Think of those blue metal film resistors as "the great equalizers" - I'm not color-blind, and I cannot read them for the life of me. Have to get out the meter. Thanks Mr. O'Stuff, enjoyed this one quite a bit.

I was yelling at the screen regarding the error on the 20k resister, i could see the mismatch in colours from here...glad you eventually found it, good job. Pretty messy signal generation though, i wonder if anything could be added to improve the signals.

Nice kit. The noise is from the probe not being grounded properly. Don't forget that the outside metal part of the BNC plugs are not ground. 👍 I bet if you used a BNC to BNC cable you would get a good signal.

I have that exact cable on order already.

I like the the time lapse camera. Turned out well! Maybe it can be adjusted so the board is not at the bottom of the frame?

Yeah, it's still a bit of a work in progress. Glad to see it's smooth enough to use now, though.

@@pileofstuff Yeah. It makes great timelapses. It is just a positioning thing.

Tips are always a personal preference. My one bugbear is people using hopelessly dirty tips on their irons and wondering why their soldering (the L is not silent or another D, lol) totally sucks. Keep your iron tip clean folks and it will do its job properly. A clean and properly tinned tip is an efficient tip. I have a different version of this that features a QFP ATmega328P on it. Since there was quite a bit of code space left inside, I found the firmware source code online and added a stairstep waveform to it as well. Incidentally, it also features a single power supply input as the various voltages are created within the circuit.

I was going to say that a 8bit r2r ladder should give 256 different voltage levels. And you just shown that inject two much current from one pin and the steps go out the window.😂
@SpeccyMan2 ай бұрын
... too much current ...
@TheEmbeddedHobbyist2 ай бұрын
@@SpeccyMan each pin can go between 0 and 5V. so each pin going to 5V injects some current in to the ladder. it's position on the ladder affects the weighting or amount of current injected. so using a much lower value to one resistor means that way too much current is injected in to the ladder swamping all the pins below it.

Thanks for posting. Glad you found your mistake. I use this rule if I get tired I walk away. I use a soldering microscope it helps I only have one working eye. So fatigue sets in quick. I noticed a lot of what I call signal bounce. Any ideas on how to reduce or eliminate? My JYE Tech signal generator does the same thing on my Hantek DSO. Would you say this is generally found on DDS generators?
@pileofstuff2 ай бұрын
Not sure. I don't have a lot of other experience with DDS generators.

Anyone who tells you you are wrong for liking a particular tip needs to just stay off the computer ...... I may have mentioned this before, but I use to repair satellite modems ffor Thaicom / IPStar. When I first started, Thaicom sent techs out to train me and they were replacing surface mount chips on the modem boards with the chunkiest tips I have seen on a smaller iron. No tweezers, no hot air. Just a chunky tip and they never birdged a pin. It comes down to what you like using and what works for you. No one can say right or wrong, if it works, then it is right for you.

Definitely you need to debug the kit. Should work well because while ago I put together exactly the same kit and works really nice. Maybe the power supply you are using is not good this is the video when I built this kit kzbin.info/www/bejne/baPKiq2cactpaZIsi=TZLDRLI0GeNvdaAd
