The struggle with housing can be real when you have a Ph.D. stipend and you are committed to the program for a good 4-6 years. I am a direct Ph.D. student @Virginia Tech and prices in our college town have been on a rise due to an increase in enrollment and subsequent shortage. However, the grad student council here was pretty proactive in making the situation known to the concerned authorities and demanding a stipend increase. A lot of research was involved in the process though! For example, a meticulously designed grad monthly budget survey that almost the entire grad community filled. The university has increased the stipends by 5% which is consistent with the average rent increase at this point....if it goes beyond that point we will be pushing again.

End of the day I opened voice recording app in my phone, recorded myself taking about any interesting things I did that day without thinking of making mistakes while talking. Kind of like maintaining a audio journal instead of writing. Next day or after few days later when I listened my recording I can easily found out my mistakes if I made any and also tracked speaking progress. That was my strategy.

Hi, I wanted to pursue higher education and had not been able to, due to family responsibilities/not having enough funding. I have scored 70% in BE Instrumentation and have a decade experience in data engineering field. I am completing PG executive program in data science and business analytics. I have required passion, enough frustration and want to study further and be able to contribute back to society with atleast scientific findings. Could you please make series for someone with average GPA and scholarship available or how to get universities to sponser for an average student so that eventually they can become scholar like you. I haven't got opportunities to work on research projects related to computer science yet. Could you please guide us how to look out for such opportunities for working professional.

You've Already Earned a PhD and got US Green Card and Citizenship. But in some cases I've seen people working on their PhD for 7-8 years and even more and their social life is zero. I've also known some people not getting married and loneliness is their only partner and they blame PhD for this. I just wanna spread a message that PhD is not an easy thing. You'll have to give up certain aspects of life. especially if you are in your 20s please take a while to decide.

I’m an investor and startup ceo and I can tell you that there is nothing better other than getting hands dirty on the job . Sitting in lab won’t get you anywhere . converting directly from percentage to GPA doesn't give accurate results. You have to do for each subject. For example, lets say you got 80/100 in exam is 'B' grade according to grading system and B is '3' GPA out of 4.
