Miranda, I just want to let you know that the Meat Counter was the correct term. The deli is usually the area with cured meats and cheeses. The meat counter is where you get the raw meats and fish. When I worked in a grocery store, we always referred to it as the meat counter

Even in the outdoor community it is refreshing to see someone so easily talking about simple bodily functions and needs. People need to fart, poop, pee, cough, sneeze, pick their noses and squash some pimples here and there. It is human, it is even funny at times to see it pop up in a video, because lots of people cut it out to leave in heroic sections of crafting, climbing and whatnot. I loved seeing Miranda being a pretty natural human in nature.

Great demonstration of what can be done with a little planning. My wife and I taught our kids to find and collect 10 pieces of garbage at every campsite. Miranda, next time you collect those bottles, crush the air out of them and you can carry more in that plastic bag. 30 or so years ago I went on a canoe day-trip with a woman I was dating in Riverhead, Long Island, New York. The whole trip really was messed up because I kept finding floating plastic bottles and cans all along the river's edge and sometimes in the middle of the slow moving river. My date thought I was crazy for stopping to pick up the trash and fill up our canoe in the process. But I abide by the take only pictures, leave only footprints mode of being out in nature as much as I can and sadly, that includes picking up other people's trash. Someday maybe we'll all live in a world where being a conscientious steward of our environment will be a national requirement. But until then, whether I'm on foot, on a bicycle, or on the back of a horse, I'll stop and pick up the trash as much as I can.

Hey Miranda, you talked a lot about recycling in the context of it being "zero waste." Unfortunately, this is not the case here in the US. Only about 8% (a generous estimate) of the plastics we put in the recyling bin actually get recycled. It's due to a lot of things, but mostly it's (1) people throwing non-recycleable items in with regular recycling, (2) lack of infrastructure to handle the wide variety of plastics, and (3) a lack of a market for recycleable plastics so there's no economic incentive (which is arguably the biggest problem). Recycling is not a solution. It's a tool that can help solve the problem, but the overall solution is to reduce our plastic consumption in the first place and reuse what we already have!
@that_auntceleste58483 жыл бұрын
This is a good reason to consider buying items made from recycled plastic in the products we purchased and promote.
@Em-fz6eb2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning this! I think people hear "plastics recycling" and assume that it's similar to, say, how aluminum is recycled, but plastic recycling as most people assume it to be is largely a myth.

Hi Miranda, great video! I noticed in a few videos that you use the same silicone food storage bags I use in my kitchen and I think that’s awesome! I was wondering if you’ve ever tried adding your boiling water to the bag instead of mixing your dehydrated food into your pot? These bags can be used in the freezer and in boiling water, so you could freeze food, let it thaw while you hike, and then warm it up in the bag in your pot (or add the water to the bag and seal it to rehydrate your food). They also make larger ones that stand up on their own. Thank you for all the great videos!!!
