Really good video. I couldn’t help but notice a lack of discussion though on Catholicism and the impact it had on science and the economy. Many universities in Europe were established as Catholic institutions. The system of accounting is reputedly established by bankers in renaissance Italy. The crusades helped facilitate the development of banking. And then towards the end, it would be interesting to examine how Protestant Europe went ahead of Catholic Europe in industrialization despite having a head start with the renaissance and overseas empires (Spanish & Portuguese).

🤝 Had a busy week and was finally able to watch this morning. The staying power of communism being tied to the Eastern Orthodox Church is a new concept to me but it makes a lot of sense. I knew Calvinism considered hard work its own reward but never tied it to why the rise of capitalism was so strong in Europe. I guess all you need is a handful of common people getting filthy rich from being workaholics and suddenly everyone knows what is possible.

We still have a palace economy. Congress controls the budget, the Fed extract value from seniority of its currency. (I.E. interest and inflation from printer burr.)

Well you forgot the country providing 25+ % GDP for straight 1000+ years. Sanatan ( Eternal) dharm ( Righteousness) provides a path for sustainability for centuries.

Great video, and as usual, I appreciate the inclusion of source in the description. Some books worth reading on the subject by economist Michael Hudson, who has extensive academic background in economic systems, debt and trade in the ancient world (despite his political biases especially when discussing the modern economic system, as seen in his best work "Killing the host" (2015)): The Collapse of Antiquity: Greece and Rome as Civilization's Oligarchic Turning Point (2023) Temples of Enterprise: Creating Economic Order in the Bronze Age Near East (2024) Urbanization and Land Ownership in the Ancient Near East (1999)

Couple problems and mistakes with this video! there was some skilled labor on the pyramids in Egypt! But there most definitely was slaves! When you’re talking about the (Golden age of Islam) you make the mistake of confusing Arab and much of the other cultures that created that “Golden Age” you’re also failing to mention the plagiarism that went on in the Arab world forgetting that works like Aristotle, Plato, and even mathematics was just expounded upon to invented by the followers of Islam, Islam showed what it really was once the implementation of the Sharia was fully adopted.
