That's exactly how I felt after a perm, but in a hair sarlon. My hair just broke off. And they weren't dyed or anything, they just broke. And just before the wedding. Back then my hair was waist-deep, after that it was really short. My first husband wanted perms for our wedding, my regular hairdresser was against it, his hairdresser implemented it. I ended up Sunday mornings at 7 a.m. with my regular hairdresser, who tried to save what could be saved and preached to a curtain... My advice: if the man thinks your natural hair sucks, you should think the man sucks. Would have saved me a lot of suffering

She admits her mistakes at the end and accepts the situation for what it is. And even with the depression she mentions, she still holds it together for her kids and realizes the consequences of letting them see her in freak out mode over this. That is a strong AF woman. When I was a teen I got a flat iron and fried my hair daily for at least a decade because I thought I had "bad hair". I relapsed and then chose to recover and get it together. Part of relapse for me is that I just don’t give myself love or my hair love. When I decided to crawl out from the bottom of a bottle, I started with a shower, I could not stand touching my hair as it broke off (I am black). So I hopped out of the shower and just started cutting. I buzzed my hair off. The last time I did that was two years ago, before I got sober. For me, it’s kind of a reminder and a way to gain control of myself. A do-over. I want long hair and I loved it when I was sober and I took care of it. This, is a reminder for me. Just a story.

So true about the emotional connection and hair. When it goes well, it can give a little positive buzz, controlling something in your life when it feels like it's out of control. Second girl suffered from post partum depression for a year and she doesn't want her hair to be a reason for her to feel shitty. Black women know their beauty and how to embrace our natural hair (without relaxer) but sometimes the hair tends to be challenging, especially when you're a busy person like a mom or someone that doesn't have time to take care of the hair properly... you're just looking for a simpler way to deal with it on a daily basis. Relaxer are a danger but so are many other products and I'm glad people are more and more educated on the subject !

As such, you should most definitely speak to this subject, not as a healthcare professional, but as a compassionate person who cares about what is going on under the hair at least as much as you care about the hair processes in general. Thank you for reacting with empathy for what these women are experiencing and not with crass quips or laughter at their mistakes and hair damage. (Not that you ever would!!) Thanks Hair Buddha for spreading awareness and great advice! I felt extremely sad 😔 😢for both of them! The positive thing is it will all grow back and they will not make the same mistake again. Love the new lamp with tassels by the way ❤

On the bright side, her head has a lovely shape and she’s very pretty. She’ll be quite striking once she’s shaved her head.

This happened to me post-college. I had virgin brown hair with bleached highlights down almost to my waist. I was tired of straightening my naturally curly hair every day. I bought a relaxer online and failed to read “do not use on bleached hair.” All the highlights and the last several inches of my hair was fried - like wet tissue paper. Went to the salon and had 8-10 inches cut off my hair. It was devastating. Although I did rock a chin-length curly bob for several months. Aphogee, deep conditioning with a heat cap and Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream brought my hair back to life.

African people have beautiful hair, I think it’s so sad that they are under lots of pressure to straighten their hair. Let me tell you that I LOVE YOUR NATURAL CURLS❤

Yay! We're spoiled with another video 💚 I went from my natural hair colour (red) to pitch black as a teenager. I bought a relaxer home for my hair and my mom said no 🤣😒

This guy is so compassionate. It’s impressive. I have zero sympathy for people who have access to all the information right there at their fingertips but they’re willfully ignorant and proudly PROCEED without informing themselves at all first. Then say, “this is how LIFE is gonna do me?”. No. YOU did you.

As someone with a super long hair, I recently bleached to take off some old hair dye and was so scared because more than half a year ago I had a permanent straightening, I can not imagine trying it at the same time, already sounds like a bad idea. I dyed it black and blue and it’s fine but I know now I cannot do much more than hair dye to it, once it gets super long you really don’t want to mess with it
