Same with me. My wife bought me albino red ear sliders years ago because normal colored ones are illegal in Florida without a license but albinos are not yet I love all red ear sliders since I was a young child. I have wild normals I keep in my private lake however without acknowledging to the state that they are mine however I have them trained to come out of the water Everytime they see me for food. But after my near fatal accident that permanently disabled me for life, she bought me 3 new hatchling Albino red ear sliders not realizing we had a trio as babies as emotional support animals and I am happy she did. They have been producing steady eggs for the last 12 months so we are hatching their offspring but at first we had no incubator so many obviously went bad. Many are hatching now so it's a repeat in history in re raising a bunch of little ones which I enjoy. We also decided to trade a number of them for a trio of Albino pink belly sideneck turtles to raise with the sliders to have something new. My wife's fear and I hope she is wrong, but with all these pink belly sideneck hatchlings coming out in big numbers much like the normal red ears, she fears that in time, more and more will be released into our water ways as people don't like to keep turtles that get to the size of red ear sliders and the pink bellys do. My wife feared that the state will in time make it illegal to own pink belly sideneck turtles like they did red ear sliders so therefore she started ours our as Albinos as well to avoid legal problems later as well. I must admit, normal and or Albinos, I really enjoy them all regardless and it is a shame the state has made it to be this way. I think all our shelled friends are amazing emotional support animals and perfect for military veterans or people permanently injured, children education and those that just love them needing something like turtles to relax and enjoy with as long as they can provide the basic care needed which really is not a issue with the right set up.

They all look great and I know that they will enjoy being outside and in a grand habitat. My Mom was Concert Master for the Oak Ridge Tennessee Symphony Orchestra in the 60's. Occasionally she would let us come with her and I loved it, because there was a canal and a cool pond I could explore in. That is where I caught my first Southern Painted turtles. They were so neat. There was Water Cress growing in the same canal, which both my parents loved to eat, so I would dutifully gather some each time I went out hunting. In 1969, a fence went up across the end of that canal. Entrance Forbidden! Nuclear Waste Hazard! Yikes! No wonder the turtles were beautiful and large and that Water Cress was so delicious! The next day, Dad took all of us to the Geology Department in Western Carolina University where he taught, and we all were scanned with a Geiger Counter. Glad to say, nothing but Normal. We even checked the Turtles, and they were clear as well. Still love Painted turtles. The Babies are about the cutest ever. Hope you had a Happy World Turtle Day!

Wow! That’s an incredible story! I wonder how that canal is doing now?

@@ShelledReptiles I happened to visit there in the 90's. The little canal and holding pond are all gone, concreted over, and there are all kinds of Radiation Hazard Signs all around it now. It was part of the Oak Ridge Nuclear Research Facility, and was a parking lot drain, so I doubt we were ever in any danger, but, now, they have to be sure. Times change.

It is that amazing time of the year to see them bask, breeding and laying eggs steadily. It seems like when my female albino sliders drop their eggs, the males are instantly breeding the females again. I noticed a lot of breeding activity at least with mine more often upon every pond cleaning day as well but that just might be me with seeing the water being so very clear. I always kept the water decent but I needed a much bigger draining function as we all know how messy they can get for sure. But seeing them bask, breed and lay eggs is really a enjoyable thing to watch as we all enjoy watching our pets. Shelled friends always seem to have awesome personalities and are actually trainable for basic task. I enjoy working with both the wild turtles behind my house that I placed there since juvis to my captive bred and hatched albino turtles. To me, they all are amazing and serve as a emotional support animals since my accident.

I am a responsible keeper who cleans the pond 3 times per year, feeds turtles every other day, the pong is a mansion for the turtles I have in it and I've been looking for some yellow bellies for the pond. So where are how could I get them if you are willing to sell?

I feel you can have turtles if you keep fish as long as they are not huge fish in comparison. I raised my baby albino red ear sliders with fish but I raised them on specific diet with a blood worm mix resulting in leaving the fish alone. They are adults now and still leave the fish alone though I raised and bred fancy tail guppies in their tank to offer them live food while keeping the tank attractive. What happened as a result, I was producing way to many fancy tail guppies since my turtles won't eat live fish that I traded guppies to the pet store in numbers for turtle supplies and such as I was getting way more guppies that I wanted. Other guppies, I just gave away free. I came across problems with the large alge eaters with the placos as if they are to big, they will ride the backs of smaller turtles and literally drown them. I had one baby die from this also. But with turtles from personal experience, if you have 3 times the amount of filtration per gallon (or greater filtration) , a turtle fish tank can be kept sparkling clean for many months and it is perfectly fine for fish also. 12 months before turtles become sexually mature though, a proper waterland tub or proper pond is needed. When it comes to laying their eggs, turtles need to be accustomed to laying them in soil. If they do not have this 12 months or so before they become sexually mature, they will lay their eggs in the water therefore the eggs will drown if you do not catch it on time. These are just some things from personal experience is all. But I raise all by babies in tanks with a basking dock and I keep turtles anywhere from $250 a baby to $3,000 each now. It started this way strickly due to the laws in turtles in Florida due to my permanent injury from the near fatal accident as emotional support animal only. I am setting up a new hatching tank as soon as my other new filter comes in with guppies again shortly. But I encourage you to keep fish and turtles in the same tank. Colorful fish that don't cost a lot in-case they do eat them but you can train the turtles on a specific diet away from the fish first for several months which would reduce the chances of the fish being consumed.

I have a question: I just redone my indoor waterland turtle tub pond for my adult breeding albino red ear sliders as I felt I needed a bigger draining system & a much higher filtration. I purchased a marineland c530 which filtrates 150 gallons stand alone canister filter. I spent all night trying to problem solve a primer issue with this unit but finally figured out how to prime it but I had to do it underwater in the waterland tub with extra help from the from the garden hose to push the water through. But now I can not get the intake tube working in the placement over the lip of the waterland. Do you have any thoughts on how I could achieve that task? Just struggling here with it. Besides that, the filter works amazing. I can't wait till the eggs hatch here soon. She is carring more eggs as well.

It's an outdoor pond though. If they can get out of the pond (to explore or by failed predation), they could get into a water system and become invasive. ...I'm not saying you're irresponsible or that you haven't planned ahead for something like that, but in my state it's illegal to have outdoor man-made ponds and koi ponds for that reason.
