Damiano Andreoni its not parameters that are the problem, its possible parasites and things like ( for freshwater ) hydra/planaria eggs or larvae

@nate bag Yes it is possible as both tire track eels and fire eels are related and extremely similar. A friend of my has a tire track eel and ghost knife fish and he hand feeds both at the same time. Just make sure the eel isn't to small
@jamesharvey77938 жыл бұрын
I guess you have a hood, because eels are escape artists and will get out. I had a 50cm eel that managed to get out of a virtually air tight setup:)

thank you for this vid, I saw a medium 8 inch Eel at the fish store & have a African cichlids Tanganyka, 2 silver dollars & 1 Texas cichlid, want to add a eel but still hesitant.

+blah blah lima just keep in mind that eels need a lot of hiding space but they make amazing pets and once taught to eat from your hands , it be comes quite a party trick
@thefishylife68236 жыл бұрын
You did everything right but at the end you dumped the fish store water in your tank, after you acclimate always net the fish and remove the old water still in bag it can and allways does contain pollutants you don't want in your tank... just a suggestion ✌️ very cool eel!!

Once the fire eel reaches maturity (usually 24 inches long) fish that are 3 inches or smaller may get eaten. Fire eels mouths are pretty small. Mainly a diet of frozen blood worms, earthworms and ghost shrimp are what most feed them. The Cichlids in his tank should be fine. Cichlids grow pretty fast. The Mbuna maybe a problem here only because they’re rock dwellers and can get very aggressive to invaders. Fire eels are rock dwellers as well and are known to bury themselves and sand. So the actual problem makers may actually be the Cichlids (Mbuna) and not the fire eel. I love how people always comment about something even though they know completely nothing about subject. God I love the internet!

How is your fire eel doing? I recently got one about a month in half ago. and it is very hard to get it to eat. Only time i ever get the eel to eat is when i put ghost shrimp in the tank then he goes crazy. but turns everything else down I have tried dozens of different types of food. from blood worms night crawlers brine shrimp bottem feeding pellets and alot more. Everyone once in a while the eel does come out and look around for little particles of food but I feel like it is not enough for the fire eel. He is about 38 Cm long. idk what else to do to make him more of a lively eater.

Hey Sky McCullough How often are you adding your tank water and what conditions are the fish you buying being kept in? So low ph and your tank has a high ph it can be a massive shock to the fish. The best thing I find is to try and balance my new fish to my water I even have a separate tank to equalize my new fish. I always ask what ph lvl the fish are used to.also check your water quality vs your fish suppliers water. A quick heads up your fire eel might not eat for 2 days to sometimes as long as a month. Good luck and please don't try and feed your fire eel pellets it's not that good for them stick to feeder fish or blood worms etc. interesting combo of fish you have there. Sorry for the late answer I was out of the country

how did this go? i wanna have two 130 gallon african cichlid tanks. one with mbuna and tangiyikan and the other with haps and peacocks, and i want one or two bichirs and a fire eel in one of them. which would they do better in!
@chabka347 жыл бұрын
it's widely excepted that adding a fish this way dose more harm than good it's better just to match the temp and add the fish

Hey Jesse I don't see why. My fire eel has shown no aggression towards any of my fish. Fire eel will run before they fight so make sure you have a canopy. How big is your tank might make a difference as well. Thanks for the comment hope I helped. But I don't see them fighting
@msart5375 Жыл бұрын
The eel doesn't need that high of a ph. Curious to know why your tank is at 8.2 instead of 7.2 to 7.5. The will still thrive. Good luck with the eel. They almost always die

Hi. is it possible if you can give me some tips on how to care for a tire track eel. I have been thinking about getting one but I don't know what size thank they like and the food they like to.(are you Afrikaans) thanks
@damzdna32478 жыл бұрын
+Rune Creed I understand Afrikaans , they very easy to look after , BIGGEST WORRIES ARE : unprotected heaters ammonia can burn them as they are scale less but fire eels have such amazing personalities where tire tracks are more jumpy and take more to trust you

quarantining your fish instead of adding them directly is a better practice, in my opinion.
@damzdna32477 жыл бұрын
I complete agree but I knew where the fish was coming from , so I decide not to quarantine as I knew the fish 100% . but yes from a normal pet shop , you are 100% correct .
@ahmadechols77845 жыл бұрын
@@damzdna3247 your supposed to quarantine also because the water chemistry could be different from yours. Not just for parasites in my experience with eels they are very sensitive to water acclimation.
@jasonp59045 жыл бұрын
Ahmad Echols yeah I would probably do the quarantine tank also. Just to keep a better eye on the eel after the acclimation process and can better control his environment through quarantine. But that’s just me 😊🤘🏻 His way probably worked just fine.

Hi Damiano Is you fire eel still alive? What type of water you keep fire eel at? Is it freshwater or saltwater? I have bought a fire eel 2 weeks ago but it didn't eat
@fakeaccount99527 жыл бұрын
theyre freshwater. I feed my TT eel cut up pieces of store bought frozen shrimp. he eats roughly hslf a shrimp every other day at 10in. Every Saturday he gets a bloodworm cube. Theyre very picky eaters and definitely wont eat flake food. They may not even accept frozen food. Id buy him like 10 ghost shrimp if it's that desperate. steer clear of feeder fish.

Is there any type of eel that can be placed with goldfish and minoes?
@mochitheone28518 жыл бұрын
No. They will eat both, usually they are fed that. But Freshwater sharks usually can survive with them though.

@mattlangworthy81318 жыл бұрын
So u don't technically have to
@leeflorida16908 жыл бұрын
+matt langworthy well that's good that they didn't suffer from shock. more than likely, that means your water parameters are close to the water they came from initially. That being said, I run an aquarium store and have seen fish die from the shock of people just dumping them in the tanks. (ive had to fire employees for doing it repeatedly). If the water chemistry is vastly different than your tank, it will shock them. sometimes you get lucky and they survive, most however do not. But wether you've had success just dumping them in doesn't matter. Telling others false information that may lead to the death of their fish, however, is an asshole move. I'm glad your fish survived. I am. But quit giving out false information. Thankyou
