My mother passed away a few years ago and my mother-in-law in Ireland passed away this year, so I want to do something like this for a lady in our neighborhood that’s much older and lives alone and doesn’t see her family very much. Thank you for always having such beautiful ideas I can share with people.

My oldest had skin allergies when he was a child and the doctors recommended oat baths! It was very expensive and such a small batch for us a young military couple and today I marvel that I never thought to make it. Many mothers need these recipes and old remedies! You are so right saying that making these self-care products is self-care in itself! Just the process of melting and mixing and infusing ingredients is soothing. That’s probably also why I relax so well when I’m baking. I’ve just made a vegan silken tofu cheesecake with leftover stale crackers I wanted to use up and I can’t wait to savour it when I come home from work tomorrow :)

Hello again! I love to make my own body scrubs for use in the shower. The recipe is very simple: one part brown sugar, one part cane sugar or white sugar, and a light carrier oil to hold everything together. My favorite oils to use for my scrubs are grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, and apricot kernel oil. I write down my recipes and refer to them when I'm ready to make another batch. Sometimes I will replace one if the sugars with epsom salt or sea salt either for occasion or if my body is really sore from the two jobs I work. Sometimes I'll even use my scrub for my feet after soaking them. It's a luxurious way of taking care of myself!
@FairylandCottage4 жыл бұрын

Thanks for some new projects for those of us who are facing weeks of isolation in our homes. It is always helpful to have a new thing to do each day so that we can keep on the brighter side of life, and create things that we can give to people. These are challenging times, and through creating we can support healthy rhythm, caring for ourselves, and caring for others. I can also share these ideas with some of my older students who will need this kind of self and other care to keep them from spending too much time on their devices. Keep well, everyone!

Coffe grinds scrub is the best body scrub ever ! Never had that silky skin with any other product 💖 i use it on its own or add a little oil. The most heavenly scented (but not as efficient ) was brown sugar with coconut oil. I tried oat/powdered milk bath but didnt feel any soothing on my atopic skin sadly. Plus it swelled a bit weird. I wish i had a nice bushy eucalyptus to use in the bathroom too ! I tried the chickpea flour nopoo the other day and it seems promising. I need to practice more with it because i have very thick hair and it can be difficult to bring it to the roots. But it was surprisingly easy to rince ! Lovely present from someone who cares 💖

I love making my own products and I couldn't agree more that they are incredibly enjoyable making as well as using. Very well said! Right now I'm taking a label off a jar to make Vapor Rub with essential oils and shea butter. As far as products I use regularly I use the body cream that you did a video on and I make a hair rinse with hearts from the garden and homemade apple cider vinegar, which is also a video you did. Then I have a sugar scrub as well. Great idea to use leftover coffee grounds. I will do that in the future.

Lovely. I have not made any self care item in quite a long time, so I have to thank the KZbin recommendations for this. I'll try the bathsalt mixture on Friday. I don't have any dry flowers so it'll just be plain, smell-wise. As for the candles, I've been keeping the wax for a bit and need to order the little sticks so that I can make new candles, but that'll have to wait a bit.

Such lovely ideas, Niamh! I will try these for sure! I always look forward to seeing your lovely Sunday videos. With everything going on, I think it would be so helpful to see a video with standard pantry/emergency items, a reminder of cleaning naturally with products please. Seeing empty aisle after aisle, store after store for days on end is pretty jarring. Thank you for this wonderful, calm video. Blessings, M

I make a lot of bath soaks similar to this. It can be horrible for your plumbing to let it go down the drain though, even if it's it's blended. I usually add everything to my mortar and pestle and gently bruise it then add to a reusable cloth bag and tie tight.

Talking about self-care products- one of my favs is adding lavender oil to liqiud soap- but make sure that you buy a high quality plant oil based soap. Adding lavender doesn´t only increase the scent but its desinfectant potential. It might be more useful to wash your hands with it than spilling tons of desinfectants to fight corona.
