Hey Cece maybe consider going to a stylist to get them to do your relaxers since they can get in there and see where you can’t. Also it may help keep your hair healthy by keeping your relaxer professionally maintained.

I thought about it, but I don't want my hair bone straight and I feel like that will happen.

I get that, because I don’t like bone straight either. Find a stylist that actually has a consultation with you. The one I’m using has been great and he listens to what I want while focusing on hair health. I went back to relaxing last June on my own. Then in December I had it professionally done by him. He left me enough texture like I asked, and gave me a good cut because I hadn’t trimmed in years while I was natural. He cut at least 2-3 inches, maybe more and my hair was right above where my bra fastened. My hair is flourishing!! I just got a retouch this past Saturday-14 weeks, and it has passed my bra, including the trim I asked him to do. I’m able to stretch longer, but it’s key not to stretch too long. You have to learn how long your hair can withstand without damaging it.

Hey CeCe You did a great job. I was texlaxed for at least 2 years before I big chopped but I didn’t learn my hair until I started actually wearing my natural hair out for long stretches of time the last 2 years. I learned that the kinkiest area of my hair is the front crown area of my head. This is always where you want to start applying the relaxer. The sides and back are a totally different (looser) texture and will get straight faster. Your kinky areas may be different but you get the idea. And yes you should open the twists and apply between them to get a better result

I've been both natural and relaxed equally 15yrs currently relaxed. You have to allow time to relearn what your hair likes in it's current state. The key is always deep conditioning with Moisture based products, Heavy protein only monthly. I moisturize and seal every 3 days. I relax when my hair is unmanageable in a sense the 2 textures tangle for me thats every 16-20 weeks. But if my next stretch she needs it sooner i do. Just listen to your hair. Also to much manipulation & heat is a no no. Set your style so you only manipulate once or twice a week. Heat no more than twice a month. I learned my hair is Fine, low density either way But high porosity when relaxed so i have to moisturize often. I used to get away with neglect natural but my hair always took hours and days. I'm 40 & no desire to struggle with my hair. Also stylist tend to be rough and cut what they like so my fiance trims my hair now bra length but definitely get a stylist to start a good foundation

Thanks for all the tips! There's so much that I'm still learning and I'm enjoying the process.

Hey CC, You did a good job girly. We have similar natural hair textures and i would suggest that you continue to use small sections but unravel the twists so that you can smooth the relaxer through your roots/new growth. As for timing i think 20mins is fine even though for our natural texture you could go and extra 5-10 mins (but i wouldn't) just because you were natural for so long that now you need to learn your hair all over again when it comes to a chemical. Its going to react differently than it did when you were relaxing years ago. My last relaxer was back in 2013 so we were natural for about the same amount of years so i understand the manageability of it all lol

You would have been a great candidate for a smoothing treatment or keratin. Also you need to use more relaxer and comb the relaxer through. At this point you need a corrective.

I tried the keratin before. It took my hair out. I have to figure out my next move with this relaxer though.
