With 3D Scanning complete it is time to design and prototype the Eventuri Intake System for the GR Yaris.
Lead Engineer Bilal Mahmood talks us through his design process, analysing the original airbox and showing how he improves the design, releasing not only the turbo sounds but also allowing the turbo to work more efficiently, creating more power.

Hmmm. Unless you show the OE and revised system with the same scaling then we can't compare anything. What you find is that the filter acts in all cases as a very good dynamic lineariser, because it is effectively a very fine mesh of a lot of very small holes. Typical OE air systems are designed to a 1kPa dynamic loss for both dirty and clean ducting, so i'd be astonished if adding the revised system gave any (significant) gain on a std car. Sure, if you wind up the boost and significantly increase engine intake mass flow there might be a bit to be had, but modern OE airboxes are really good enough as you fluid dynamics model shows! You'd almost certain get a better gain from simply upping the diameter of the precompressor pipe (which is where the velocity is by far the highest because the CSA is the lowest) and because dynamic pressure is the square of the fluid velocity, any gains really only happen at higher velocity points, say above 80 m/s or so.

You are falling into the trap of assuming that disruption at the walls is a negative - actually this will energise the flow at the wall, reducing the boundary layer and increasing effective flow area. I don’t think the convoluted section is really an issue other than potentially being a smaller diameter, and certainly allows significantly more engine movement that your much smaller section seal. I’d be interested to see the seal on yours after 5 years in comparison to the OEM one, though replacing the seal at intervals would be acceptable if the rest of the system doesn’t become damaged
@chrisg4rr377
@chrisg4rr377 3 жыл бұрын
Thinking of the initial cost of the airbox, additional costs would really make you questions any purchase. Also when using a flow dynamics software, surely you would need to take into consideration the vacuum effect of the turbo pulling the air in, creating differences in airbox air pressure with different RPM and load application

Decreasing resistance is always more effective in a TURBO vehicle because the flow is multiplied - any effect is also multiplied. Sure, you can turn up the boost to cover up losses but that comes with other damaging effects.
@Eventuri
@Eventuri 3 жыл бұрын
Typically a turbo car will see more gains. As explained in the video manufacturers consider the airbox a silencer (I believe some OEM parts lists will even refer to it as such) and therefore are making a more difficult path to muffle noise. They then work the turbo harder to produce the required power. Unrestricting this intake path let’s the turbo work more efficiently, spool quicker and produce more power.

@@EvolveAutomotive 32k is a bargain for 4wheel drive rally car that weights 1280kg has a carbon roof and most powerful 3 banger on the market. People are all over the Yaris name not about what you actually get for the money, yes it is a lot for Yaris but it is not a Yaris. Toyota sell them not for profit but as Halo car. There are nothing even near to that price point that you can get. It is a budget car, a budget performance car. But that intake system is a premium product with expensive name, and price suits more Lambo, Audi RS and BMW M car owners nothing bad about it if you got a car that is more than 80-100k new, but too much for a cheap Japaneese car made for driving not for show off.
