The Bible is a collection of sacred texts or scriptures that Jews and Christians consider to be a product of divine inspiration and a record of the relationship between God and humans.
Many different authors contributed to the Bible. And what is regarded as canonical text differs depending on traditions and groups.
Attitudes towards the Bible also differ amongst Christian groups. Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Eastern Orthodox Christians stress the harmony and importance of the Bible and sacred tradition, while Protestant churches focus on the idea of sola scriptura.
With estimated total sales of over 5 billion copies, the Bible is widely considered to be the best-selling book of all time.

The way you suggest "organized" for the word normally translated as "created", brings up fascinating possibilities for the idea of Elohim bringing forth order out of chaos, Thank you. I think if you look at later jewish writings, especially those in the rest of the cannon, its clear that the creative focus for the Jewish reader/theologian, was on God. Jewish scriptural scholarship and preservation was exhaustive. So when we find that the apostles say "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God and the word was with God...All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." Yes it is about God bringing order out of chaos, but its clear that no matter what it mechanically looked like, nothing that exists which began to exist, came about without the Word creating it.

As a hebrew speaker first i want to complement you, you have a good hebrew. I have two notes about the translation of the bible: 1. In the sentence "Elohim bara", as you said "Elohim" is in plural but "bara" is the single form for the verb created, if you refer to the word "Elohim" as a name then it might be in single form, and then the translation to english of "Elohim bara" should be "God (whose name is Elohim) created". 2. Because Hebrew is tolaly different language then English, lots of the words in english and hebrew doesn't have the exact meaning and a hebrew might have several translations in english. The hebrew word "Shamaim" means heavens but it also means skys, the word "Aretz" means earth but it also means groun. Therefore the transla for "Elohim bara et ha-shamaim ve-et ha-aretz" might be "Gods created the skys and the ground" or it might be "Elohim (god's name) created the separation between heavens and earth"

I think Metatrons points about Hebrew can be debated but he is right when it comes to the fact that many fundamentalist type Christians starting getting technical about the Bible in the English language where they dont realize English is not the language to be technical with here, and that type of analysis makes no sense with out knowing the actual language it was written in. Thanks for always trying to be respectful to everyone Metatron.

@@die1mayer nonsense. St.Cryril and St.Methodius translated the bible into slavic already in the 9th/10th century and latin was essentially the lingua franca of the time. My faith means I will always ask questions, and it doesn't matter if the answers make me comfortable or not. I was raised a Christian but I still don't understand where the idea that megatron means the devil comes from... I never encountered the word before but a quick qoogle search on the etymology and definition of meta and tron was pretty enlightening. I'm an English major so I love breaking down words to see what they mean lol. Meta means beyond, after, or behind. Tron is a term denoting an instrument. Metatron can be seen as a tool or instrument from beyond. Seems like a fancy way to say a messenger from God. Google says metatron refers to the angel that led the Jews out of Egypt. These Christians don't use google or something? 😂

I'm fascinated too with this specific subject, not so much on linguistics, but more so because I don't think religion is what they told us it is. Linguistics could be one of the tools to uncover hidden truths though. It's quite possible through all those stories there is some kind of truth hidden in there. I think people tried to transfer past lost history, lost events or knowledge, but through the ages and generations, those stories were altered, either because each generation was trying to understand these stories looking at them through their own culture and beliefs, or each generation added their own touches in those stories for various reasons, or who knows, maybe things are hidden there on purpose, for our own safety? The truth is still in there though I believe. I doubt religion is what they say it is, and I also doubt ancient mythology is what they say it is. What do these things have in common? Oh, you'd be so surprised with all the similarities between the Christian bible stories and ancient Greek mythology. They're just way too many, my comment would be huge to include them all and analyze them. Here's a few examples. There is a person called Jesus in Christianity, who was crusified by the Romans. He was the son of God. In ancient Greek mythology there is Προμηθέας (Prometheus), son of the Titans, who was punished in similar fashion by Δίας (Zeus). Instead of the Roman soldier's spear when he was on the cross, the crows did the same to him when he was chained. He was punished cause he tried to help people and tought them how to use fire and light. In Christianity Jesus also tried to help people, to receive the light, favor of God, and even to this day, Christians would light their candles with the phrase "δεύτε λάβετε φως" from the priest, which means "receive his light". Also, Christ, is not a name. Jesus is a name. Christ comes from the greek word χρίσμα, chrisma? or is it charisma? someone who is christened, has the ch(a)risma of God. They have told us that Prometheus actually told people how to lit an actual fire, and they told us Jesus told people how to be nice and good to each other. I think there is something hidden there, these things sure don't deserve to be punished at all, and they both meant well. So this is either bullshit, a lie, or the meaning of light was lost through time. What if it's knowledge of something specific? I mean, why punish Prometheus so harshly for teaching people how to lit a fire to keep themselves warm, and why punish Jesus so harshly for teaching people to behave? It doesn't add up. What if Prometheus and Jesus were actually the same person? Or what if the reason they were punished was because through this knowledge people could help themselves but they could also cause tremendous harm if they acted irresponsibly? And they certainly would, as we all know how people are like. Or maybe the powers that be, or the Gods, plural, as the Metatron says, didn't wanna share this knowledge? Funny, cause the Greeks had many Gods, not just one. 12 major Gods and several other minors deities. Could this be the reason for the cataclysmic wipe out of the human race back then? Cause there is a cataclysm both in Christianity as well as in ancient Greek Mythology. While the cataclysm in Christianity happens long after Adam and Eve, in ancient Greek mythology Adam and Eve were the survivors - their names were Δευκαλίων and Πύρρα (Defkalion and Peera). Which is funny, cause Πύρρα, the name of this woman, linguistically comes from the word πύρ (fire), does this mean she kept the knowledge of Prometheus (or Jesus in Christianity) and survived? Eve in Christianity ate that apple from the tree of knowledge and they were banished from the garden of Eden. Also, in Christianity, there is an Angel who rebelled against God. In a way, Prometheus did the same thing, he rebelled against Zeus. Hmm... In medieval times, he was pictured a monster and such, on the other hand, Angels were winged beings of light, sometimes depicted as children. His Angel name was Light-bringer, Εωσφόρος, that is he who brings you the light, the same thing the priest says when they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Hmm... And it's funny, cause in other places you might find a symbol that interconnects those two, such as the Chinese Ying and Yang. While in Christianity, God is pure good, he just happened to wanna drown and destroy the whole of humanity and almost all life on Earth. Hmm... And Gods (plural) in Hebrew is Elohim... with these beings, the Gods, called "El". A Greek person is called 'Ελλην ('El-in), and Greece is called Ελλάδα, even to this day. Έλλην, could come from Έλ and ήν, which linguistically, in ancient Greek, ήν is the past tense of εστί, which means is/was, came to to be, origin. Εστία which comes from εστί, also means origin in Greek and in modern Greek it usually has the meaning of home, unless you combine this with fire where it means origin, like εστία φωτιάς. So Έλλην, could mean "those who come from the El", with the El being the Gods. And there is a symbol, a double E that mirrors itself, and you find this on many ancient Greek ruins. Anyway, there's just too many hidden things in all that stuff I think, and if you think these are too many similarities between Christianity and ancient mythology, I haven't even started. This is a really short comment, I could write a ton more stuff. Like, human, in Greek is άνθρωπος, etymologically, means a being who looks upwards? or wants to move up? towards the heavens? above? upwards? However, there are warnings in the Bible, the El don't like it, there is the "tower of babel" story, they struck us down when we tried. They apparently made us speak different languages, so we cannot understand each other... or is this a parable? hmm... so maybe it is that through language we could uncover truths? Then again, there is another warning in the Bible, apparently Jesus told Thomas "πίστευε και μη ερεύνα", as in, believe and do not search (look? look for?), and that although is a modern translation from the original, possibly an incorrect one? Thomas had seen Jesus after his death, blessed are those who believe without having seen Him. Is that literal? A parable? Is this some kind of a warning, that this kind of knowledge you would not wanna know? Maybe it's too much, who knows? On the other hand, modern Church says that there is a comma on that phrase, and if so, it would mean, whether you believe or not, search. Hmm.. the Thomas text doesn't sound this way, and he was apparently kinda difficult to believe or accept things, then again there is the Babel story... If you concluded that those stories do not add up, though there is hidden truth in there, I think the same. I doubt ancient Greeks were writing bullshit fairytales, the same goes for all the people who wrote the Bible and Christian religious texts. These are not fake, no matter your beliefs, I know atheism is all the cool nowadays, but there is something to those stories I think. Anyway, I would really love to see a video on those subjects, if you want to @Metatron. You seem a really knowledgeable person, I'd like to watch your analysis, and I'd wanna hear your views on those matters, even if your views clash with the status quo or what is considered as acceptable, by either Christian priests, or historians.

Here i am not insulting or blaspheming others people deities, but is more mythical a superhuman that lives in a physical world than a prophet or a spiritual entity, as the spiritual/metaphysical things are a totally different thing towards science

Not really the case. The Romans just spent a lot of time trying to solve the problem created by slave labor when they also needed a lot of slave labor. We're probably going to face a similar problem in our own future when automation sends a huge percentage of the workforce to the unemployment line. I suppose you could call that a welfare state, but you can't really hold being unemployed against a person when there are no jobs.....

While this has nothing to do with the OP. What eggsandwich8885 should mean is that, ANY system of ideologically purity where everyone (even non-practitioners) must be made to reject all other ideologies and to strictly adhered to ONE singular ideology since ALL other ideologies are wrong or bad, such an ideological stance is wrong. This applies to ANY ideology; secular, religious, political, economical... What he left out is; Civil code gets more leeway here as the ideal objective is to allow for the co-existence multiple ideologies (without highly favoring or disparaging one) in such a way where society (despite it’s ideological differences) can flourish and be civil. Likewise the with core academics, as society must have a consensus on the basics as to what is real or not and what is acceptable or not in order to both flourish and remain civil.

Mark Byrd I speak Hebrew as my native language, there are some strange points about the use of the verbs in conjunction with elohim, in deed it is sometimes singular and others plural, but there are also at least three different names for god elohim = אלוהים as he said in the video is indeed a plural form some orthodox Jews will say elokim =אלוקים instead adonai = אדוני best translated as the Latin dominos or english my lord, but it can also be translated as a plural as the was no punctuation in the original text yahova =יהווה this is treated as the explicit name of god and most Jews will not say this word even when reading in prayer opting for my lord instead there are a few more like אדוני צבאות =my lord (s?) army (host?) and it is usually used when it's the preparation for war

Arabs do that as well, in Quran, Allah said "We" (when translated into English) many times, for example, "And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness" (Quran, verse 50:38) Arabs says that it is Arabic way to use plural as a way of showing greatness, it doesn't mean there are many Gods or Allah is working with other Gods or other heavenly beings, even the elites among the Arabs saying "We" and "Us" instead of "I" and "Me" when talking about themselves. Well, that is what the Arabs say, i am not Arab anyway :))

If the Israelites really were enslaved several times you'd think that their language would be influenced by the languages of those who enslaved them, since they co-lived with them. Same as when the Israelites conquer several cities. I find it hard to believe that the original Hebrew was truly preserved as throughout history enemy countries who interacted with each other often ended up being influenced by one another's language and culture. I'm sure the original meaning of text must have been lost only to be perceived and interpreted later on as meaning things we wanted them to mean. I think our own personal opinions make us perceive and interpret things we see as right. Not the "Holy Spirit". I think it's human for several religions made by human rationale to find certain consensus in the ways we perceive life through experience and observation. From what I understand, a lot of religions place importance on respect of others, family, hierarchy, and structure. And I think all humans find comfort in thinking that there is a certain structure, a certain TRUTH, a certain VALIDITY,, set rules of good and evil. I believe it's a natural instinct to want to know things, to want to feel safe and certain about the things in life, to have a plan, something to follow, to follow the paths and wisdom of your parents, grandparents, elderly *because we long for guidance in a world of uncertainties. We seek knowledge and understanding because we want to understand how this world works and how we should or shouldn't be, do, live. What is acceptable and what isn't? How should we interact with people on a day to day basis? And it's this structure that both traps us and protects us. Or is it just one and not the other? It's these guidelines that both guide and make us feel stuck when we only live within the boundaries of those guidelines. Like a house it protects us but it also restrains us if we never step outside of it. I see biblical Christianity as a way of constantly doubting one's own ability to do anything in society without a hand to hold.* Christianity is like the parent who doesn't realize that they're child is growing up and coming up with their own opinions. A child repressed, suppressed, restrained of expressing his own thought and beliefs and not being allowed to question their parents, religion, and people with authority never gets to explore past those confinements. And some stop tolerating it after awhile. I'm lucky that I was very curious growing up and that I found a way of being likable while still asking questions out of genuine curiosity and genuine perplexion. I never understood how someone could open a bible, say it was inspired by God himself, and then go off on a spiel based on various experiences, scenarios, examples, and never think to themselves: aren't situations situational? Isn't story-telling to teach morals and quoting people confined to not exploring past that? All my life when speaking and writing in English I'd overuse the words "maybe", "perhaps", "possibly", "probably", "it depends", and "it seems", "it appears as though", I never felt extremely opinionated about much of anything. I overthought everything, I swear I have the mind of an amateur philosopher and play devil's advocate with myself constantly. All of those persuasive essays in high school? Yep, I'd ramble because I don't have a clear opinion. I'm too perceptive and receptive that sometimes my own thoughts interrupt each other and thus I ramble. And thus this ended up as a reply to some stranger's comment.

@@majormarketing6552 This is not exactly airtight logic. You only have to read a few chapters into the book to see that it assigns a theological meaning to the assortment of languages. Namely to prevent the coordination of all mankind to the carrying out of shared evil purposes. The implication is that there is an intentional reversal of this trend during eras (and in regions) in which a particularly common language predominated or in which there was a high degree of mutual intelligibility between distinct speech communities. (1)The shared history of the Greeks and Persians set the stage for Macedon to homogenize the language of the East. Add to this (2) the cachet imputed to Greek culture and language by the Romans and (3) the Roman mastery of the Mediterranean world. These three factors mean that most western Romans of senatorial rank and almost all the population of the East were speaking Greek at the same time. Would you care to guess what language the New Testament is written in? Compare this to the situation in modern day New Guinea-just one island-there are countless languages and almost no efficient means of transmitting a message to the whole population.

+LordDarthHarry In my experience, the most fanatical anti-theists usually have some deeply rooted personal reasons for their actions, just as fundamental religious people do, in addition to any logical reasoning they sometimes claim to be solely responsible. Those I know have a deep distaste for religion because of past experiences, either extreme pressure and/or violence (physical or psychological) to behave in a specific way from parents or religious figures, or a hurtful experience that made them loose faith, like a death in the family. Of course, one can easily and should oppose religion when it is the cause of violence, oppression and injustice, especially on a wide scale, but this is no reason to attack the mere concept of religion when applied peacefully as a personal experience. But past abuse, grief etc can cause the mind to latch onto the smallest display of religious feelings as the root of all evil. Religious and anti-religious fanaticism are both rooted in the same kind of mental phenomenon. Where anti-theism can be a response to fundamentalist violence, religious fanaticism itself is often learned through violent rhetoric full of punishment and fear mongering ("don't sin or your soul will burn!"), so at their core, they are pretty much the same. I personally think that religion in itself is a good thing for some people to manage their mental health and promote a sense of community - as long as it stays out of lawmaking and doesn't cause people to become raving bigots and/or shove religion down all the throats as you said.

As a catholic, I was skeptical clicking this video. I was afraid you yourself would be one of those "preachers", you immediately distanced yourself from - luckily I was very wrong. This is possibly the best video of yours, that I have seen so far. I consider myself a warrior of the faith (cheesy I know), but in an informing sense, rather than an enforcing - combatting modern society's atheistic ignorance on religion on a nearly daily basis. But even if atheistic ignorance can be frustrating, it is completely understandable. Anyone brought up in a context, where religion is taught as fairy tales, would be insane to believe it. Just as most of us do not believe in Santa Claus. Religious ignorance however, can be much more dangerous. All religious people, I would say, of course are in some sense ignorant, as it is virtually impossible for one individual to comprehend the full scope of an entire religion - and as long as everyone accepts their own limitations, no harm is done. It is the people, claiming to know, without knowing, effectively spreading misinformation on their fellow followers behalf, that makes me and many others furious. With that unrequested rant in mind, I would like to address two points from the video, I pondered over, in the typically catholic rationalistic way *1. Unbelievers.* When isolated, that word defies logic. It's a half full, half empty situation. If you do not believe the glass is half full, you believe the glass is half empty - some creatives might come up with other interpretations, but I would call that an exploration of linguistics rather than logic. Translated into context, either you *believe* "God" exists, or you *believe* He does not exist - which means you believe. Religion and atheism is united until it reaches the limit of natural science, from which point some people think A and others think B. That is what believing means, thinking something you do not know for sure. *2. Quoting the Bible.* Unlike the Quran, which Muslims believe to be the literal word of God, the Bible has, in Christian context, always been considered written by men, inspired by God. So even if we theoretically could produce a "perfect translation", it would not change that no one could rightly claim to fully comprehend the Bible. Imagine sending a kindergartener to take notes at a university class on Quantum Mechanics - all of their notes would be "true", but they would be superficial at best. That's the pressure put on the people who wrote the Bible. TL;DR: Uhhh, basically what The Metatron said, with mildly irrelevant additions.

Bible translator here: Ooohhh, not bad, though I have a few nitpickings :P Most importantly is where you say that 'elohim "is plural" and shamayim "is dual". Here we get a bit in the weeds about linguistic philosophy since I'm of the conviction that function, not form, determines classification. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to distinguish between an imperfect and a jussive for most verbs. Or to use an analogy from Spanish, the word "problema" is masculine, despite its feminine -a ending, while "el agua" is feminine, despite its male definite article. Similar for 'elohim and shamayim, I don't think the the form-based argument for translating it with a plural holds up in most instances. Also, 'eth hashamayim we'eth ha'arets is a complete expression that could be translated (albeit somewhat freely) as "the cosmos" or "everything". So even if you don't ascribe, as I do, to the notion that bara means (or can mean) "create out of nothing", the sentence as a whole does carry that notion in my opinion.

Problema is masculine because it's from Greek, not Latin. Same with el dia. El agua is Latin and feminine because it's from Latin. El is used because saying la agua creates back to back A's. Words that begin with stressed a or ha is el in the singular, but the plural uses las not los, because the word is feminine. And notice las aguas is fine because there is an s between two letter A's. Other special feminine nouns: 1. El agua / las aguas (water) 2. El aula / las aulas (classroom) 3. El alma / las almas (soul) 4. El ave / las aves (bird) 5. El águila / las águilas (eagle) 6. I respect the opinion of Metatron, but I think that saying that "bara" doesn't mean "to create out of nothing" in the context of Genesis 1 is false beyond any reasonable doubt. If people have made up entire theologies and philosophies based around the notion of "God bringing Creation to being out on non-being" for thousands of years, hebrews included, I think that it's absolutely wrong to say that, based on a simplistic linguistic point of view, this interpretation could have been erroneously considered true for centuries by billions and billions of people and hundreds of thousands of scholars (even jewish scholars, native hebrew speakers) in history. The Bible must be read and interpreted not only with a good knowledge of the original language, but also with a good knowledge of ancient philosophy, history and theology; linguistics is not enough to make a good translation and you probably know better than me since you work as a translator :)

@@anactualbear5683 You don't have to tell me, I don't ever want to "out" someone (gosh I hate that term, but look at where things are now I guess?) as a Christian... but are you a Christian? I was reading John Mark up there, and I'm... sad. Confused, but mostly sad. My father is a Baptist preacher, pastor of two churches over the years till his body got the better of him (THAT SINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... yeah but really he does chew tobacco, come on Dad) and one of the things he always said (aside from preacher's daughters being the purest spawn of evil *laughs happily at herself*) was that the... old preachers from down in the hills and backward places that didn't even know the Great Depression happened because nothing had changed for them... they warned there'd be a day when the Bible itself was worshipped as an idol, and that mankind would proclaim Christ while judging each other based on their health and wealth, much like was done to Job. *looks around quietly* The King up there, "you are either dishonest or insane" is absolutely right. Before my illness destroyed my studies in literature degree and linguistics I noticed that everything comes down to having an accurate translation... In the Bible, God Himself "confused" the languages, and self (or Satan, I see them as synonyms) does the majority of the work there on out. In order for anyone to have a conversation there has to be dozens of agreements of intent and purpose made beforehand. I'm not trying to trick you, I'm trying to genuinely convey that I mean this/that, and we don't have the same representative element of "that" so we have to hedge it with more descriptors and etc.... You can "tell" someone the honest truth and still be misunderstood, and crucified for it in the public square. People who do not WANT to understand you will never no matter what you say or do. So a book from thousands of years ago written in multiple languages is the absolute inerrant mind of God? I'd only buy that if the readers are willing to subject themselves to prayers and introspection every day on end, because well this stuff is obviously important from a mortal perspective, etc.... but when you kick God out of the "worship centers" and don't try to talk to Him, you end up worshipping the record of His interaction with a particular group of mankind. And I personally think that's what the Bible is, and I'm a born again Christian. There's a lot going on :D Be safe good actual Bear, I wish you all the best in all things. And everyone who reads this thread. :) Be well

@@wren7195 I am a Christian, yes. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The point you mention about needing agreement to remove misunderstanding, that is part of why the LDS faith uses the Book of Mormon along side the books of the Bible. They teach the same principles of Christ, but by having two points of reference there is a lot less room for confusion when compared to one. So LDS members look to both books and reference both when trying to understand things clearly, and the benefits of that are shown in the LDS churches around the world. You can go into any of those churches and the doctrine should be familiar and the same because they are teaching from the same things. Otherwise, my experience in comparison has been that most other Christian faiths have quite a bit of similarities to each other but that they differ on their understanding of many of the same passages.

@AmitKumar-qz2us

Till 325 AD, not a single historian or writer wrote about Jesus Christ or any of his disciples . BEFORE THE FIRST COUNCIL OF NICEA IN 325 AD, NOBODY ON THIS PLANET EVER HEARD OF THE NAMES JESUS CHRIST OR CHRISTIANITY. JESUS/ BIBLE / CHRISTIANTY WAS COOKED UP IN 325 AD, BY JEWESS HELENA , WHO SAT ON THE POPE'S CHAIR.. "Vatican is Evil terrorist satanic organisation." If Satan does exist, then he thrives inside the Roman Catholic Church. The dead sea scrolls covering the period from Birth of Jesus to 68 AD , does NOT say one word about Jesus or his 12 Apostles. Hellenistic philosopher Philo Judaeus of Alexandria (20 BCE-50 AD/CE)-alive at the purported time of Jesus, and one of the wealthiest and best connected citizens of the Empire- makes no mention of Christ, Christians or Christianity in his voluminous writings. Nor do any of the hundreds of other historians and writers who flourished during the first THREE centuries of the common era. The DEAD SEA SCROLLS were all written by Pagan Essenes . None of them have been edited by later Christians, as is the case with some other Jewish literature. All the scrolls (except a treasure map known as the Copper Scroll) can be dated prior to A.D. 68 or 69, when the Qumran settlement was believed to have been destroyed by the Romans in the Jewish revolt. The oldest of the scrolls probably goes back to the middle of the third century B.C. The people of Qumran belonged to a Pagan religious group known as the Essenes. Pliny the Elder, who died during the volcanic destruction of Pompeii in the year 79 A.D., described a community of pagan Essenes living on the western shore of the Dead Sea, close to where Khirbet Qumran is situated. John the Baptist was an ascetic Essene . He was a vegan and was uncircumcised . Various literary sources like Josephus and Philo tell clearly that Essenes were ascetics. We also know, from literary testimony, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the archaeological remains of Qumran, that the Essenes practiced many water baptisms for ritual purification-similar to a dip in the Ganges or the river Pampa or at Thiirunelli. At Qumran, however, all members of the community were baptized with water for ritual purification. Josephus writes, "And as for their piety towards God, it is very extraordinary; for before sunrising they speak not a word about profane matters, but put up certain prayers which they have received from their forefathers, as if they made a supplication for its rising" (Wars, 2.8.5). This testimony accords well with what we know from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Prayer and humility was one thing that the Essenes . When they cooked up stories about Jesus they wrote that Jesus Christ ate the Last Supper in the Essene part of town. Jesus is not historical character, The Dead Sea Scrolls have produced increasing evidence to cement the fact that Jesus Christ never existed and the whole story was cooked up at the First Council of Nicea in 325 AD. The FAKE gospels were written after 325 AD after Jesus was cooked up at the first Council of Nicea.. Twelve apostles of Jesus never existed. Jesus Christ names 12 apostles to spread his gospel, and the early Christian church owes its rapid rise to their missionary zeal. Yet, for most of the Twelve, there's scant evidence of their existence outside of the New Testament. The concept of using statistics to prove that 'God authored the Bible' is bullshit. Why was the library of Alexandria burnt ? The gospel of Thomas was not written by Jesus' disciple Thomas. Englishman Godfrey Higgins studied Greek, Latin and law at Cambridge . His two-volume, 867-page book Anacalypsis: An Enquiry into the Origins of Languages, Nations, and Religions, was published posthumously in 1836.

You make some good points, but there a a few factual corrections. 1. The bible is written in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) and even more dialects. This isn't really a correction of what you said, but you made it seem like knowing Hebrew grants a person access to the entire bible. 2. The bible was not just written 3,000 years ago but starting three thousand years ago up until the end of the first century. Also, many of the stories in the Old Testament are from an oral tradition possibly even older. To be clear, I don't disagree with the points you make about the language and problems with translations. This is why, for Christians, it is important to understand the larger context of each verse and how they interact with each other. So, I agree that it's a problem when people copy and paste verses to prove a point, because, as you said, they usually don't understand the full meaning of what they are quoting. But, at the same time, a lot of Christians know their stuff, so it's not fair just to dismiss all that we say.

Thank you for specifying I didn't say it well so this is definitely a good comment to add to what I have said :) On the note of dismissing all christians say I definitely don't, I just disagree with the "I'm right you are wrong because bible" argument. A christian who knows his stuff also understands that this would not be the way the bible is supposed to be used. the bible is a personal inner journey you can share with others if you want, not a "weapon" to impose yourself on others with arrogance as many people unfortunately do.

Metatron - I really appreciate your approach on this. The respect that you show and your linguistic approach are great. I personally don't speak Hebrew but I have however read and studied every word of the Bible in English . I've read the King James and the New World Translation. As someone who appreciates and delves into history, other aspects that are extremely important when reading scripture are voice, context, and time. Voice in that all of the books composing the Bible were not written by one person. The books were written by dozens of different men. Context in that some scripture is written as history, some as parable, some as prophecy, poetry ext. Also we have to take into account what person or group of people each book or passage is addressed to at the time of writing. This leads into time. Time as in date. The books are supposedly written between the 15th century BCE, with the oldest books of the Torah, and the 1st century CE with the New Testament. Anyone reading and or claiming to understand the Bible needs to take into account all of these factors along with the original language if they want to attain a more true understanding of the meaning. I try to take these things into account in my reading. But my reading is just my interpretation and I don't try to push it on anyone.
