Being right and wrong isn't always a binary thing. Order of Operations (BEDMAS, PERMDAS, etc.) are about executing math consistently. If you have forgotten that multiplication and division (or addition and subtraction) are actually the same operation, it's less wrong to say you always need to do one before the other. It's much more wrong to ignore the order of operations, and get five when the answer is 15.

I use tricks to evaluate multiplications by 9 and 11, because they are both one number away from 10, and multiplying by 10 is the easiest thing to do. So for 9s, anything multiplied by 9 is equal to that number multipled by 10 minus that number (e.g. 7 x 9 = 7 x 10 - 7 = 63), and for 11s instead of subtracting, I add that number (e.g. 7 x 11 = 7 x 10 + 7 = 77).
