I do not have an aerodynamics engineering degree, however I have spent extensive amounts of time designing both base-game Jet Fighters, Propeller Fighters, Rocket Powered Fighters, as well as my latest, a four-engine propeller powered bomber, capable of caring 30+ bombs in the wings and a full fuselage full of grenades for carpet bombing. Instead of using wing blocks as the rudder and yaw+up and down pieces, use propeller blades mounted on the wing. You have much more controllable performance while having the aircraft look more like a traditional build. This part is up to you, but I focus more on the build of the plane rather than the engines limited power in the base game. I turn up water cannon power if I am making a steam jet, or when I do propeller builds, I use my own design of engine with multiple powered cogs as the rotational engine piece and turn the speed up on them up too. This is pretty obvious, but the basic rule of aerodynamic engineering in Besiege is the more powered and consequently faster the aircraft travels, the more control you have over it but the harder it becomes to control. I have made insanely fast rocket fighters this way. For bombers, they only usually travel at around 40mps max, however have an enormous payload with turrets and defensive firepower. For a missile armed plane such as yours, I would actually go for a twin jet style plane with two engines on each wing, dedicating the rest of the plane for armament mounting as well as not having to design the body of the aircraft around the engine. If you don't want to use steam jets, for an aircraft such as this I would personally mount the missiles to a propeller powered bomber, as it is easier to find the middle ground of speed+controllability, allowing for either a twin propeller engine or quad engine behemoth carrying a payload enough to destroy a small city.

Also, your centre of mass should allign with or be behind your landing gear on the back if you want leverage. If center of mass is ahead of the back landing gear, it will have trouble pitching up for initial takeoff. Edit : the info button reveals center of mass and lift.
@angelorondini58352 жыл бұрын
Doesn't that make it tip over even when standing still? I'm not sure but I think in real planes it's the horizontal stabilizer that is behind the back wheels so when it pitches up for take off it creates a force towards the ground that pitches the nose up
@angelorondini58352 жыл бұрын
Also real planes have the wings slightly pitched up so they generate lift even in the plane is moving straight (and is not pitching up)
@idunno4022 жыл бұрын
@@angelorondini5835 yeah you can apply both those principles, hence different configurations for planes like canards, delta wings, swept back with the control surfaces being in different places for different purposes etc. Real planes also have insane computers with autopilot. Biggest example being the x-29 nasa plane. That's more a main assembly thing than besiege but you could do it.
@idunno4022 жыл бұрын
@@angelorondini5835 one more thing, perfectly balanced planes don't work in besiege because of a symmetry bug. Planes will tend to very slightly spin in one direction hence making the default autopitch up not that useful in your design.

Piece of advice: water cannons stack, put one of them on ballast, copy it without moving. This way you can save space and mass. If this engine will start gliching, just add more weight to the ballast you put those water cannons on, because: Another piece of advice: Parts get glichy if you put a lot of parts on them, it somehow depends on mass of the part so if you have to put a lot of parts on something, let it be ballast just increase the mass of it. I hope I helped

I don't know how complex the aerodynamics are in besieged but I'm pretty sure the reason why you couldn't take off when you added the panels to the wings with the aerodynamic features turned on, the reason for it was because of the slope of them, when the wind hits that slope, it deflects upwards which in turn pushes that section down, not something you want on the front of the plane.

Really cool! I did notice that your first design never left the ground because you were angling the pitch downward.. not sure if that was user error or on purpose, but either way the end result was nice 👍
@jimwang4282 жыл бұрын
Since he didnt add a wing on the tail, he had to angle it downward as they were on the middle
@Gaaaaaame2 жыл бұрын
@@jimwang428 That is not correct. The pitch direction is dependent on where the center of mass is in relation to the control surface. If a tail is on the very back then it needs to pitch the front of itself down to pitch the craft up, if it is on the front (think canards) then it pitches the front of itself up to pitch up. You can see that the COM of his craft was in front of his elevation surfaces, so he was, in fact, pitching down (this is apparent if you look at what the craft does as soon as he provides his control input)
