Just three weeks ago, 25 thin and neglected foals, stallions and pregnant mares were removed from an isolated farm in Aberdeenshire. The semi feral horses had not been handled or received even the most basic of care for many months and were forced to wade through thick mud to reach what little grazing was available. They had been allowed to breed indiscriminately and the body of a still born foal had been left where it lay. A weak and collapsed filly was also found and had to be put to sleep.
The plight of the horses was discovered after a concerned member of the public called World Horse Welfares free UK Welfare Hotline. Field Officer Doug Howie was sent to investigate and was shocked at what he found. Doug knew that in order to get the horses signed over and ensure their safe removal, he would have to keep quiet about a terrible discovery he had made at the premises.

Behind some of the decaying carcasses in the barn you can see two round bales. They *had* food, but never fed it to them, and god knows how horrific that hay is by now with the dead horses decaying alongside it. Staggering. Absolutely staggering. Why have horses if you don't want to care for them?

I would rather go hungry than have my animals go hungry... Seriously, they are completely dependent upon someone for their care when we decide to "own" them. As far as I'm concerned it's a moral obligation to do everything correctly when you become an owner. No matter if it's a fish in a bowl or horses in a field.

It is unbelievable that someone would treat animals like that and continue to make more in the process. The mentality they must have to sleep at night is something I will never understand. Thank you to everyone helping to save these horses.

I cried through the whole thing but when the little foal was laid in the stable with hay being dropped on it's face and it was looking round like 'huh' I laughed because that little thing just missed out on living a life of suffering.these people do an amazing job and deserve medals!

I wish I had money to donate, they do so much wonderful work. It breaks my heart that it is even necessary, no horse or any animal should ever be neglected or abused. But as long as there are evil people out there who treat horses this way thank God these people will working so hard to save them. And God bless all the people who can and do donate to make it all possible. This beautiful farm must be heaven to these poor horses. I pray they all find good, loving forever homes and never know suffering again.

These videos are great to teach ppl abt responsibilities! Horses are living beings and once u own one it is UR responsibility until the horse is sold/gifted on or has passed away. Like human babies they need attention, love and a healthy diet! LOOK AFTER UR HORSE AS THEY R THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN SEE INTO UR HEART AND KNOW WHAT U FEEL/THINK!

I wish I had the means to save every neglected and abused animal in the in the world. I would spend every cent I had. It kills me that there are soooo many who are suffering and dying everyday from evil and uncaring “humans”. The pain they endure haunts me every minute of every day. They need to know this is NOT how it is supposed to be. How it breaks my heart that there are so many “humans” that perpetuate this. Bless you for what you do. You have a special place in Heaven.

I Just want to say a huge thanks to charities like this, without HorseCharity those horses would have not seen better days, it is such a waste i just can't understand one bit how a human being can make animals suffer like this. When i am able to get my own horse/pony one day, i will always be heading to the rescue center, same with cats and dogs xxxx

This is so very sad, and makes me angry that people can let this happen, and there is no excuse for it. The horses in the barn that had die and just been left have had no dignity in their lives. I do praise the rescuers for their great work.

I have a question. There's these horses near my house and there was 4 but now 2. And the 2 that are there are skinny, there bones a sticking out and there hooves are in need of trimming, they look square almost. The pasture there in has weeds in it and I believe they have water. I never see hay, I don't know what to do, if I should call someone or something??

i HorseMad if i was you i would approach the owner of the horses and have a talk with him, gather information, let him do his side of the story. and if he doesnt have a good reason why the horses are the way they are, i would call the animal police

You know they are good horse people, when they are recognizing the different families, and keeping them with their own family during all the moving and such. So sad with the horses where they were to late to rescue, but luckily, the rest will have a better life and the foals will be given the best.

This is such a horrific story and probably the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I just hope that the people who had these horses will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, serve prison time, and then be prohibited from EVER being able to be around or own ANY animals in the future.
