I traded a wrx for a 370z. Surprisingly I disliked the 370z. I was too tall for the car and the blind spot was so big I almost got hit by an Escalade, I even turned my head and anything. Cool car just not for me. So fast forward 5 years. Got another wrx, 2000 tundra, and a 5 speed forester xt. I’m content with my fleet

I'm having fun imagining what stories you saw as a hospital security person that lead you to that conclusion. As security person, you would have been the one to break up fights. I didn’t understand Miata’s hype until I owned one. I had owned a 370z for 3 years and dailied it before owning a Miata. I totally understand the comment about people from the outside wondering if the Miata can possibly live up to the hype. But I can say that it absolutely does. My Miata is a 2000 SE and every single time I drive it, it brings me joy. Miata is always the answer, except when it isn’t :)

I know a guy (at the time he was roughly 40) who owned a C5 Z06 and was all about just romping on the gas and so forth. He was a husky fellow too, but kind and not some jock. Anyways, he tracked his Z06 a few times, and a couple years later he suddenly showed up in a Spec-Miata and forever abandoned the burly-car life for the on-rails, momentum-based Miata scene. He races all the time. Excellent episode, Mr. Regular 👏

@@illegal_space_alien Lol, well, there's the Protagonist playing the acoustic at the waterfall and then there's the electric that's there as "regular" song instrumentation. The increasingly complex guitar work in Discovery itself is also assumed to be over time, as he develops his skill before presenting to the Priests. It's not assumed that every bit of guitar playing in the song is the Protagonist.

I'm 6'5" and once at an auto show in Atlanta circa 2010 I sat in an NC with the top down and was surprised how well I fit actually. Then I pressed the button for the retractable hardtop and it wanged the back of my head. Mazda rep comes over frantically and says, "Yeah the cut off for these is below 6'." A soul crushing moment for sure. Also tried to get in the driver's seat of a friends early NA and that just wasn't physically possible to begin with.

I am a 6'7" American male who wanted nothing more than a Triumph or MGB as a kid in the 70s. Sunroof down, curvy road ready to carve up. By the time I was old enough to own such a vehicle, my dreams died the first time I tried to shoehorn myself into one. Sadly I have the body built for a fat pig F250 or a fake muscle Mustang, but no desire whatsoever for such macho nonsense. I love Mazdas (driven them almost exclusively for 30 years now) which only enhances my sadness at never being able to enjoy a Miata. Yet like the centerfolds plastered on my teenage wall back when the Miata was first introduced in '89, knowing it can never be mine only enhances the allure.
@BB-tc6gz
@BB-tc6gz 3 жыл бұрын
@@Trenchbroom Yeah it's truly not fair in regards to those British roadsters and especially the Miata, being an actually daily driveable car. Though I did own two very small cars that through excellent space efficiency and a total lack of safety tech were very roomy for me. A '76 Datsun 280z and a '90 Civic Sedan. The first gen Z car especially is way more comfy than it has a right to be. Though I am lanky with a pretty small frame for my height, which likely played a big role because they are still kinda narrow. But leg room is seriously up there with a Town Car/Marquis.

I've owned my Mazdaspeed Miata for nearly 12 years and it was my daily for nearly 10. I adore that car, and now that I drive it much less often, every trip feels that much more special. Also, adding the Flyin' Miata intake and downpipe really wakes it up. You get boost much sooner and the car pulls harder all the way to redline. It goes from just being quicker than a normal one to being legitimately fast.

I can tell you as a twenty-something who worked hard and bought himself a Mustang to daily, that you just need to be ready to be judged regardless of what sports car you buy or how you drive it. People will tell you what they think, regardless of if you've asked for it or not. The good news is, if you did buy the car for yourself and nobody else, all of that shouldn't matter. Just be prepared to experience a different side of people that you never saw driving more common cars.

I bought a 2001 LS with the sport package in 2018. I bought it for my wife because she wanted to try autocross and what better car is there to learn a stick shift in, except maybe a CRX Si? Finding a non-trashed CRX for a realistic price these days is nearly impossible, so, Miata is the answer. She learned to drive it, then rejected it for my GTO. I took it over and have loved driving it ever since. What a great car. Feeling emasculated? Hell no, only those that are already feeling emasculated wonder about things like that. This car is a confirmation that anyone can drive anything and this car provides me an excellent time! Slow? Yeah. Handles like it's on rails? Hell yes. Adding power? Easy.

That 178hp is at the crank. Its more like 155whp. Still even with the factory turbo, a little intake/exhaust moding and ecu tuning and you’ve got yourself a ~200hp car that actually makes more torque than hp. Such a great car. They did not really have a 7 speed. They had a four speed with a planetary overdrive. My Volvo 240 had one.. but you could only engage it in 4th gear instead of 2, 3, and 4 like the Vette. You’d never shift it sequentially. All it was for is to give the enthusiasts what they wanted in terms of performance and the EPA what they wanted in terms of fuel efficiency.. until the 6 speed and CAGS aka “skip shift”.
