At one time, Russia was likely America's biggest ally on earth. During the Civil War in the 1860s, Britain got mad that trade was being disrupted, and it looked like they might intervene on behalf of the Confederacy. Then, without really telling Lincoln in advance, 12 Russian warships showed up on America's coasts and informed US officials thst they were under orders to help guard the ports and immediately enter combat under the direct command of Lincoln if the British declared war (or simply attacked). The American public was dumbfounded, then cried out "God bless the Russians!" (God Save the Tsar was performed by several orchestral groups). Alexander II's move worked, and the British backed down. Simply put, the Russian Empire may have helped save the entire United States of America. That is the friend we lost in 1917. I teared up when I first read the story. Communism can go to hell for all eternity.

Жаль что такое добропорядочное отношение было утрачено.
