and potentially so is any other Loki (that aren't already dead). Same goes for the rest of the Marvel heroes, hence the Spider-man crossover thing that's happening.

purity culture (which sadly infects fandom and young ppl too) has always, always justified it with "think of the children" and always comes for lgbt first, who they associate with "sexual degency" because our society still has major hang ups with sexuality (but especially american conservatism/religiousness) edit: oh my god, your point about "this isn't serious it's comic books" as a defense, is word for word what happens in fandom spaces, where this is weaponized. someone gets harassed, and others try to raise awareness - then another person comes in and says "why are you all getting mad it's just silly fandom drama?" ...when it usually involves harassment and stalking, particularly towards adult content creators and lgbt creators.

I really enjoyed the animated series of Superman. I feel like I empathize with the idea of feeling nonhuman or otherwise different but not knowing how that difference will contribute to your success in human society, or hinder it.

Odd how so many people who bitch about pronouns and not knowing what to call people anymore will then complain when people put their pronouns in their username or bio on social media. So we agree that its bad to not know what to call people, but also you don't want to be told what to call people... what

It's never about that. If it were these things wouldn't be an issue. This is all a fake argument to not have to admit that they never want to accept people outside of their narrow idea of 'normal.'

The "Loki is gender-fluid" thing is that guy being EXTRA petty. There's like a picture of the TVA's dossier on Loki that lists the usual stuff like name, alias, gender... etc. And whoever made the graphic, probably thinking back on Loki's mythological origins, listed gender as gender-fluid. But yeah, in the actual show itself if he is gender-fluid it's not really portrayed very prominently.
