Thanks. You're right, many researcher enjoy playing with stats to make the numbers and ratios more exciting

OUTSTANDING information!

I think what needs to be considered too is that the relative benefit in the studies is for a fixed limited time frame. If you multiply that benefit over many more years, even decades, the total benefit becomes a lot greater. So, taking Lipitor for 20-30 years may prove to be quite beneficial.

Awesome video! I am a medical student and this knowledge will help me investigate whether a treatment is actually beneficial or not! And off course it will help me explain it comprehensively to my future patients! Everyone should know this. Thanks for sharing.

This is brilliant - No music AND includes NNT - Just excellent !

Thanks, John. Not adding music to videos is actually one of my superpowers, along with not preparing for speeches and not doing my taxes on time. NNT is just the icing on the cake.

Hi thanks for the video can I just clarify the relative difference you talk about is attributable risk not strictly relative risk? Relative risk is: risk in exposed/ risk in non-exposed. Attributable risk is Absolute risk reduction/risk in non-exposed which is what you have done in your calculations. Just for anyone trying to calculate relative risk for exams etc it may be confusing? Feel free to point out if I am wrong however.

Love your explanation of this most important topic. Have you thought about doing a video about this using the Covid vaccine numbers? Now that would be helpful!

This is a very irresponsible video. So much information left out on purpose or out of ignorance. People could refrain from taking statins due to your example. You failed to clarify the difference between using statins for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, and death, cause statins are typically not used for primary prevention. Also, treatment guidelines categorized people into risk groups for CVD based on their LDL, cholesterol levels, risk factors, including family history, and whether they have CVD and CVA or not. Not everything on the internet, including youtube, is correct. People, please beware.

Sine Qua Non, 99% of people could easily prevent and reverse the issues with a whole food plant based diet in the first place. Perhaps sharing this information supports the reason why heart disease is still the number one killer. The system is broken!

I agree

mmmm.....99% of people CAN'T reverse chronic disease they have with JUST lifestyle management. YES, I'm a big proponent of it and tell ALL my patients lifestyle changes FIRST, but some people have genetic (familial hypercholesteremia) in which no matter what they eat, they jsut have genetically SUPERHIGH levels of cholesterol, putting them at risk for heart attacks and strokes - medication is needed in this case.

This video is about the difference between RRR and ARR. Its 100% correct. The Number Needed to Treat is a valuable statistic... and he does the best job of anyone making the presentation simple and easy to understand. I give this video 5 stars.

Disagree - this technique of using Relative risk is used by pharma to convince people that COVID-19 vaccines are ">90% effective" This video is correct in it's analysis , unless you disagree. That's all that matters.
