Under the human rights act 1998, people have the right to believe and practise whatever they want, provided it is sincere and it doesn't hurt anyone. As an Atheist. I am sick to the back teeth of having to compromise with people who follow a religion. If you don't like the way things are done in the United Kingdom. Then find a country that embraces your religion. We all know they won't cause life is too cushier here with the benefits system, NHS & stability here.

Something fundamental is at stake. Are schools there for the education of children or there to meet the demands of the various religious needs of individuals? State schools are, by definition, secular and if parents want their children educated along faith lines then why send their children to state schools and not faith schools. This is nothing more than attempts to subsume state education by religious demands and the state has to kowtow to the demands of some ethnic or fanatic group.

and just how much Christian teaching or prayer is allowed on Muslim schools then ?

Ok Sir Karl Popper said that if everyone is tolerant of every idea , then intolerance to ideas will emerge . It's plain to see here that our tolerance of other people's ideas, coming into our country has opened the door for them to show their intolerance of us in our own country. If these people cannot tolerate us in our own country , then they should be forced to leave this beautiful country . Enough of Islamic intolerance in our country

Yes! On the one hand you have head teachers committing suicide due to negative Ofsted reports, on the other, a head teacher is in the high court because of the successful method she uses to achieve excellent results...Its a mad world! But I hope Ofsted are supporting her. If she loses this case, then this decision will have wider implications....

If it's not a faith school then why should any demands from any faith be met? It's a place of (secular) education, not there to facilitate individual faith.

This is case the school must be win to keep the school from a complete disaster. If the court becomes unfortunate by giving a verdict in favour of muslim pupil, it will be a free for all.....Christians, Jewish & Hindu pupils will be accorded the same right to pray in school thereby disrupting learning and making the school a battleground for religion superiority.

Further comment to `a wonderful headmistress` - I left England in 1956, after 2 years of National Service in R.A.F. - off to Australia as a 10 Pound migrant and leaving my home of Tyneside. Father a worker in the shipyard with his `cor-blimey boots`. Now living in a small town in coastal Japan, still teaching occasional classes and thoroughly enjoying life. Curiously - this Japan conjures up old memories of England - locally I see - polite, uniformed school children, a sense of community and respect. Care of the elders. A homogenous society ( me the only European around). I can`t recognize the England I see reported on various news channels - the horrendous events in Rochdale in NW. England. This wonderful brave headmistress, Katherine, must be fully supported - where are the politicians? Jack in Japan

I, an atheist, was forced to go to a Catholic school and would have loved to have brought a case to high court disputing their right to force me to pray. I wonder if this channel would have supported me in doing that. If not, then it's a bit concerning given their stance on this case.
@lynncw920211 ай бұрын
It's strange that you were forced to pray. Usually in Catholic schools, the protestants and Jews and Muslims if they go there, were told in the beginning that they can join in IF THEY WANT TO, but this is what is done in a Catholic school so it's up to you to send your children there or not.
@marcus.H11 ай бұрын
My understanding of the human rights act 1998 is that no one can be forced to go against their religious beliefs by a government worker. I guess the question of harm would come up. Did it harm you to pray to a god you didn't believe in. Certainly if a religious person was forced to violate their own conscience then there is harm. But what about the atheist? Did it have a negative effect?

As a Canadian this is wild. There are multi-faith spaces everyone that can be used by any faith, and some people even pray in school hallways. A child praying in a hallway for 10 mins during recess seems like such a non-issue instead of having them do it in mud.
