It may have done your head in in many ways, but one thing more than anything made up for that - just remember when you first turned the key and she fired right up! That alone is reason to forgive it's other troubles. She looks grand compared to what she was, and just so great to see her running around the countryside like that. We drove from Menton to beyond Nice and up towards Aux en Provacance before he noticed the fuel was dropping rather noticeably. When he stopped as a petrol station he spotted we had been travelling at 70 foe the whole distance in second! The car was smooth as you like....but thirsty! It was an automatic ..

That’s the main grudge l have against the British motor industry, we always got the shitty end of the stick, Australia, South Africa et al got their versions of Granada’s Carlton’s senators cortinas capris asconas etc with v8’s , when we got smoky old pintos and v6’s that weren’t fit to prop the scrapyard gate open when new. @@tastyclassics it truly did mate yeah was pretty inspired that l thought, especially the way you went for a body colour so it looked like ghost stripes. The only other option l could think of as l was watching along was to Matte black the bonnet like a mach1 and do the headlight bezels to match , but on reflection your idea was far more sympathetic and subtle and certainly the right thing to do for that car . Good on you mate 🙏🏻

The issue with seized wipers was common on minis. The solution is to remove the wiper blades. Disconnect the worm from the motor. Then pull the inner from the outer at the wiper motor, it should come out with a bit of twisting and pulling. Clean the worm and re- grease. Reassemble . Usually the are like new unless the cogs under the wiper spindles have worn, (floppy wiper arms) in which case, they can be rotated 180 degrees from their original positions (mark them at the point the worm comes out) and you have new teeth in the spindles operating. Only costs a bit of grease and 30 minutes of time. This is an excellent candidate for a full body of restoration, for someone who knows how strip and paint fibreglass bodies. It should restore like a new car.

As always a great video Ben. So glad you decided to go with the Scimitar, it would have been such a waste to go for spares. You've done most of the work to get it driving, with a little more no doubt it would pass an MOT, (not sure if due to it's age it needs one, but I'd have one done just to check legal road worthiness). If I bought it, sadly I don't have the money or the room, I'd use it as a daily driver, restoring it as I go. What a grand old motor, looking forward to the next video, don't be too long 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

that really was a great video. nice that your family came down to see you, and they seemed happy to be there supporting you. good for selling the scimitar, hopefully it will either be restored or just fixed up and driven for a few more years. personally i like the format of, find a car sitting for years, wash it, get it running, basic sevice, any little jobs at a standard just to get through the mot then sell and let someone enjoy driving it.

Yep. Just as I'd hoped. I had a Talbot Horizon 1.3LS once. Believe me, at 17 years of age when all your mates have got MK2 Escorts and Sierra 2.0GTSs, you get quite a lot of stick - until you tighten your ohv valve clearances down spec about 40% and get a right load more horsepower! (as long as engine's hot or just reasonable guess, if not) Don't forget, with an ohv, you have twice as much clattering force due to effectively double clearances - one for the crank to pushrod, and one at the pushrod to rocker - than an ohc engine. So, rest on those feeler blades a bit more than you do with an overhead camshaft engine!!! Trust me, it's safe as long as you don't overdo it! My Talbot was absolutely beautiful and I wish I still had it now! Looks like it's just been hammered wider, that No.1 (2?) pot... Magic worked again! 🙂

You are wicked smart to know when to stop the process of restoring the SE5 Scimitar. It is in fact, running and driving, the next person can continue the repair/restoration process. This car would be a great candidate for a period, say 1970's movie/TV show running and driving prop, etc, etc. Example; Dr. Who, the Moody Blues, The Avengers, Man from UNCLE, Top Gear, Wheeler Dealers, James Bond, etc.

Well done Ben you belong to the same school of restoration as me - get it on the road and presentable then drive it. The son in law of the chap who lived opposite us when I was a kid back in the 60's, bought a new one of these. iirc you could buy it with sheepskin seat covers. I was always envious of it when he brought it round. Then in 1971 he swapped it for one of the last Morris Minor Countryman built! Must have noticed a big difference in the performance! I wonder which would be worth the most today?

I had to stop watching VGG as his humour was too repetitive and starting to grate. A good example of engaging with viewers is Mustie 1 who fixes up all kinds of motorised junk on his channel.

Loved your video, your videos are always funny, but yet informative to watch and I love the fact that you don't choose the common cars that people would normally opt for but you choose the little more obscure ones. Love your work and carry on with your excellent chanel.
