Let's list out the pros and cons of AWL shall we Pro: -Iconic voice(dubs from 1998 for Neon Evangelion/Yukiko Amagi from Persona 4) Cons: -Mistreats and embarrassed her son for his "habits" on KZbin. Mind you, this is the same son she had 16 years ago that suffered from Leukemia and she was forced to semi-retire to cover his costs for treatment, then proceeded to write a book documenting her experience -Has the balls to call out/ roast two guys who weren't even attending the event(i.e Vic Mignogna and Chuck Huber)when she couldn't even say it to their face. Violating the purpose of the event, which was supposed to roasts the VA's sitting on the desk -Writes death threats on Twitter for people who criticize her behavior and overall "professionalism"(when she calls her so called followers her "children", kinda fuckin creepy considering she has one of her own) - Destroys her own image as an "idol" to a fan(There was this terminally ill cancer patient who was on borrowed time, 14 years old, who "loved" Amanda's performance as Yukiko Amagi & was a fan of Persona 4. She asked her father if she could meet with Amanda, and knowingly reached out to her via Twitter, to which she accepted the invitation. High on weed before the meet and greet in the hospital where she's was recuperating from temporary treatment, she finally met with the fan and talked with her. I say talk when all Amanda did was destroy her dreams, signed the poster she had and told her she should have croaked. And before you ask, the girl didn't make it. After which, her father came in to discuss his experience from his daughters perspective.) - Rages on Twitter for not having a blue checkmark So before you put someone on a high pedestal, think about all the stuff she's put people through

WOW Amanda Winn Lee’s voice changed A LOT in the last 24 years. She used to sound virtually identical to Brina Palencia, but now, I hate to say it, but she sounds too old to be doing this part. Not unlike Mark Hamill still trying to play the Joker. Maybe she just chose to play the part a little differently this time…I don’t know.

The scene in Rebuild 2.0 when the fight Zeruel... she was just the wrong person or using the wrong performance there. i kinda cringed. When I heard it, I tried as hard as I could to find a Funimation copy of 3.0 once I saw it got yanked, since I didn't have it (lost my job when it came out).

I love Amanda's voice of Rei the best! It's so unique in being really smooth and soothing yet slightly raspy. Of-course I might be biased since Amazon's rebuilds were my intro to Eva, but I cannot imagine watching it differently. Other VA's, while good are a bit generic. They could pass as many characters, but Amanda is the true Ayanami!

The prime dub is just not the wave…. All voices were pretty similar in this case to me. But I probably am partial to the Rebuild dub because with saw that one in dub a lot. Only watched the original anime on TV and when I watched it through completely I watched it in sub probably like most people. I really like the new Netflix dub tho compared to the other dubs.

Since the 90s, I have always watched the sub. So I have zero nostalgia for the ADV dub. While the Japanese voice is perfectly fit for the character. Brina Palencia does the voice in a way where she understands the character. Zero inflection for a performance of a character with half a soul. Exactly like Rei should sound. the Amanda Winn Lee redub in 2021 builds on that and I think that is the perfect dub performance.

The GKids Ultimate Edition only has the TV Series + Death + End of Evangelion, and unfortunately Brina Palencia isn't in any of those Amanda Winn Lee is in the "Classic Dub" and Ryan Bartley is in the "Official Dub"

ADV Amanda Winn Lee sounds the best to me. I think she was able to thread that needled between whispery and mysterious but also a person the best out of this list. I think Lee went too soft for the Rebuilds, but it has been decades since she played Rei.

Dear god Amazon Rei sounds like a chain smoker. Yeah, as great as it is to hear Amanda again, her voice is way too old and rusty. She’s clearly trying her best but it’s just been too long. It honestly sounds like half the cast were just tired and wanted to get this over with. Especially Tiffany Grant who doesn’t have any of the same ferocity or weight she had in the Funimation version. It’s literally the same performance she gave in the Funimation version but with less enthusiasm. Honestly re dubbing these movies was just pointless to me. We already have the Funimation versions that already brought back most of the ADV cast, so this all just feels pointless. I respect Amazon for getting most if not all of the ADV crew for these movies, but they’ve honestly just gotten rusty at this point.

Only three ADV cast members reprised their role in the Funimation dub though. (Unless you wanna count John Swasey who also portrayed Gendo in the ADV director's cut episodes) And honestly I don't know why they didn't have voice actors like Monica Rial and Greg Ayres reprise their director's cut roles when they were in the dub.
