While the contract stuff is kinda weird, every relationship should have an agreement on what they expect out of the relationship. Things like boundaries, minimum dates per week, etc can go a long way to sustain a relationship.

People laugh, but I made a roommate agreement back in the 90s when I had 3 roommates. It wasn't as long or as 'legalese' as Sheldon's, but I did it because I didn't want arguments or people taking advantage of others. It was mainly about chores, what dates to pay the bills, not allowing friends to eat other roommates' food, and not inviting too many people over to the point of creating a party that would get the cops called on us. Everyone obliged, and we got along pretty well because it put a stop to, in advance, any nonsense or 'I didn't know' excuses.

A relationship agreement is actually a good idea because it allows both people to articulate, discuss and agree along the most important boundaries and principles. The signing forces someone to commit to the agreement unless they want to break a rule or clause, and that would cause trouble.

It's a good chunk of time he would miss, considering the drive-time. Also, while it is a 48h marathon, it really isn't 48h hours, since there are sleep breaks. Also, back in the day, I always found it awkward if friends had different commitments during LAN parties. Had a friend who once dropped his PC off and then went to an event afterwards, intended to come back during the night. Not only did he miss like 60% of the entire marathon, it was also kind of weird to have one empty PC standing around for the whole night.

It's obvious Sheldon didn't originally love Amy. He got in the relationship because of her and his friends forcing him to. The fact he never actually does any sort of romantic or loving thing with her should be proof enough, but he's unable to explain to her in his own words why he wants her around. He merely used the spiderman monolog to secure a ride home, not the girl. Over time he did fall for her, you can tell because he does start to do romantic things with her... But it's kind of sad and really sick that this was forced on him. That he didn't get to choose a life partner he wanted, nor a choice in a wanted companionship.

That is actually not quite accurate. Of course Sheldon didn't want a girlfriend at the beginning - he exclaimed that more than enough. He only admitted her being his girlfriend after he got jealous. True, he didn't like any kind of "romantic things", but that wasn't because he didn't like her. Sheldon really just didn't like the conventional way of dating.

I see you point in a way, but I honestly can’t imagine a better mate for Sheldon than Amy. No one else would have put up with his quirkiness quite like she did. She had to wait years just to touch him, never mind sleep with him. She put up with so much, yet she stayed. That was amazing.

@ottokarl5427 It is accurate. He does not want a girlfriend. He made countless statements to Amy that he didn't want to advance their friendship because SHE WAS BARELY A FRIEND. SHE kept pressuring him. SHE kept trying to force him out of his comfort zone for herself. She literally forced him to be with her. He never actually willingly move forward in any part of their relationship. Even when he ran to go propose it was literally because he understood he didn't like other women because he knew Amy was desperate enough to do everything he wanted and it was a total win for him.
