Gemballas are always a treat to see. I love them. From their Porsches to Testarossas, they're not really... Conventionally attractive, but they are unquestionably Gemballas. Gemballa was somewhat what Mansory is today, but unlike Mansory you can argue that their products can be attractive to the eye

The Barry Hofsteader bit was such classic RCR - only very loosely related to the car at hand, if at all, mocking of stereotypes, digressed into belches and farts, but got more and more philosophically deep. I saw this car at Carlisle! It looks even crazier in person. It was shocking to hear that it was a one-off when the owner told us at the show! Thanks for the review, it really gave me some more insight into how weird Gemballa was and how this car came to be in the states. I never knew that the original plaque was stolen, that sucks. Also, The XL1 you reviewed a few years ago was at the same show, that thing was batshit insane to see in person.

I had a 1991 325IX manual car with a metal sunroof because he has not invented the glass ones yet. It also has leather interior heated seats and of course the factory BMW cellular phone mounted in the center consul. I really wish I still had that car. This car is awesome! I miss mine too... it wasnt X. But it the block was to the same spec as this gemballa except I kept it on the original gearbox which was the 2litre. It was a tourer. Black. We got married in it and conceived our daughter "Camaro" in it (wanted a car name for her but Porsche and Mercedes is too yucky...) Sadly when I was a taxi driver it just stayed on the drive and got mouldy. It had covered over 380k. It got sold in a bad condition but wasn't scrapped and the guy now races it. If you check the dvla uk database its still alive. H591 XUL.

My now estranged buddy had a manual iX, which he gutted and strapped a homebrew turbo to it. The turbine was from an RX-7, and it ran through megasquirt. Fastest car I've ever been in. Had over 500,000km on it. Still exists, apparently still runs to this day. Fantastic cars.

2:11 “wheelbase” is the incorrect term. Wheelbase is the distance between the front wheels and rear wheels. Track width is the term you’re looking for, that’s the distance between each front wheel or each rear wheel.

I saw this car a couple months ago at Summit Point and my jaw dropped. I knew it was either a Gemballa or some variant of a Koenig. What I didn’t know was that this was a 1-of-1 Gemballa, so hats off to the owner for having the nads to street drive this thing, especially with the now one-piece body work.

The E30 headlights really did fog up. It was a feature, not a fault. Back in the day at annual inspection (MOT if you will) I was ordered to replace one fogged headlight on my E30. As if replacing would make any actual difference. And the inspector didn't even notice the other high beam had an inch of water in it, water had washed the fog down.

What happens when you build a wide body e30 in the dark. There was a bodykit for the e30 made by Zeemax, that came complete with Testarossa strakes and it actually looked ok. This on the other hand looks like all the other Gemballa efforts.
