Brooks Mine Update!
Bringing an old forgotten coal mine tour back to life is no easy feat, but when passion, dedication and expertise is involved it becomes a reality.
In this Part 2 video, we'll get an up-close and personal look at the Significant Progress that has been made over the last 10 months at the Brooks Mine in Scranton, PA. Amazing. Thanks so much to these guys for working so hard to keep local history alive! My grandfather was a breaker boy and then served during WW2. He had black lung too, but lived a long life. Mining is a big, important part of our history. The only thing that worries me is that this is in Scranton, and the city govt can screw up anything. Hope they leave the mine exhibit alone.

Amazing, both my parents and grandparents are from Summit Hill. The fact that the rails being installed in the Brooks mine are from Summit Hill's old "Switchback" railroad to Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe,) is amazing. Thanks for the tour, awesome!

Awesome work on the part of both the UGM’s and Jay for this video. The passion for the history of the Anthracite Coal industry and sharing it with the public is as strong or stronger with Chris & the UGM’s today as when I shared some adventures with them over 20 years ago. Jay your talent and equipment really brings out the feeling of being and working in a dark, wet environment lit by the headlamps of the miners. The detail in the rock, coal, wood was fantastic in a trying environment. The HDR of a white mouse 🐁 in a black coal mine, even when the backhoe punched thru and let in all that light was amazing. I look forward to touring this and the Lackawanna mine with my Grandson this year. Congratulations UGM’s for making your dream come true. Thanks Jay for another great insight to the history that surrounds us. You’re the best.

I went back & watched Part 1 for context, and Wow! Impressive progress! It really is amazing to see the amount of work that goes into excavating a mine such as this. You did a fantastic job of documenting & filming the process, inside & out. Great work! Excellent tour guide, too! Really great of Chris & the crew to welcome you into this very special project. I love that the rails used are from the Switchback Gravity Railroad. That's just awesome to me as a huge fan of the Switchback and Anthracite mining in PV

You are very lucky that the Coal is not very deep. I know what are you trying to do have a good Tourist attraction. That’s good in Kentucky they would already strip it a lot quicker lot easier and more money in their pocket. A big in loader like to do here in Kentucky around the mountain side. Its on the bottom too. there are two veins there. the bottom vein is about 20-24" and the top is 30-36" with a 3-4 foot rock divider between them.

That Tiny tunnel is the way out if something happens? WTH. Guess those with heart, knee, hip, back issues, and those that are old/disabled that come to see, will just be stuck and die if something go sideways. Law should be it big enough to walk through. looks like they could care less. Lol.

The mine is so safe that the chances of ever needing it are so slim its almost zero. It is mainly for ventilation. If someone with the conditions you listed needed to be removed through the second opening, they can be put on a back board and slid out.
