Marlena is not a woman, or a lost love. Marlena is the music or, rather, the inspiration. Re-read the translation, keeping this in mind and think that Damiano was 18 when he wrote the words. Thanks for everything, Mike. It's wonderful to follow you.

Loved seeing your reactions to this song by Maneskin. It is just perfection in every way and absolutely amazing when one realizes how young they were when they produced it. Each member of the group is so incredibly talented in their own way and when they come together they create a unique kind of magic and create emotions that touch one so deeply. Thank you Mike for your analysis and thank you Maneskin for your beautiful music. And yes the Italian language is beautiful to hear, I hope that Maneskin will continue to write in Italian because there are so many bands and singers sining in English but not many internationally recognized bands today singing in Italian.

When Damiano (the singer) lost his inspiration when he couldn't found the words to write his lyrics he gave to that the name Marlena and begged it to come back because he could not live without ❤️ And maybe he was only 16 or 18 that's crazy!!!! And this is maybe the only band that sounds better in live version than studio version. My English is not perfect but I hope you'll understand There is not 1 song of them that isn't perfect ❤ Finally I'm so proud they are Italian in a world where the greatests are only American or English. There is another great Italian rock singer: Vasco which I want to recommend you listen to. Thanks for your reaction

Torna a casa (2018, from their first full length album) was their absolute hit single in Italy, its music video is still one of their most watched videos and it's among their 10 most streamed songs of all time.

Marlena is their inspiration, is the music that saved them, that guides them to go further. If you think of the song this way, you realize how He invokes her while he has still Half cigarette and a piece of paper to come back and inspire him to write more music, because without inspiration they are doomed to disappear

When you see and hear this song and Coraline, you can understand the true artistry of what they can do as teenagers! The poetry of the lyrics, the music, and the vocals are special. For me it feels like when I discovered QUEEN in my late teens.

I finished watching the last reaction and this had just been posted, so I guess I'm here again. lol Watching stuff while I work is what keeps working all day bearable, so I hope you'll bear with me, too. The lyrics are definitely hoping "Marlena", as if she was a long lost lover, to come back home. "Marlena" is a concept from their first album, but despite having a woman's name, she's not a real person: she's their muse. They have said "Marlena", their muse as artists, represents freedom, beauty and creation. So this is a love song, in a way, but not necessarily to a lover, but to music, because without it, they'd be nothing.

Hi Mike, I just watched all your reactions back to back and it's been a pleasure, you are becoming a fan hahaha ❤ Since you asked for suggestions i'm gonna give two, two opposite songs from their last album. One is a punk banger, Kool Kids, that is super ironic but explain well their take about music (when you said they aren't a specific genre but they just rock, they kinda say the same in the song). There's a great live video on SiriusXM channel). The other one is an Italian ballad, Il dono della vita, and imho is their most refined song so far, pretty sure that as a musician you will love it! There's no a live version of that song tho. Thank you so much for your videos, i have enjoyed them tremendously!!

Damiano couldnt find any inspiration at that time for writing songs, they wanted to make their second album i think and he had like a "blackout" if this makes sense. Marlena he calls his kreativity his inspiration....so he began to wrote about Marlena to come back home to him....and they finally got another song for their album and Marlena did come home after they finished that song. love it
