Superb Overture filled with drama, staggeringly vibrant orchestral colour and atmospheric effect. The spacious Chandos engineering brings out the epic quality of the music perfectly. I love the passage 5:24-7:47 for its restrained panoramic soundscape painting......This upload and the Shakh-Senem Overture make me want to hear both operas in full!!!

The Shah ~Senem is mesmerizing. Early passages are stirring & hypnotic. Trance ~ worthy ⚘️

4:39 is so tremendous, and the whole piece fits right in with the best orchestral music of Rachmaninoff and the Five!

Too bad that the full score isn't available on IMSLP (all separate parts are there, except for the first bassoon); this is one of the most colorful overtures I've ever heard.
