Best music theory lesson I've had! The fact it was done on a guitar (not a piano) just makes it the more awesome.

Great topic and presentation on simplifying it. I usually think of reharmonization in two ways: 1. Enhancing the chord with extensions and tensions 2. Completely replacing the chord with something else. Great video!

Most tutors or the harmonization lessons advise you to play the triads / chords of the diatonic scale up and down the neck.. the way you played each note of the scale with 3 chord options and the melody note being the root or the 5th etc demonstrated clearly made me go aha why don't I play all the notes in each scale and apply it to all common keys .. so thank you very much but I guess we will have to jazz it up a bit and add some more notes to the chords which is a step further ..

This is on c major, which is the same as A minor, minor scale have 3 type; natural, harmonic and melodic scale, also have different minor and major chord. If I choose F major side it will get one B flat, it is still avoidable subdominant chord.

Thank you for the mini class. How do one look at the music sheet (notes) and translate it to chords? Pls help as I’m only a beginner studying on my own due to lock down.

Collect note in each measure into on cluster of chord vertically, like if it was C major (C E G) it will have at least (C and E). Before read a sheet, notice key signature and find what tonic is, Like C major and A minor they depend which one start first and it is called tonic chord. Read more on Scale chord.

In choosing the chord on a particular melody, does is have to be within the scale of melody? Most of time I find it hard to identify thw scale used in a melody
@GarGlingT

I found he uses minor related key because variation of chord is 3 type are not the same. You can listen to river flow in you, yiruma which he use chord progression without modulation just change minor type.

So, correct me if I'm wrong... You are basically keeping the same notes for the melody but you are changing the key of the song?
@xavierlebeuf3061
@xavierlebeuf3061 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't watched the whole video so I might but wrong but I think he is only varying the chord functions (for example switching the I for the vi) within the same key
@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy

Xavier is correct. Same key, but using different chords within that key that share at least one of the same notes
