Relapse is easily Eminem's most underrated album. Since the release of the follow-up album, Recovery, a cult following has slowly built behind Relapse, as it serves as the final stand of the old school Slim Shady. However, what people fail to realize is that Relapse had a planned sequel, Relapse 2, which was cancelled for various reasons. Relapse was an album that I absolutely hated when I first heard it. I thought the album was dog shit other than Crack a Bottle and Insane. Then, I watched the Slim Shady Retrospective about Relapse, and learned that all the tracks were produced by Dre, so I went back and relistened to it, and absolutely fell in love with Hello, Same Song and Dance, We Made You, Stay Wide Awake, Old Times Sake, Deja Vu and Underground. It's the last Shady album, and it's honestly fucking great.

It's far from a "bad album" but definitely a bad "eminem album". It's easily the weakest (apart from revival) in his discography because although it did have a few great songs, it was plagued with lame uninspiring filler tracks like "fack" and "big weenie"...etc. it is what it is..

One of the most unique songs on Relapse is Drop The Bomb On Em. Believe me I know he has written a lot of braggadocious music in his career, but something about his lyrics and beat choice. The problem with Recovery is that Eminem started becoming everything he was against. His music was extremely pop. Like "Love The Way You Lie" and "I Wont Back Down". From there on he was never the same. And now he makes songs with Ed Sheeran. He became everything he hated and it's sad.

Great video. I wish Relapse 2 actually saw the light of day as I really enjoy Relapse. I know that many people enjoy it and it would have been nice to have the second part to Relapse we were promised prior to the release of Relapse. I will say that I’m someone who actually enjoys Encore, ever since I got it back in 2004. I know he was high on practically the whole album, but Eminem’s album where he’s practically high the whole time is better than some people who sing or rap when they’re high. The album needed to be reworked due to it being leaked prior to its November release, but I think it’s pretty good considering the circumstances. I think the structure was also quite a bit of a change as the comedic songs on Encore are all in the middle of the album, whereas the comedic songs before they were spread out between serious songs on his previous albums. It was a bit more apparent as to where the comedic tone songs were as the serious songs were at the book ends of the album. I find Encore has a lot of replay value, but that’s just me. Again, excellent video.

It took me a long time to appreciate relapse, but it’s a pretty great album. If you listen to the songs eminem was doing from 2006-2007 unreleased and released you’d see how much he improved and how much relapse was a breath of fresh air for his career. Relapse saw the return to form so to speak for Eminem and recovery was the icing on the cake that not only saw Eminem at top top shape, but making music with actual meaning.

Salami Sandwich Relapse is a better album, but the MMLP2 deserves credit solely for having “Bad Guy” on it

undertakerpitt Relapse definitely sounds more like old Em, but MMLP2 has more intricate rhyme schemes and overall better content. It’s a tough call, but for now I say MMLP2 > Relapse

@@salamisandwich3334 i know I'm late, but I just wanted to say that on mmlp2 he wasn't necessarily trying to sound like his old self. You see, the concept of mmlp2 is showing how he has aged since mmlp and how some of his opinions on some things he talked about on mmlp have changed, but how some have still stayed the same. The thing which he did with his voice on mmlp2 is basically having the voice stay hard to show how it has changed because he aged and I'm guessing because of the drug use, but also having the same old aggression which he had on mmlp and even highering his voice at certain parts where he is referencing mmlp or acting jerky like he did on mmlp. He did the same thing on mmlp2 photoshoots, he looked older, I mean like his face, he looked more serious and had wrinkles, but he brought back the blonde hair to show how he can still go back to his old style.

on a level, i personally thought relapse was dope i liked the dark pshyco and drug theme i thougjt it was sinister id of loved relapse 2 but thank the heavens for recovery
