10:53 the Yamaha FS-keybeds are indeed great!! The only problem is that they can become “sticky”. I have an SY85 and SY99 that appear as new and everything is working fine, apart from the fact that they suffer from those sticky keys. Have to clean them sometime soon, but the first job is to fix two keys that suddenly stopped working on my Roland V-Synth (my favourite keybed along with the FS-keybeds)! I feel like cleaning the contacts will do the job. I have done this succesfully before with an Arturia Keylab 88 MK1. These videos are really insightful and helpful for people like me who do not have lots of experience apart from the really simple stuff. One other task is to fix the power supply of my tc electronic fireworx. Your video about the - similar - tc electronic device was very helpful to watch as well. I’m continuing to go through your videos and gather some more knowledge how synths work as well as hopefully gaining enough information to do some of the more simple repairs myself. Glad I found your channel and many thanks for the great effort! -Devin

Excellent video! I’ve been working on a DX7 MK1 for a few months now with not much success. It’s just glitchy, buttons don’t work, distorted sound etc. a real mess but I’m loving learning about electronics and these videos are my go to so thanks!

One thing I've noticed is sellers will specify an external power supply for some hardware like an Arturia drum machine but blur out the voltage and current as well as center polarity of the barrel plug.

yeah, that’s because with these three parameters -voltage, amps and plug polarity- you can find way cheaper ones than the one they offer… best is to read in the user manual of the device what power supply is needed, most often they specify it there (but sometimes not… argh)

Excellent video, Reinhard! Hey, do you know if it's possible to get replacement push button switches for the Yamaha RX series drum machines that you featured? I did some searching but gave up in the end.

Know the problem: they are unobtainium... I did fix the buttons of an RX15 once by removing the caps to lay bare the internals and spraying some Deoxit contact spray on the metal contacts. That fixed it.

Hello Reinard, you make great content. Would you know what type of felt is used in my Motif 7? The keys are clacking, so I think it's time to replace it. Cheers from Sweden!

To reduce “clacking” replace the “return”-felt under the keys. See my 01/wpro video where I do this. Replacement felt you can still order with yamaha, use part nr. VQ176100

Ni, that would be the felt on de bottom of the key path, the “aftertouch” felted strip actually. Could be replaced but is a bit more finicky to do
