A ton of quality guitar makers in ZA. Even better are the Casimi acoustics ($10k plus), Foster Guitar Works, and the legendary Maingard's (Crosby, Stills and Nash) For Electrics we have DonMeister, Kuun, CM Guitars, Fouche, etc. Roux amp works etc. Great builders, great instruments. That tailpiece and bridge setup is one of the most innovative things I've seen on an acoustic guitar in a long time (on the first one, actually). It's so logical. Get rid of the down pressure on the top to let it vibrate more freely, while still maintaining the down pressure on the saddle.

@@brocluno01 Yeah, I knew what was going on the first time I saw it on his first one. I've built seven electric guitars, but no acoustics. If I ever do, I'm gonna do something like that.
@funkla65
@funkla65 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if I'm interpreting correctly what I'm seeing, the neck extends all the way to the tailpiece, so the neck is basically bearing the brunt of the string tension. That's way more durable than the typical acoustic with a sound hole cut in the middle of the box which is bearing the tension. This not only sounds great but it should hold up well over time.
@midi510
@midi510 3 жыл бұрын
@@funkla65 I have a McPherson, which moves the hole out of the middle of the guitar and has a cantilevered fretboard, so the soundboard it more uninhibited than most guitars, but there's still all that tweaking at the bridge. It has amazing volume and sustain, but I'd like to hear it with this type of bridge. Of course the tailpiece stresses would still be spread through the body rather than the neck, but it should allow the top to vibrate ore freely.

My Opinion, the new model sounds more round and in keeping with a normal flat top, I agree about the bass end there as well. The earlier model had a slight resonator tone to it I thought, though similar as you mention, I could still hear a resonator feel to it and I makes me think how great the earlier design would be if it were to have a resonator fixture or plate, whatever you call that, mounted in it. It has the rounded body part that would be perfect to add that and perhaps that could be an answer for the earlier design since the newer design has the better, bigger, acoustic sound. Just my opinion, don't know if you heard the hint of resonator in the earlier model in comparison or not but I'm sure you would agree that could be an interesting answer for that particular design. It's almost begging for it if you ask me.

WOW to me they also sound very different! The banjo looking guitar is much more heavy sounding and at the sam e time very responsive. I could hear the small runs and accents much better on the original Smooth Talker. The more traditional looking Smooth Talker is a very measured and even sounding instrument. The both are at the very top of what I think an acoustic-electric guitar can achieve and I love them! I am almost afraid to find out what they cost, but I am going to go to their site and look into them a bit more. One thing I worry about is, given the modular design, how they would hold up on the road. I sure hop[e a few famous guitar players pick thee up and review them after being around the world with them. Thank you, Justin for showing these to your viewers and really giving them a workout! You are a very gifted musician and communicator, can you sing as well? Obviously he's an incredible guitarist, and obviously it's cork sniffing to listen through KZbin, but by God that sounds great.

Damn fine guitars, love the look of both but most of all, love the sound! What really gets me is that every time you play something you get that sound that gives me goosebumps. As good as the guitars may be, I'd make them sound very average ;) But you're rocking it as usual.

If there was a positive side to those Covid period is that Justin did some really fantastic videos Not only a in depth review of these guitars but also demonstrated the playability with his truly amazing skills.This makes him more than just a video blogger this makes him a real one of a kind you tube influencer. Thx Justin you made my day. For those who didn't by the last CD...... DO IT.

Such a great thing to watch and listen to you play a guitar Justin. I also noticed, you didn’t even tune the guitar before playing. Amazing
