The issue with seized wipers was common on minis. The solution is to remove the wiper blades. Disconnect the worm from the motor. Then pull the inner from the outer at the wiper motor, it should come out with a bit of twisting and pulling. Clean the worm and re- grease. Reassemble . Usually the are like new unless the cogs under the wiper spindles have worn, (floppy wiper arms) in which case, they can be rotated 180 degrees from their original positions (mark them at the point the worm comes out) and you have new teeth in the spindles operating. Only costs a bit of grease and 30 minutes of time. This is an excellent candidate for a full body of restoration, for someone who knows how strip and paint fibreglass bodies. It should restore like a new car.

As always a great video Ben. So glad you decided to go with the Scimitar, it would have been such a waste to go for spares. You've done most of the work to get it driving, with a little more no doubt it would pass an MOT, (not sure if due to it's age it needs one, but I'd have one done just to check legal road worthiness). If I bought it, sadly I don't have the money or the room, I'd use it as a daily driver, restoring it as I go. What a grand old motor, looking forward to the next video, don't be too long 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

that really was a great video. nice that your family came down to see you, and they seemed happy to be there supporting you. good for selling the scimitar, hopefully it will either be restored or just fixed up and driven for a few more years. personally i like the format of, find a car sitting for years, wash it, get it running, basic sevice, any little jobs at a standard just to get through the mot then sell and let someone enjoy driving it.

Yep. Just as I'd hoped. I had a Talbot Horizon 1.3LS once. Believe me, at 17 years of age when all your mates have got MK2 Escorts and Sierra 2.0GTSs, you get quite a lot of stick - until you tighten your ohv valve clearances down spec about 40% and get a right load more horsepower! (as long as engine's hot or just reasonable guess, if not) Don't forget, with an ohv, you have twice as much clattering force due to effectively double clearances - one for the crank to pushrod, and one at the pushrod to rocker - than an ohc engine. So, rest on those feeler blades a bit more than you do with an overhead camshaft engine!!! Trust me, it's safe as long as you don't overdo it! My Talbot was absolutely beautiful and I wish I still had it now! Looks like it's just been hammered wider, that No.1 (2?) pot... Magic worked again! 🙂

You are wicked smart to know when to stop the process of restoring the SE5 Scimitar. It is in fact, running and driving, the next person can continue the repair/restoration process. This car would be a great candidate for a period, say 1970's movie/TV show running and driving prop, etc, etc. Example; Dr. Who, the Moody Blues, The Avengers, Man from UNCLE, Top Gear, Wheeler Dealers, James Bond, etc.
