This is why Magnus is the best. He knows it's a dead draw but a single inaccuracy can mess it up all, so he just plays on till the very end, waiting for the opponent to make a blunder

i watched so many chess games and a lot of the top guys make a critical mistake in the end game sometimes , Magnus hardly ever does

Yes, they do because titled players spend most of their time memorizing openings so they can regurgitate them otb. A lot of hypocrisy coming from these titled players.

If a gm doesn't know something basic about chess, then i doubt its even "basic"
@Bennerboi6 ай бұрын
@@happy_labs I think he means basic as in an endgame with only a few pieces left that are well-documented in theoretical endgame books. I had a similar endgame with the h- and f-pawn (this is known to be a draw even without the b-pawn as Mamedyarov had!) where the same variation could have arisen and my opponent also made the mistake of standing behind the h-pawn with the rook instead of swinging over to the long side for the checks. I instantly recognized the position and I have a FM friend who had his opponent comfortably hold the defense in this. The positions are discussed in 100 Endgames You Must Know, so it is definitely not impossible to know and some untitled players know it. I am surprised that Mamedyarov failed to find the moves. I am sure he knew 100% that it was holding, hence why he even gave up the pawn to begin with.

You could have explained the very last end: why is it winning: if black plays rook a8, then: Re8 Ra6 check, Ke5 Ra5 check etc.. and white King goes near the black Rook so no more check and either black Rook is taken or f8 Queen but not so simple... (for me anyway!!)
