The BJJ guy is smart in putting people in a double disadvantage. By putting the gloves on his opponent, not only can his opponent not grab( as every one else on here has pointed out), but also, the opponent is being encouraged by the BJJ guy to throw punches, which in itself is opening these opponents to being taken down.

With these gloves, the BJJ guy not only secured his victory after the takedown, but also secured the takedown. Gloves may be a disadvantage for the person who wears them, but at the same time, they provide significant advantages compared to a person who doesn't wear them. One advantage is that the surface area of the fists increases, which can protect the wrists and fists. Additionally, wearing gloves reduces facial damage compared to bare-fist fights, although it also increases the impact of a punch. Boxing gloves also reinforce the guard of the standing on-guard position. On the other hand, wearing gloves significantly decreases grappling ability. However, these disadvantages are less relevant for street brawlers, as they typically aim to deliver haymakers and knock people out.

Yeah, but this is just a friendly grappling vs boxing challenge whereby their objective is supposed to be to punch him. He's not expecting them to kick him in the nuts, nor is he trying to go for the groin either. In a real street fight, if a dude was trying to kick him in the balls from that position, he could violently twist their foot and knee in an attempt to destroy their knee ligaments. It's just that he's not trying to cause anyone permanent damage in a friendly KZbin challenge.

For the people saying boxing gloves give them a disatvantage on the ground; this is true, but keep in mind that even if they had mma gloves or no gloves, they would still stand no chance when taken to the ground. MMA gloves would've suited much better. But I've seen enough of that guy's videos to know that even with MMA gloves people who don't have equal grappling experience or something close to it are going to get picked up and put on their ass and punches aren't going to make a difference. Regardless of the boxing gloves being dumb to use, I like watching that guy's videos and he's a talented grappler with a good attitude. Instead if being able to cover on top, the next 30 sec of the round was spent trying to get the glove back on and we went back on the feet. Theyre definitely a disadvantage as far as grappling goes, but they will come off, especially without hand wraps, so they might have been able to escape the grips and lose a glove if hes really gripping the gloves. They dont really have the space to do such things, and his grips moreso ride the edge of the gloves from what i remember
