people don't say 'have you listened to that album?' they say 'have you listened to that song.' an album is a curated body of work from the artists journey through their music to tell their story. but people in general could care less about their story they are telling in their music and only want to listen to a song they like to listen to. singles all the way baby.

There are a few unicorns out there (myself included) who enjoy listening to albums from start to finish, but you're spot on about how most people consume music. And with shorts and reels and that type of content I'm starting to see people who only know a few seconds of a song and don't even bother checking out the whole thing

Thanks!! Pop-up Ghita is awesome! I'm all for albums as well. Nothing beats a good concept album, but sadly I've seen way too many not getting the attention they deserve because all the songs were released in the same day

Are you #TeamAlbum or #TeamSingle? Why not both? 👀

ive been saying this for years. youre the first person ive seen say this other than me. the album is a form in the same way that a symphony is, or a film. i hate these youtube musicians and producers who say its all about ego. go tell scorsese to hang up his ego trip, making films, that his form is out of date. tell scorsese to make tiktoks. fuck outta here... the problem is generic music and people who enjoy playing but dont really have anything to say, so everything is oversaturate. everything is now just 'content'. THAT is the bitter pill to swallow...

It's really unfortunate. I've grown up listening to albums and I always felt it was a deeper experience than simply shuffling through playlists, but most people I know prefer the latter. The compromise for me is to make an album the way I like to hear it, but treat each song as a single to cater to the way most people consume music

@@Garnoo yea absolutely, in terms of release and marketing. i agree i find the album experience is kinda the point. sure sometimes i stick on a song i like, but if im in the mood to listen i listen to a complete work. i just think that in the last fw years the whole 'biznis' thing has eclipsed the 'art' thing. and people who call it like an ego thing are super annoying.

@@lifeasadreamrecords4479 the people that call it an ego thing are usually the same business people that have no idea what it means to pour your soul into a piece of art and only care about "will this sell or not?". The music world did kind of bring this upon itself though... with so many artists wanting to spend their time creating and not worrying about the business, the suits inevitably would come in. At first the label contracts were much more mutually beneficial, but over time they got it into their heads that they can take more from the musician and the balance shifted in the favor of business (this applies to streaming services as well). Fast forward a few decades and this is the norm now. The alternative is to take the business side into your own hands, but that will take a lot of time from actually practicing your craft
