Such an underrated song from an overlooked classic album. They were pretty much one of the most interesting young bands around by 1982 It was a straight and short way to the top (Joshua Tree /R&H/ Achtung Baby) starting with War in 1983

I've seen U2 many times since the War tour in 2003 and I have to say that I still believe that WAR is their best album: Its simply awesome. To describe it as "amateurish" is utterly ridiculous. Anyone who calls themselves a U2 fan really should have it in their collection.

t's falling, it's falling And outside a building comes tumbling down And inside a child on the ground Says he'll do it again And what am I to do? What in the world am I to say? There's nothing else to do He says he'll change the world someday I rejoice This morning I fell out of bed When I woke up to what he had said Everything's crazy but I'm too lazy to lie And what am I to do? Just tell me what am I supposed to say? I can't change the world But I can change the world in me I rejoice, oh Rejoice And what am I to do? Just tell me what am I supposed to say? I can't change the world But I can change the world in me If I rejoice I don't know, no judging Rejoice, and I won't stop the world Rejoice Rejoice Rejoice

Never heard of a Gibson Sonex. I thought he recorded the studio version with a Strat.
@NikFarr2 жыл бұрын
@@johndrake2729 Sorry, I'm gonna get guitar nerdy on you here... In the last few years since I posted that comment, I've done some research on this. There seem to be two trains of thought about the Sonex: The first holds that Edge borrowed or rented this guitar for this performance (and a few others around the time where he was photographed playing it). The second idea is that he picked it up on tour as a less-expensive way to see if he could get along with a Les Paul. Shortly after this, he bought the white LP that would feature heavily on the "War" album, and which he would play for the next ~30 years (until he auctioned it off to raise funds for musicians who lost instruments during Hurricane Katrina). Either one is a fairly logical assumption, since you won't see any videos or pictures of him performing on a Sonex outside of a specific period in 1982. It seemed to appear out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly. I doubt very much that he played it in the studio; if he wanted that humbucker sound in 1981 when the "October" album was recorded, he probably would have just reached for his Explorer. That version doesn't sound at all like a Strat to me, though I could be wrong--some of Edge's Strat tones sound as full as a Les Paul, especially in the "October" era, so it's certainly debatable. Apologies for all the unsolicited information. I just... do that sometimes.
@johndrake27292 жыл бұрын
@@NikFarr I read somewhere that he recorded the "October" album mostly with the Strat.
@NikFarr2 жыл бұрын
@@johndrake2729 That scans to me, since he played the Strat live when performing most of the songs from the album. I think the Explorer was only used on a couple of tunes.

I agree with the people that say U2 have only gotten worse. I like them up until AB. Zooropa had its moments, after that it gets from bad to worse. the last 3 records sees them a pale shadow of their former self. There's nothing amateurish about their early stuff, they'd been playing 6 years by the time this show was played and in fact their early stuff is more complex, just different style thats all. The edge was a far more inventive and interesting player from boy up to JT than he was later on
