The C3 'Vette is an Atlantic City escort, layering on foundation and mortgaging her future to maintain a lifestyle that has not made sense since 1967. When I see a C3, I think about that lady at the bowling alley bar who grabbed my hoo-haas in 2008. She held her Kool and said: "It's about time we get some YOUNG blood in this place.
Special thanks to Ted Stoltz for serving as our 3rd videographer.

@@Eric-zs6rdYeah almost a half century later, the tech improved, DUH! Comparing tech now to then is silly. in 1979 a $1,200.00 Apple II+ personal computer had an 8 bit CPU, 16 KILObytes of RAM and NO storage internal OR external storage (a cassette recorder or floppy disk were OPTIONAL!) meaning that 1200 bucks bought a digital device with LESS power and out of the box usefulness than a new $40.00 Roku. That's a more impressive jump than a mere 4x power at somewhat better MPG.

The C3 Corvette really is a special car really because it went through three different drastic car eras. It was designed in the 60s during the muscle car/can-am era, spent most of its life in the performance doldrums and clunky styling trends of the 70s, and ended with the more high-tech sensibilities of 80s. By 1982 it was essentially a car with a curvy 1960s body with a 1980s engine and interior. The only other car that I can think of that had such a diverse lifespan would be the Lamborghini Countach.

I'm still repairing an old 1979 Corvette after a couple of months and it only had around 30,000 miles on it. The starter was fried, the fuse block was fucked, A/C didn't work and the door panel was slightly pulled out on one side (somehow). What really annoyed me was how it had all these problems and was only sitting around in a garage for 2 - 3 years with slight service. I kept encountering more and more while working on it and now I'm just down to the core problem which is the starter relay. Hopefully I can get it running and sell it for any amount I can in the next couple of weeks. The poor quality on these things really show and you gotta be on top of every single mechanical part on it or else it all falls apart. A real shame, but I bet there are owners out there that have turned their trailerpark 'vette into something decent.

I Love these guys! They be funny! It's not the C3's fault that federal regulations took away it's power. If you remove the cat, add Flow Masters, or Borla, Or Magna Flows, ect you can get near 250 HP. Intake manifold change will get another 30 to 50. As primitive as the suspension is now, they handle very well. And they LOOK Great. Best Looking car made in America EVER!(In my humble opinion).

The C3 really summed up the USA to me as a kid in the early 1980s, watching TV in the uk. The C3 would often be driven by the bad guys in TV shows. The C3 seems to have always had a slightly seedy image. And this one being reviewed perfectly encapsulates that.

I am so happy with the C3 that my family owns, the original owner of the car decided that the original engine in our 76 stingray was wimpy and dropped a 602 crate motor, 4 speed transmission, and drag differential in the back. @MRT well said. The only thing worth a damn in 79 was the underrated Pontiac W72 400 motor which came in the Firebirds/Trans Ams. Didn't take much to wake those babies up. Fastest American production cars of 79

There were three things that caused the C3 to see a huge reduction in horsepower during it's lifetime. In 1971 compression ratios were reduced to permit the use of lower octane fuel (30 HP drop on the base model), 1972 saw the switch from SAE gross to SAE net for horsepower which made the numbers lower even though the power was the same (70 HP drop on the base model), and 1975 saw the introduction of federally required catalytic converters which dropped horsepower even more (35 HP drop on the base model). By 1982 though, the base 350 cu in was back up to 200 HP from the low of 165 HP in 1975. That put the SAE net rated engine in the 1982 pretty much on par with the base engine in the 1971 (which was SAE gross rated at 270 HP) and 1972 models.

Best looking cars ever... the early C3 Stingrays with chrome bumper were even better and could out run any japanese crap, the engines were brilliant over 500hp and 170mph in 1970, so good Italian car makers like Iso Grifo used Corvette engines in their cars in the late 1960's and built gorgeous cars better than the equivalent ferrari's, lambo's and maserati's etc. The reason for the engine size is purely American legislation...get over it. Have you ever seen British , and Japanese crap built at the same time? It's poor ,Italian and japanese were known as rust buckets. The Corvette stingray is probably the best looking sports car over 60 year history compared to anything else in production for that amount of time, whilst still keeping the same , but progressed style, lines and design for the car. This video is a set up, obviously a jealous corvette hater...ha ha. By the way the new C7 Corvette stingray is a brilliant car. 0-60mph in 3 seconds and awsome handling and of course looks.....

My 1969 T Top vette came from the factory as a drag car. 11.5:1 compression. Headers to side pipes. The guy I bought it from decked the heads,( 12.5:1 compression ) changed the rear end to a 6.? and put in a kevlar clutch with maybe 20-30lbs of pressure needed. On Soft Z rated tires I ran 11.9 at 107 ( bumping of the rev limiter ) after I recovered it from just sitting for 20 years. Some new parts and a new Holly 750 double pumper she fired up. It was white with black interior, beautiful Chrome front and rear bumpers, and the luggage rack. Had to run 93 Octane plus a gal or 2 of race fuel to keep it from detonation. Got 5-8 miles / gal. Could start in 4th and smoke the tires. Was built as a 1/8 mile drag car, sold it to get a new 1994, but man do I miss that car. Wanted a daily driver and the 69 was not it but damn it got heads a turning. ( it was so loud, not cause it looked great, I didn't fix the paint and it was not great but the headers to side exhaust was supper loud ! ) The 94 and later 95 I had were by far better cars and I got 26 mpg on long trips in both. ( both autos ) I like the look of the 69 ( which was touted as being 1/2" wider inside and it helped ) but the driving experience and handling of the 93-96 were just so much better. I also had a 1985 in early 1990 but it was only 1/2 the car the 93-96 was. I forgot to add, in 69, the T-TOPS AND THE short BACK WINDOW came out for almost convertible like wind.

Nooooo, you nailed the history of it but you didn't go into any modern relevance! Right at the end you got a brief taste of what the point of driving a C3 today was. I bet if you would of dropped a gear, pinned it on an open highway, all of the images of Olivia Newton-John sitting in the passenger seat would come flooding over you, and all the cracked seams and loose bodywork would slowly smooth until you were driving what you were convinced was the fastest car you've ever driven. At least until you got passed by a Subaru STi. That is... unless the owner was a true gearhead, at which point if you pinned and revved it out you might piss your pants.
