Thank you so much for this video and your time producing it. I am in the process of finding a replacement mover for my caravan as I've had problems on more than one occasion with it (powrtouch). May I ask after your research why you actually settled for this manufacture? This mover is so much more compact and with great ground clearance. Thanks again

Hi and thanks for the positive comments. For me i didn’t start with price as my first priority was i wanted a fully automatic one as i didn’t what the faff of winding the rollers out and the second was low weight as we (now with hindsight mistakenly) didn’t update the max weight of our caravan in the factory. I originally looked at a Truma XT but it soon became clear that the quoted weight was only the mover and not all the ancillaries. Alko was quite heavy and used more power than the Reich and i think only fits an Alko chassis so that left the Reich. The Pro is about 25% cheaper than the Infinity, weight was good and it had the BPW fitting (about €100 more than the non BPW Pro) so that swung it. Also as it’s white/grey it blends in well with the caravan colour.

Apologies I forgot to get your opinion of Your Hobby caravan in terms of build quality and reliability. Thanks

Build quality is ok. I have tightened a few things up but Hobby is not super premium. Mechanically no faults, but i have had to replace a cooker flame failure thing and a mirror in the bathroom (it didn’t survive the A12 on a trip to UK! Gives me an idea to do a review video?

Great video, very informative, thanks. I recently bought a used caravan with an Easydriver Pro 2.0 already professionally fitted. My problem is that the isolation switch has been installed in the rear of the single axle caravan just above the battery. When I arrive at a campsite I have to wind down the rear stabilisers before entering the caravan to switch on the isolation switch. Sooner or later I am going to forget to wind them down and tip the caravan on its end, possibly with disastrous consequences. Moving the isolation switch to a position forward of the axle would avoid this. I am not an electrician but it seems it would be be a fairly simple job. Would there be any problem with doing this, and if not, could you tell me what gauge of wiring I would need. many thanks in anticipation.

I didn’t fit one as i went down the power pack route. Think you might need to relocate the whole wiring and maybe battery (if possible) as i think they can only be limited distance between the battery and the control unit. All you will need to do is cut the existing cable from the battery to the control unit and crimp attach two ring connectors and they go over the connection points on the switch and ares held in place with a nut (like the connectors on the control box). So you should not need any new wire but i think the distance from the battery to the control box is limited to about 1 metre (could me 1.1m); you’ll need to check the installation instructions. Hope this helps?

Hello! thanks for your explanation. I have a problem in my Easydriver Pro 1.8. The left motor fails in the first movement, that of bringing the mechanism closer to the wheel. Rotation does not fail. The right works perfectly in its 2 functions. A few days ago the campsite where my caravan was located was flooded, luckily no water got inside but the EasyDriver mechanism was flooded. Could this be the cause? How do you think you could solve it? Thank you very much in advance for your help. Cheers

Hi Carles. Sounds like you are having a few issues. If it is under warranty then i suggest taking it back to the dealer? Next i would suggest using the power of Google to see if this problem is being discussed on forums and this might give you the fix. If all else fails i would check the wiring in the control box on the caravan and the wiring connections to the motor. If the motor still turns the drive wheel then possibly there is a failure of a cog or drive wheel/shaft inside the mover housing that deploys the roller. If all else fails then maybe water did get in the motor when you next speak to your insurance company?😜

Thanks for the video. I am thinking of buying an Hobby 540UL or similar with an MTPLM of 1500KG whereas yours is 1800KG if I am correct. How comfortable is the mover with the 1800KG weight? We have a slope on our drive which I will attempt to find the % incline of tomorrow and see if this mover would be suitable. Also how much clearance is there between the mover and the ground? Thanks.
@mercedes_and_more
@mercedes_and_more 2 жыл бұрын
Brian. Despite what it says i think that 1800kg is about the limit for this mover. It will move the van up a levelling ramp but it is more comfortable moving one wheel up the ramp and then moving the other wheel on the opposite side to square up the van. That said the steepest i have moved it on paved roads (our drive) is 5% and there are no issues (empty at about 1650 or full at 1800kg). Ground clearance varies if the van is full/empty - all i can say is that i have lost about 1cm of ground clearance with this set up

Could you help with sourcing the brackets that bolt to thechassis
@mercedes_and_more
@mercedes_and_more Жыл бұрын
They come as part of the kit. Two versions of this Mover are made. The traditional one that clamps to the chassis and the special BPW version (this one) that bolts into the chassis. The mounting bolts/brackets for the motor are different so even if you had the brackets then the two versions are not compatible. You can mount a non BPW version by clamping it to the chassis on a Hobby though but you will loose about another 3cm of ground clearance.

Thanks for your reply. Apologies but I have a couple more questions. I am concerned about getting the max clearance from the ground having had a mover on my previous caravan hitting a speed bump and immobilising us. Most movers have a piece of the mover underneath lessening the clearance but this mover appears to be just the rectangular box in the pictures without any parts under the main body. Is this correct? Apparently in Germany a 4" clearance is allowed while it is 6" in the UK. As you can imagine I would prefer a 6" clearance. Thanks for your help again.

Yes. If you have a Hobby MY16 onwards then the chassis has a quadrilateral space with 4 holes front of the wheel. If you have Reich BPW model then the mover bolts into this hole and a tube joins both sides. This holds the mover to the chassis. Other “clamp” the chassis with the tube underneath. My installation loses about 15mm, the clamp ones about 35mm (with the Reich). As far as i know there is no minimum clearance but it is recommended to have at least 150mm (6”). Does this help?

@@mercedes_and_more yes thanks. I am going to MB in Dunstable to have a look at 3 Hobby's tomorrow so I will ask about the fitting arrangements. It would be ideal if there is no tube underneath. Hopefully they will be able to advise. Thanks again.

Think the only movers that fit are made by Reich - needed to be their “BPW” variant: www.caravanmovershop.eu/Reich/producten-45172-Reich-Pro-2.8-BPW-B2-Full-automatic-mover-International-version-(2020)-Mover-wit.php is a great website with info in English

Apologies but I have a some more questions if you don't mind. What is a Hobby MY16 caravan?, What is different about the BPW model? How much does this model cost? It looks as if it comes with it's own battery so does it need to use a leisure battery? The 2022 540UL Hobby we looked at does not come with one. Could you measure the ground clearance of your set up for me? Sorry for so many questions but the dealer is 120 miles from us and we need to get this right before proceeding. Thanks.

Ok. So MY16 is model year 16 (vans made after Aug 16). UK Hobby’s do come with a 12v battery i think (self sufficiency package) but if the ones you ares looking at is an EU import it likely won’t. I use a power pack (5kg) and not a leisure battery (20kg). The longest i have used by mover was about 15 mins (on paved bricks) and the voltage went from 13.7 to 13.1, so plenty of capacity. I can measure the ground cleanance but you won’t get an answer for a week or so as i am on holiday (not in the van). The BPW model of Reich mover means it attached direct to the chassis in the pre cut out area of the chassis and does not clamp onto the bottom rail of the chassis.

@@mercedes_and_more Hope you enjoyed your holiday. As per our recent discussion could you measure the ground clearance on your Hobby for me and why did you choose this mover? I ask because our local caravan dealer Lee Davey at Maidstone were very sniffy about fitting this mover to a caravan we were interested in. Thanks Brian.

Brian, if you send me an email to MandMQuestions@gmail.com with an email address or a WhatsApp phone no. then I’ll send you some pictures or we can talk one to one. I can confirm that with this mover you loose 15mm of ground clearance👍 below the chassis rail
