This is my personal opinion, but I think a large amount of the dialogue is from Lain’s perspective. I get the whole program thing but I think Lain is autistic, because I am aswell and I also hear conversations a lot like this. @BenjaminSteber2 жыл бұрын
The acting really gets into a groove as the show goes on. Lain never really loses her trademark social awkwardness even as her separate personalities goad her. Minor characters like the knights are so oddball that each of them get a distinct voice and delivery. By the end the only voice I never thought fit was Alice. She always sounded way too old which gave the scene where she’s caught Janing off that much more awkward and not in a well cast way. Still, watching Lains awkward deadpan lean into the series’ unvoiced creeping horror works better and better with each episode.
@xanadu67842 жыл бұрын
Only anime where I prefer the dub. The weird, stilted, surreal delivery enhances the experience, and the dub version of, "Look at me, I'm comiting suicide" has haunted me for over two decades.

Actually, the word "psyche" in this case is not butchered. The story draws heavily from esoteric religion, and "psyche" is spoken as the word written in Greek as in ancient texts - "ψῡχή" or "pshuche" (hard to transliterate in English, but it's pretty much pronounced like Lain says it.) If anything, the butchery was in spelling it "psyche" to begin with. They're not even REALLY the same word - they kind of describe the same thing, but in different connotations. In modern society, the mind or psyche are seen as a product of a brain. In ancient Greek society it was seen much differently - ψῡχή is translated as "The animating principle of a human or animal body, vital spirit, soul, life." Getting the ψῡχή chip was a vital part of awakening to her true self, and started her on the path to transcension. It fits the scenario much better in its original form than transliterated as "psyche."

Akchually, uhm, it is pronounced [psy:'k3:] with a rising tone as per 5th century BCE Attic pronounciation, later it would become [psy'xi] from 4th century bce onwards. [psy'çi] 10th century. So the pshu- part here is wrong, and the stress is unproper.

Silent Hill 2 has some of the best/worst voice acting ever and it works perfectly. They went out of their way to model the characters after their actors, and they cop to them talking so strangely because the characters are strange people. Angela sounds like an adult woman but talks like a kid because she is a kid that has experienced some rough stuff that has aged her beyond her years. James sounds so stilted and awkward because he is a stilted and awkward guy. Meanwhile Mary/Maria has some of the best voice acting I've heard in a game ever.

when it comes to serial experiments lain everyone should watch both at some point tbh, they're entirely different experiences. the sub carries a somewhat disjointed vibe that perfectly complements the show's themes (kaori shimizu's performance in particular is just great), meanwhile the dub has that same bizarre, laughable quality as the spoken dialogue in dark seed 2, and it somehow fits in the worst way. would recommend to 9 out of 10 doctors

@@threemilkT Sub translations aren't 100% accurate and worse, they tend to add just as much crap to spice up the dialogue as Dubs.
