We've had patients stay in the ER for days because we simply have nowhere for them to go. We can't move them to our psych unit, because it's also full with people waiting for placement in longer-term care. Often the only placement we find for them is in another city (or even another state), hundreds of miles from their home and any family they may have. I live in a medium-sized city. We have 4 beds in the ED, and 8 beds for involuntary holds (e.g. 5150s). You don't want to know how often we have no option but to kick someone back onto the street - we can't hold them against their will (and no one wants to sit in limbo in the ED for days), and there's nowhere else for them to go. The number of psychiatric/behavioral health facilities has been reduced by over 80% from what it was in the 70s, and the US population has nearby doubled. I'm not saying the old asylums are the solution; they were riddled with abuse and mistreatment, and it was too easy to lock up an irritating or inconvenient family member for life... But what we have today isn't a solution either.

I NEED things to be in their spot, BUT I get overwhelmed when I can't keep up on things, then my depression and anxiety make me spiral worse and I shut down. MY POINT IS THAT YOU CAN HAVE OCD AND NOT TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. I don't hardly leave my home, in the last 3 years I've only left a total of 7 times. I also have severe insomnia but because of my over 20 drug allergies they can't give me anything. IT'S A NEVER ENDING CYCLE THAT I'M STRUGGLING TO OVERCOME. I feel for this woman if she is suffering the same way.

I'm with you on that, this kind of howler grinds my gears. Apparently though, it is an adjective when I looked online. Well, I've never heard anyone use it, and I won't be using it either. Here's the definition and it's a prime piece of gobbledygook: 'As adjectives the difference between irresponsive and unresponsive is that irresponsive is that does not respond to stimuli while unresponsive is not responsive; unreactive.' Go figure that!🤔 Amusingly, that definition is ungrammatical. They can count me out. 😆

God Bless you. 🤍 There's so many reasons why mental health is deteriorating in the United States. Taking God out of everything is the main thing. But also the food system is so corrupt & toxic now, all the processed chemicals, seed oils, pesticides, GMO's, sugar they allowed in almost everything.
