This style pressure plate seems like major hassle but it isn't. The hassle is not knowing what you're doing. This video will give a few tips on how to release the throwout bearing from the pressure plate. This example is a from a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a V6.

Retired GM technician here I want to thank you so much for the clear information you have here. I fought with this damn thing for a couple of of hours before I looked up your video. When you said bolt the trans back up I knew I was on the right road from there. ✌️💯👍

Your video saved my life, After 1.5 days and no help the motor is out in under five minutes. Tried to put motor back on bell housing and couldn't so I disconnected slave cylinder said what the heck put screw driver up anyways and "click" it disconnected. Wish i could buy you a beer.

You absolutely saved me! I have a 1994 Nissan Skyline GTR and failed to release the throw out bearing prior to trying ti pull the transmission from the motor and struggled with it for an hour before finding your video. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this, it was just what I was looking for. 2003 WRX is a pull type and I was pulling on the transmission and it was not coming out. One I put the screw driver next to that collar and moved the fork back I heard a pop and it was free! Thanks a ton!!!

Great video. I'm going to be changing out my clutch on my S2000 starting tonight, and it has a similar "pull type" release bearing. The nice thing about the S2000, however, is that all you need to do is pull the fork towards you to get it to let go of the release bearing :) That bad part is trying to get access to the top starter bolt, and the other bolts on the top of the transmission to get it out. You literally have to lower the engine sub frame to gain access and use 24" and 30" extensions to access the bolts............argggg...........I can predict the frustration.............

This also works on Magna's or Diamantes. Most cars with the mitsubishi FWD gearboxes.

Thank you kindly :)I'm doing a manual LSD conversion on a mates Ralliart magna #53 but couldn't get the clip to release, did the screwdriver twist from the bottom but have distorted it release as you said, going to have to remove the distributor to get decent access to the top but should work, fingers crossed

Great info, even though I don't have tbis type of clutch. I have a 2006 subaru sti that I'm working on. Bad clutch release bearing.

Good vid. I'm working on a car with a similar, if not identical setup. Are you familiar with Subaru's version of this system. My key problems are two fold: 1 the brand new kit's bearing and the old bearing seem to have no spring in them like yours for instancel. They have similar play but nothing keeping them from "flopping" back and forth. As a result the fork tends to flop back and forth. 2: I'm having some weird clutch issues that I'm worried are related to this after replacing the clutch. First few clutch operations are fine, then (especially when driven hard) the clutch grabs deeper and deeper in the line of travel. Almost as if the fork is not making contact with the slave cylinder (which sits pretty far out to my eye). Fluids flushed and bled. No leaks. Any ideas? Much apreceated. Should the throwout bearing be "springloaded" like yours on my Subaru? 99 Forester turbo S EDM. cheers

This was very helpful, however I still can’t get it out of my Chrysler Sebring v6. It has the same style if not the same transmission as the eclipse. It looks like the spring washer is stretch. If it’s pushed firmly will it still come out regardless. I’m in dire need of help here. There’s limited space, however I can fit screwdrivers in to press the bearing and pry but it just won’t disengage. I did this last step as well.

I remember on my old Citroen Relay I had to make an access hole in the box to get the bearing released.

i just did a clutch on my 2000 eclipse and found it was easier to put the screw driver through the fork hole. this way i was able to pull on the fork and see that the screw driver was pushing down on the ring. plus there's more room since the hole is bigger.

What part number for clutch did u use.. I'm doing it in a chrysler serbing which is all the exact same.. I got the kit but bolting it on the pressure plate is not tight to the clutch plates

Hey I have a question... I was driving my EVO when I heard something snap. I had the car towed home and when I check where the clutch fork is at I noticed that the fork is sitting in the position as if it was released. The clutch slave doesnt even reach it. What could it be?

Hello, thanks for the video. I have Fiat Bravo 2 1.6 multijet 105hp. From 1-2 weeks I have an issue with the clutch - when I am going on first and reverse gear the car is vibrating and annoying rasping sound is heard on the front of the car. Sometimes I am not even able to shift the gears and when I turn off the car and pump the clutch and then the car start shifting and driving off without vibrations. Could it be a problem with the clutch release bearing? Or because of old brake fluid and air in the system? Thanks in advance!

omg just took the gearbox off my ten wheeler isuzu dump truck and it has the same type of pressure plate ,it was the first time i saw that type ,i literally pulled the whole bearing through the pressure plate, i hope i didn't do any damage .

Good video, but mine would not release. Sledgehammer to the trans worked. Even after I had the clutch on my bench, it would not release. Car is going to the junkyard. F Eclipses.

That procedure does not appear to work on Kias/Hyundai's of the generation of my car (2009 Kia Spectra). I've got the pressure plate, with throwout bearing attached from my car and there doesn't seem to be any way to remove the throwout bearing. (The service information for the kia says to disconnect the clutch linkage when pulling the transmission which allows the fork to swing free of the throwout bearing, but this is a one-way operation. Pulling the transmission means replacing the clutch at least the pressure plate and throwout bearing so far as I can tell.)
