Instead, I went to Northern Illinois University and changed my major to teaching visually impaired kids. I moved to Florida, got a job right away, AND married a visually impaired man. It hurts to be rejected, especially after you told family band friends. They will tease you every chance they get. You are trying to forget but someone bring it up again. You laugh but you are tired of hearing it. Good advice Shane…don’t say anything until the contract is signed. Do you have a fan club or does that happen any more?

My rejection…I wanted to be a cheerleader for our community peewee football team. We were young. The peewee team was supported by the local Catholic Church. The cheerleaders were “No cuts”. If you wanted to cheer, you could. We still went through tryouts to see who would be in the front, the back…Well, at the end of the day, they said they changed the criteria for cheerleaders from no cuts to you have to make it. Every single girl who was there that day made it, except me. I was the only one who did not make it. The. Only. One.

8th grade, New school in Baltimore, old school in Georgia, originally from Texas. Needless to say Baltimore had hostile issues with my accent. I auditioned for a role in the Christmas play, A Christmas Carol. I was 13, & already 5'9". Being a tall, thin, girl, who "talked funny", I was given the role of the Ghost of Christmas Future. No lines, an extra long hooded robe that covered me completely. Even my face, so no one could tell I was a girl. I climbed a ladder to a platform, stood there, silent & covered, & pointed a droopy finger at nothing. The southern girl inme wanted to wag that droopy finger in admonition Someone off stage read my lines. With what sounded to me like an accent. Southern girl wanted to tap dance back to the ladder to get down. That was the first & last time I tried out for anything. Much to the frustration of the girls basketball coach!

When I was in 6th grade I tried out to be a cheerleader for the basketball team. I was sure I would get it bc I was a cheerleader the year before so I was a Shoe-in. Alas, I was not chosen and my heart was completely broken. (Still kind of stings).

I watched ordinary Joe the other night and I had forgotten that you said you guys were on it. When you said you were in the background or something I thought you were just in the background but you weren’t you actually had an upfront part at this disability program or whatever but it was amazing to see you guys there because I love ordinary Joe

I still have my problems, but I picked out better jobs and friends. now I am a Homemaker, No one can bully me now, I make my own schedule. Plus I go over to help out my mom and grandma two days a week to do their house work and spend time together with them.

Not really comparable but... Peter Horning, if you're out there... 7th grade school dance I asked you if you wanted to dance with me, and you gave me a flat out "no." You've won the award for most prominent rejection memory. 👏🏆 You missed out 😘 Ps I love knowing some publisher out there has to live with the regret of passing on the opportunity to sign Shane as an author.
