Where do we find reincarnation in the Bible? How many times might a person reincarnate? And how does reincarnation fit into the greater picture of the afterlife, the world of resurrection, and what happens to a soul after death? Also: does Judaism subscribe to the notion of an eternal hell?
Find out in this class as we dive into Biblical reincarnation and answer the big questions about the transmigration of souls and the afterlife.

You’re next generation is your children and grandchildren and people usually live to see them and some don’t have children at all, that theory of reincarnation doesn’t fit that How is 2-3, generations you live again if you still living??? Reincarnation if exist it’s on absolutely no need to know basic And that scriptures have different explanation much simpler and actually make sense, but I won’t say it here

Exactly. Judaism is not a religion.. Judaism is a profound way to live. Halachah and the extreme rituals created by the Rabbis after the destruction of the Temple are not the essence of Judaism as written in Tanakh or Kabbalah. Rav Efraim is teaching us the WAY of Judaism.... for the beauty of living the LIFE of a JEW. 🎉

Thank you SO MUCH for this message. So comforting to me right now. My close companion of 4 years died very suddely yesterday from a massive stroke and brain bleed. He was taken from me "so suddenly." I believe I was put into his life to lead him to Torah. When we met, he didn't know anything about it, but he died KNOWING YHWH, and believing in the TORAH. I believe he "cleared some past sins" in this life, and has graduated. Perhaps he will reincarnate now at a "higher level." He had a VERY ROUGH LIFE in this incarnation. I PRAY HE DOES BETTER NEXT TIME AROUND. Baruch Hashem, and todah to you, Rabbi. Love your messages.

@@EfraimPalvanov Thank you. I have been reciting the Kaddish Mourner's prayer this week. One question. If everyone gets reincarnated....even the goyim.....how does that line up with Amalek and Esauv being destroyed in "end times?" Would that be the equivalent to the 4 strikes and you're out? Just assuming then that even someone from those tribes could "convert" before the "final battle," and avoid that final judgment? I was just wondering how you could be reincarnated if you were part of those groups? Any light on this matter would be helpful. Again, this message has really blessed me; I listened to it twice, and really look forward to Part 2. Shalom.

No it doesn't contradict Rambam. Secondly, read Aben Ezra and Ramban on the Midrash Shivim Panim L'Toah. The School of R. Ishmael taught: "As a hammer shatters a rock" (Jeremiah 23:29) - Just as a hammer subdivides into many different sparks, so does the biblical verse extend into many different interpretations (Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin 34a).

@@TagMahirTzedek The Babylonian Geonim are our Mesorah for halakha, including the proper methodology to Biblical exegesis and interpretation of Midrash/Agadata. However, as Rambam himself wrote in Moreh Nevukhim, as far as he was aware, authentic Jewish mysticism was lost. A living esoteric mesorah was nowhere to be found besides Sefer Yesira (which Rav Sa'adya wrote a perush on but eventually admitted he didn't understand it), Sifre Hekhalot and shiur Qoma. Rambam rejected these sefarim but Ibn Ezra accepted and Rav Yehudah HaLevi did as well to my knowledge. At least Sefer Yesira. Chakhme Yisrael and Rome MIGHT have carried on an esoteric mesorah and transmitted to the German Rabbanim and eventually the Rabbanim of Provence and the Ra'avad's family, but it's difficult to say with full certainty.

Hi Rabbi! Warm greetings from Brazil 🙂 As a Buddhist, I know about reincarnation very well, as it's the only explanation for all beings' suffering. Although certain details may vary in Buddhism and Judaism, and even other reincarnationist belief systems, the purpose of reincarnation (if you can say that) is basically to right wrongs. Does motivation plays any role in this equation in Judaism? People may do bad things unknowingly or unintentionally and motivation in Buddhist is in the center of everything we do in body, speech and mind (you kind of said that something similar in the past videos, don't quite remember which).

He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. Job 33:18. Lo, all these things works G-d oftentimes (or, two or three times) with man, Job 33:29. It means G-d will save a man from death two or three times, not bring him back from death or the grave two or three times. I don't see that the Hebrew Bible is talking about reincarnation at all. It would be contrary to who G-d is and there is no example of it happening to anyone in the Tanach. Exodus 20: 6, uses generations, not reincarnations. This is Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah), not scripture. Thank you.

What about Kaf Hakela? What about a person who brings others to sin. If after 11 months or 50 days, he is out of hell, but his actions in this world continue to cause people to sin even after decades, so does that mean he does not get punished for the fruit of his sins? Also if a regular rasha gets 11 months, what does somebody like Hitler or Mussulini or Bin Laden or Manis Friedman YM get? Do they both get the same 11 months? Please clarify, Professor Ephraim.. I'm not following your logic... if Hashem judges "middah keneged middah" your calculations are way off. I'm clearly nowhere near as educated as you are, and I admire your knowledge on all the topics you've discussed, and I'm fascinated by the breadth of your Torah knowledge, however I have a hard time following the reasoning you propose in this class, while also undermining notable Kiruv Rabbaim. My pleasure. It is a fundamental principle of Jewish belief that Moses was the greatest prophet of all time, and no one ever matched him in prophecy or divine inspiration. It is also generally held that the age of true prophecy ended shortly after the destruction of the First Temple. Since then, there is "divine inspiration" (Ruach haKodesh) but no genuine prophecy.

In some respects could reincarnation be thought of along similar lines to how a cell divides or how one candle lights many, essentially one is not strictly the same as before yet shares the same root. Also criticism of reincarnation within Judaism should be seen in the context of where critics mostly resided at the time, as reincarnation was largely associated with heterodox or ghulat sects. OTOH how does one reconcile reincarnation in Judaism with say the Ishbitzer's predeterministic perspective on free-will (where an individual can only at best control how they react to situations in life)?

There was a wise man. He was dearly beloved. He was an intellectual and poetic individual. One day he met an Assyrian Prince who recently arrived to Jerusalem from Nineveh. The young man was sitting against the wall on a side street because a lover of his became physically abusive. The wise man saw that he needed help and magically healed his broken nose and ankle. The Assyrian couldn't understand why this man helped him when others he encountered treated him as a heretic. The wise man said, "I knew that I loved you the moment I laid my eyes upon you. I saw that you were in need of help. So I extended my hand out to you." The Assyrian questioned the man and accepted the hand that this man held out. The wise man invited the prince over for dinner but the prince refused to eat. The wise man saw that life was unkind and so he took it upon himself to do what needed to be done for his new friend and student. The wise man taught him the ways of being able to bring to balance the forces within themselves. He taught him the way to navigate the tree of life and at the same time, this wise man wanted to learn from the Assyrian, the mysteries of the Goddess. He was so intrigued by the man he met that he wondered why. They became more than just friends. He saw within the Assyrian an enchanting soul linked to the goddess. The wise man worshipped the ground the goddess walked upon. He began to covet the power of her and one day, he woke up and realized there was something deeply wrong with the world. He made it his mission to teach people what he realized. But the so-called sages didn't want him spreading the truth. IT is because the truth would set a person free. People haven't realized that they've been locked into cycles of reincarnation that has been causing them to get more and more lost in this matrix. The wise man approached the Assyrian and told him that he needed to see the truth, he said, "They will hate you because of me. Remember that you're loved. No matter how hard it gets. Follow the teachings I gave you." So the Assyrian indeed learned the truth about the old sages. This Assyrian man saw they were lying to the people and purposely holding them back from the truth. The Assyrian became an agent for King David. The redemption is here, but who will listen to the truth? When King Solomon heralds the arrival of King David, who will listen?

Here is another ineresting point I found concerning time differences: How Long is Punishment in Gehinom? Time There is Different. If a person goes to the first six levels of Gehinom for whatever sins they've committed, there is a punishment and it's a very serious punishment. But it end at some point It can be a month, it could be 5 thousand years, it could be five million years, but at some point it ends. Remember, time over there is not like time over here. So even if mashiach comes, it doesn't mean that the person, let's say mashiach comes next year, it doesn't mean that a person that goes to gehinom tomorrow is only going to be in gehinom for one year. It doesn't mean that. There's no time over there. Meaning, that moshiach could come next year, but that person went to Gehinom for 50,000 years. Why? Because there's no time there. Here it's a year. Over there could be fifty thousand years. One of the places we learn this in the torah is parashat shelach. What did Hakodesh Baruch Hu say to Am Yisrael? He says: you said something against the land and said lashon hara about the land after going there for forty days. For every one of your days I'm going to count a year. That's a forty year punishment. Forty days trip, one second actual sin, became a forty year punishment. No one from that generation entered Eretz Yisrael. Here we already see that Hakodesh Baruch Hu's time span and clock is very different than ours. A one second sin could be centuries of punishment. I think that’s something to think about also before claiming there is not more then max 12 months of cleaning. If this would be the case people could think ,H‘shem yishmor , „I can do which ever sin I want and get only max 12 month of purgatory. I think that also makes absolutely no sense

The soul’s sentence in Gehinnom is usually limited to a 12-month period of purgation before it takes its place in Olam Ha-Ba (see: Mishnah Eduyot 2:10 and Shabbat 33b). This 12-month limit is reflected in the yearlong mourning cycle and the recitation of the Kaddish (the memorial prayer for the dead). Only the utterly wicked do not ascend to the Garden of Eden at the end of this year. Sources differ on what happens to these souls at the end of their initial time of purgation. Some say that the wicked are utterly destroyed and cease to exist, while others believe in eternal damnation (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Law of Repentance, 3:5-6).
