After I published this, someone on Facebook commented there and recommended The American Conservative ( www.theamericanconservative.com/ ) -- I also highly recommend this source. It leans right but is not extreme or far right, and it is ideologically based rather than partisan, and often voices viewpoints critical of the Republican party, but coming from a conservative perspective. I haven't read it much in the past but I'm thinking it might be a good source to recommend and I now wish I had included it in this video too!

Thank you so much for this very rational review of conservative news. I have been telling my kids to get a wide variety of news sources and then use their own critical thinking to decide for themselves what they believe. This will help me also view accurate conservative sites to get the varied opinions on a subject. Thanks, Alex!

Today I found an old note on my computer (for a list of app ideas) that read, "Something tea with kazort (twitter tea dude)" and was like, "Oh yeah I remember them, I wonder what they are up to"..... I had to do a twitter search bc obviously I misspelled your handle. Long story short... I discovered you in the Wall Street Journal comment section back in 2011 -- you were seemingly the sole voice of sanity and reason and it was striking at the time. I found you on twitter after that and your adventures in tea were interesting. Anyhow, I just want to say thank you again, for some pretty neat resources to navigate the times we live in.

How about doing a contrasting video on liberal news media? 🤔 Over the past 3 years, I've noticed CNN was just as guilty as FOX when it comes to reporting and dealing with issues.

Great idea, I agree. CNN and MSNBC have kinda become the left-wing counterparts to Fox. I definitely have a hierarchy of quality among left-wing sources too. If you want my quick run-down in a comment reply though, the BBC and NPR are really top sources for me, that lean left. For all out "raging leftist" media, but with still good fact checking, I'd point to Mother Jones and The Nation. I tend to like The Nation's treatment of racial issues but I think it sometimes also has pro-Russian bias and I can be skeptical of that. Mother Jones covers some really important environmental issues. One of my favorite sources, which isn't exactly liberal, but on average leans slightly left, is The Atlantic. I like it because it has a somewhat progressive viewpoint but it frequently questions left-wing orthodoxy.

Haha, yeah, I'm used to it. The state of conservatism in the US in particular these days is utterly terrifying. Like, there aren't really many actual conservatives left any more, as in, people who want to preserve and protect a traditional way of life, resist harmful change, and protect what is good and promote stability and continuity in society. Instead, a lot of people have fallen into far-right, knee-jerk behaviors and ideologies and think that's conservatism, everything from hating LGBTQ people to racism and white supremacy, to hating/blaming poor people, xenophobia, to just outright denial of scientific facts (global warming? biological views of sex? the modern Republican party throws these out the window), and a bunch more. It's sad. I've become more conservative as I have grown older, as many people predicted I would when I was younger. However, I found that there wasn't really anyone to represent my conservative views. It's very frustrating. In the US there is only a more-or-less liberal party, and a kinda nutcase far-right / alt-right dysfunctional extremist party. But anyway, thanks for the comment and the support.

Ahh, that's a different question and a good one! One of my favorites, a source that leans left slightly, but still respects conservatives and doesn't always tow the Democratic party line, is The Atlantic. NPR (and also the related PRI, and for television PBS) is also good, it has news and also interesting programming (PBS news hour is probably the best news on mainstream TV), and it all leans left, but in a more moderate way. Perhaps a bit farther left than both of those but also good is Mother Jones. It often takes an environmentalist and anti-corruption slant. If you want all-out "raging leftist" stuff, but still intelligent, I recommend The Nation. It's about as far left as I think you can go without ending up in the looney bin. It is also a lot less clickbaity and sensationalistic than other far-left news (*cough* Huffington Post *cough*) If you want policy / think tank type stuff, I recommend the Brookings Institute. They're sort of intelligent center-left policy. I hope this gives you some intelligent stuff to read or watch!

Any time! I just realized I want to update this; things have changed a bit since I made this. The Weekly Standard closed, and was replaced by The Bulwark. National Review has, in my opinion, gone downhill a bit. I also discovered some more center-right sources that I would recommend and was thinking of making a new video or at least article or list recommending some of them.

I appreciate your attempt at this, but pretty much all of these sources are either very conservative, have mixed factual reporting, or both. I think you need to try again. I try to follow unbiased sources or sources that are no more than moderate left/righ with high or very high factual reporting.

I disagree about the factual reporting of these sources (and Media Bias / Fact Check, a site I trust a lot, also does), but...if you (like me) prefer less-biased sources, you might want to check out Reuters (for a deeper, US-based approach), USA Today (for a more popular / easily accessible approach), Defense One (for things about national defense). And Wall Street Journal too (just ignore their editorial page, which is very right-wing and not held to the same factual standards as their reporting). And, for discussion of policy and esp. corruption-related matters, I like Center for Public Integrity. I'm hoping to make another video at some point where I focus on these least-biased sources. I also want to make a video on left-leaning or liberal-biased sources. Even if they're biased, I think there are some of the best publications in the world in this category.

Why has conservative media fallen so bad? 🤔

I'm not 100% sure why. I think part of it is that over the past 20 or so years, local and regional newspapers have suffered a lot, but left-leaning people stayed reading the paper a good bit more than right-leaning people, so more of the right-leaning local and regional papers closed, often leaving a monopoly in left-leaning newspapers. I also think part of it has been a realignment of what it means to be "liberal" and "conservative". Back about 30 years ago, conservatism was very different from what is called "conservatism" today. Back then, it was common for there to be highly-educated people who were very conservative and read right-leaning news sources. And you could find both more liberal and more conservative people in both urban centers and rural areas. Nowadays, the right-left spectrum has largely realigned, and for the most part, urban centers and highly-educated populations are overwhelmingly left-leaning, whereas rural areas and people with lower levels of education are overwhelmingly right-leaning. Keep in mind, "right" and "left" don't mean exactly the same thing now as they used to. But...with this new realignment, you have educational institutions completely dominated by left-wing thinking, and you also have the right-leaning population much less interested in reading, especially in-depth and better-sourced material. So both the quantity and quality of right-leaning media suffers, and the remaining higher-quality media becomes mostly heavily skewed towards left-wing politics. At least that's my theory. And it's frustrating to me because I think something important is missing when the media all skews left like that and when the remaining right-leaning media is so low-quality it's mostly sensationalism and conspiracy theories (like we see with Newsmax, OAN, Bretbart, and the like.)

Because they want the globe to be one government and the American Conservative is the last thing in the way
